Why I believe summer camp is one of the best sources of emotional growth, learning, fun and adventure available to a young person during the summer vacation months. Our summer camp program offers a safe place to learn social, physical, and spiritual skills in a nurturing environment. These enriching experiences can provide your child with an anchor of support in a sea of choices and can lead to a lifetime of growth and spiritual discovery. One child summed it up very well when she said, “Camp is like a thousand recesses!”

TO BE THEMSELVESAll are accepted for who they are, regardless of their background. Artificial barriers disappear as everyone joins together in small groups, enjoying the same activities together, and learning to accept each other’s differences. Your child can shine at camp in so many ways and do that in an encouraging environment!

TO INCREASE SELF-ESTEEM AND INDEPENDENCETrying new things, discovering more of God’s love, and being encouraged brings aboutself-confidence. Living in a nurturing and challenging environment and being away from parents gives kids a chance to learn respect for others, teamwork, kindness, and honesty in a new setting, AND they have fun while they learn!

After over 75 years in the ministry of Christian camping, we have developed an amazing variety of programs from which to choose. I invite you to become part of the Jumonville family on this special mountaintop. Come and experience the difference at Jumonville!

Take a look, and you’ll find that camp’s not just for kids anymore. Join us in 2018!

Camp? BY LARRY BEATTY, JUMONVILLE PRESIDENT

THE VALUE OF CAMPHere are the results of our camper survey from the last several year’s summer camp events:

100% of our campers had an awesome time at camp.

98% of our campers felt like they learned more about God.

95% of our campers tried something new.98% of them made a new friend.

97% of our campers feel good about themselves.

95% of our campers enjoyed the worship time.

98% of our campers were comfortable with their cabin group and counselors.

TO BE PART OF A UNIQUE COMMUNITYIt is a special community where children and youth can be silly, have loads of fun, make new friends, and laugh often. It is a place where the deans and counselors are also able to get to know your child and their individual needs. At camp your child is immersed in a Christian “incubator” where they can ask questions, explore new ideas, and practice spiritual disciplines. Devotions and small group discussions are an integral part of this lively growth experience.

SUMMER CAMP An extensive program of Christian adventure, sports, arts and samplers is offered each summer, and retreat space is available year-round. Co-ed, resident camps are usually one week sessions, with some shorter options for younger campers, with plenty of outdoor recreation, campfires, and inspirational opportunities.

HISTORY Jumonville Glen was the site of George Washington’s first battle, and a museum of artifacts has been preserved from the French and Indian War that followed. In addition, Pennsylvania operated a Soldiers Orphan School on the property after the Civil War. The beautiful campus, 19th century stone buildings, and flagstone walkways reflect the rich past of this mountaintop, and yet still offer exceptional lodging, comfort and modern conveniences.

JUMONVILLE, a premier Christian camp and retreat center, is a unique and special place with much to offer. It is best known for its landmark, a huge, white, steel cross that stands 60’ high on the mountaintop. Hiking up to Dunbar’s Knob to see the cross and the breathtaking view is an inspiring highlight for almost everyone who visits.

ADVENTURE Our numerous adventure facilities include several Challenge/Ropes Courses, King Swing, and the indoor Adventure Center. All of these facilities serve our most popular programs for rock climbing, individual initiatives, and teambuilding with spiritual applications. Our Adventure Program is an outstanding tool for building teamwork, self-confidence and personal growth at many levels. Jumonville has been a leader in adventure programming and training for well over 40 years.

FAITH Jumonville was established in 1941 and every summer since then, lives are changed as the Gospel is shared in cabin devotions, on the sports fields, or in the dining hall. Spiritual applications are integrated into adventure activities for maximum insight, & the Wednesday night all-camp worship services are interactive & fun.

AMENITIES Youth and children stay in beautiful cabins and lodges with a 4:1 camper to counselor ratio. Adults or family camps stay in semi private or group lodges with private baths. Guests enjoy delicious family style meals, sports and recreation, swimming, rafting, rock climbing, and caving, as well as on-site climbing walls, and zip line.

especially for new campers to visit the campus on Sunday, May 20th. Over 50 different summer camp events are offered each summer. This Open House is designed for you to come and see for yourself what Jumonville and it’s many programs have to offer. Free tours and camp activities will help your child become familiar with a day at camp and the types of camp that may interest him/her. A minimum deposit of $50 is required for each summer camp registration.

Please make reservations for the day by May 11th to guarantee dinner reservations.

Check out www.jumonville.org/event/open-house

NOT YOUR TYPICAL CAMP! That is a common statement heard by our guests when they arrive on Jumonville campus for the first time. Often folks will say, “This looks more like a college campus!” The beautiful lawns, woodlands, and hiking trails give spaces to reflect in peaceful and natural surroundings. The historic stone buildings offer period character with modern conveniences. In addition to the French & Indian War history of the site, Jumonville was a PA Soldier’s Orphan School following the Civil War. The elegant Inn, beautiful Washington Lodge, and a dozen warm, cozy cabins are available in a variety of configurations. The sports fields, disc golf courses, and multiple ropes/challenge courses offer lots of excitement and adventure. #4

What our past campers had to say:The food was excellent. The activities and songs were wonderful. I loved the renovations of Washington Lodge.

I’m hoping we can go again next year. I’ve even told other grandmas to join us.

My favorite part was spending time from 1-4 with both granddaughters and learning camp songs together.

It brought back good memories and loved singing the songs with both girls in the weeks that followed. This camp was very organized!

Emily and Jude were the best! They certainly have the passion for this camp. Love children and are wonderful examples of Christian parents!

OVERVIEW Mountain beauty, good food, diverse recreational facilities and rich fellowship are all included in Family Week. More than all this, is the challenge to one’s heart and soul to grow in a program of study and worship together. When you come to Family Week, you have an opportunity to bond as a family, and grow in understanding God’s love for you, and your love for one another.

Family Week ...a Christian Family VacationSAT, JULY 21ST – SAT, JULY 28TH

76th Annual

The purpose of Family Week is to provide a family vacation experience centered on Christian teachings and interaction with other families. It is designed to strengthen your relationships with your family and deepen your relationship with God.

CAMP ACTIVITIESOur program for the week is flexible and

contains regular times for teaching and worship opportunities daily, beginning with the Morning

Watch period and ending with evening cabin or room devotions. In addition to daily classes for

all ages and Bible study, there are multiple sports competitions, swimming, ropes course activities,

singing, square dancing, campfires, s’mores, crafts, nature walks, and even a rest period! You’ll need it after

all the activities available each day. All are encouraged to participate and join in the fun. An Adirondack book club

with great discussions is also being held. This year’s book will be Post Traumatic Church Syndrome by Reba Riley.

Every year Family Week plans a Thursday evening carnival night. Come enjoy this great evening of multi-generational family fun, games, and optional banana splits and sundaes. There is also planned entertainment every night. The inspirational highlight of the week is the Friday night service at the Cross, and Saturday morning Communion in the woods at Green Cathedral. Be prepared to go home with memories of fun, faith and new friends that will last a lifetime.

Money Matters

We are indebted to local United Methodists for giving apportionment dollars through their churches to the Annual Conference. These funds help pay the summer cabin counselors. Also, many individuals make second-mile gifts to the camp through the Advance Specials. These gifts have made it possible to reduce the price of the counselor in training event, and increase training for volunteers. THANK YOU!

A NOTE ABOUT CAMP COSTS

The camp fees individuals, families and churches pay help provide for daily room and board for campers and volunteer staff. The fees also help with program material and equipment costs. For some events, transportation must be provided, as well as fees paid to adventure, sports & other contractors.

Except for a limited number of campsite staff and students on Summer Program Staff, our events are generously staffed by an army of Christian volunteers. These volunteers - deans, counselors and special program resource people - make our summer program possible. Our prices are at or below the average for similar camp programs, and we do everything possible to keep costs down.

JUMONVILLE KIDZ2KAMP CAMPERSHIP PROGRAM

A limited number of camperships are available through Jumonville’s Kidz2Kamp Program. These camperships are to help campers who could not otherwise afford to go to camp. Campership requests should be made early, as funds are limited and will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis.

Download a pdf copy of our Financial Aid brochure or complete an online form for Financial Aid at jumonville.org/financial-aid/

MILITARY DEPENDENTS CAMPERSHIP PROGRAM

If you are a dependent of a current service person who is in regular or reserve status. There is additional funding available for you to come to camp. Please go to the Jumonville website at jumonville.org/financial-aid/ to apply for this financial aid.

FOSTER CHILD CAMPERSHIPFoster children have a special place here at Jumonville. There is additional aid for them to come to camp. Simply go to the Jumonville website at jumonville.org/financial-aid/ to apply.

CHURCH CAMPERSHIPSIf you are a member of a church, you should check with your own church to see if they have any money available to help you to attend a summer camp event at Jumonville. Many churches specifically raise money for children, youth, and families to attend camp.

FAMILY CAMPERSHIPS This campership is available for Jumonville Summer Camp program only. If the event number on the chart on pages 5-6 is listed as N/A then that program does not qualify. We will provide $100 campership (shorter events pro-rated) available for families sending more than one child to camp on a first-come, first-served basis. (Family Discounts are already included in the prices of C.A.T. Camp and Mommy, Daddy & Me events.) The camperships are available to the second or more campers, who are siblings of the same household. Full-week campers will count as first camper. Application for the family campership can be made online at:

jumonville.org/financial-aid/.

BRING A FRIEND PROGRAMIf you bring a friend (who has never been to Jumonville as a camper), to a JSC camp, you will receive a $5 gift card for the snack shop to be used during your week of camp. You and your friend must register as campers to qualify.

Download the printable form from: jumonville.org/bring-a-friend/ or complete an online form. You may also call the Jumonville office at 800-463-7688 and we’ll mail or fax you one. Completed forms must be sent at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the first event that anyone in your group is scheduled to attend.

WHO CAN GO TO CAMP? Camp is for everyone who wants to go! All United Methodist camping events are open to all persons without regard to race, religious affiliation or gender. Each event has a limited size because of space. We welcome campers from all churches or with no church affiliation. Our purpose is to teach, preach, and live the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

SPECIAL NEEDS Many children and adults with special needs can be accommodated in the Jumonville summer camping program. Some weeks are specifically geared for campers with mental or physical limitations, and others with such conditions as ADHD can join in with others their age. However, each situation must be evaluated individually and must be discussed with Rebekah Greenawalt at (724) 439-4912 or email [email protected]. We have also made significant efforts to accommodate special dietary requests. Please contact the office for specific information.
