1. Introduction1.1. TaekwondoCanada,throughitsmembershipinWorldTaekwondowillbeeligible

to select athletes for the 2018 Pan Am Para Taekwondo Championships (2018PAPTC).

1.2. Thisdocument:

1.2.1. setsouttheprocessandrequirementforidentifyingathletesandinvitingthoseselectedtobeontheCanada2018PanAmParaTaekwondoTeamtoparticipateatthe2018PAPTC,orinvitedtobeanalternate.

1.2.2. will apply to any other international para taekwondo competitions,additionalcompetitionswillbeidentifiedontheTCwebpage.

1.3. 2018PanAmParaTaekwondoChampionships (2018PAPTC)at the timeof this

publicationistobeannouncedbythePanAmTaekwondoUnion(PATU).

1.4. Selection for the 2018 Pan Am Para Taekwondo Championships does notautomaticallyprovidefinancialfundingforeventparticipation.

1.5. Final decisionson the selectionof athletes toparticipateon the SeniorNational

TeamshallbemadebytheExecutiveDirectorbasedonrecommendationsbytheHighPerformanceDirector(HPDirector)ordesignate.

1.6. TaekwondoCanada’sobjectiveistoidentifytheCanadianathletestobenamedtothe2018PanAmParaTaekwondoChampionshipsTeam.

2. Eligibilityrequirements2.1. Athletesmustbeage16andover.

2.1.1. Theagelimitsforeachdivisionisbasedontheyear,notonthedate,whenthe Championships are held. For example, in the Junior Division,contestants shall be between 15 and 17 years old. In this regard, if theChampionships are held on November 15, 2018, contestants bornbetween1January2001and31December2003areeligibletoparticipateinthisdivision.

2.2. Athletes must be a Canadian Citizen at the time of 2018 Canadian NationalChampionshipsregistration.

2.3. AthletesmustberegisteredmembersingoodstandingofTaekwondoCanada.

2.4. AthletesmustbeKukkiwonPoomorDancertificateholders.

2.5. AthletesmustholdavalidWorldTaekwondoGlobalAthleteLicense.

2.6. Athletesmust currently be eligible to represent Canada atmajor internationaleventsunder theeligibility requirementsofWorldTaekwondo,andTaekwondoCanada.

2.7. AthletesmustgothroughWorldTaekwondoclassificationandbeassignedSportClass and Sport Class Status before competing at the 2018 Pan Am ParaTaekwondoChampionships.

2.8. AthletesmustadheretotheWorldAnti-DopingCode.

2.9. To be named to the 2018 Pan Am Para Taekwondo Championships Team,athletesmustsignanAthleteAgreementasrequiredbyTaekwondoCanada.

2.10. This protocol is subject to change if there are changes initiated by WorldTaekwondo(WT)orPanAmericanTaekwondoUnion(PATU).

4. 2018 Pan Am Para Taekwondo Championships Team NationalSelectionEvent

4.1. ACanadianselectionforthe2018PanAmParaTaekwondoChampionshipsTeamwilloccurwithin the2018CanadianNationalChampionships, fromFebruary15to18,2018.

5. SelectionandInvitation5.1. The 1st place winners will be given priority to enter in the 2018 Pan Am Para

Championships.

5.1.1. Shouldthereisnoentrylimitation,theathleteswhoparticipateatthe2018PanAmParaTaekwondoTeamselectioneventwillbenominatedtothePanAmParaTaekwondoChampionshipsTeam.

5.2. The final team selection will be based on World Taekwondo classificationconfirmation.

6. GeneralRequirementstoMaintainInvitationtoTeam6.1. Maintainongoingrequirementstobeeligibleforandtomaintaintheinvitation;

6.2. SigntheAthleteAgreementasrequiredbyTaekwondoCanadatocompeteatthe2018PanAmParaTaekwondoChampionships;

6.3. SubmitrequiredmedicalexaminationreportswhenrequestedbytheHPDirectorordesignate.Additionally,anemergencyreportistobefiledwhennecessary.

6.4. Nominated athletes are expected to provide a plan of preparation to becompetition ready for the approved events, 2018 Pan Am Para TaekwondoChampionships and, upon request, to prove appropriate competitive readinessfortheseeventsthroughthesubmissionofatrainingdiary.

6.4.1. ATrainingandCompetitionPlanmayberequired,andifrequireditmustincludethefollowing:

6.4.1.1. Theathlete’strainingschedule,plansandtargets

6.4.1.2. Injury prevention and medical intervention strategies, ifapplicable.

6.4.2. Athletesmustfile:6.4.2.1. Amedicalfitnessreportwhenrequested;

6.4.2.2. A Medical or Emergency Incident report if and when theathlete suffers an injury, illness, or disability that may affectmeeting training targets, ongoing performance and training, orprevent the athlete from competing in the applicationcompetitions.

6.5. LossofInvitation

6.5.1. An Invitation to an athlete may be withdrawn at any time, even afternotification, acceptance, or signing of an Athlete’s Agreement, if, in theopinionoftheExecutiveDirector,theathletehasfailedto:

6.5.1.1. fulfilleligibilitytobeselectedandbeinvited;or

6.5.1.2. fulfillongoingobligationsoftheathleteunderthispolicy.

6.6. Following team nomination to the TC, any such removals are subject to theapproval of the Executive Director based on the recommendations of the HPDirectorordesignate.

7. Exceptionalcircumstances7.1. An athlete who does not meet the selection process set out above may be

considered for selection if she or he meets the conditions of the ExceptionalCircumstancesprovisions.

7.2. Shouldaninjuryorunforeseencircumstancepreventanathletefromcompetingintherequiredevents,theathletemustnotifyTaekwondoCanada,withinin10days inwriting, before the eventwith a thorough explanation. The decision tonominatetheathletetothe2018PanAmParaTaekwondoChampionshipsTeamwill be made at the sole discretion of the Executive Director based onrecommendationsbytheHPDirectorordesignate,takingintoconsiderationtheaccumulated results during the selection period, the overall potential of theathlete,andthewrittenexplanationoftheathlete’shealthstatus,recovery,andtrainingplan.

7.3. Intheeventofaninjuredathlete,ahealthcarepractitionerlicensedinCanadacanmakethemedicalrecommendation.Shouldtherebeadifferenceofopinionamongsthealthcareproviders,theopinionofTaekwondoCanada’sdesignatedmedicalshallbeconsideredasthesoleauthoritative.

7.4. Substitutions after 2018 Pan Am Para Taekwondo Championships RegistrationEntrydeadlinearesubjecttothesolediscretionoftheExecutiveDirectorbasedontherecommendationoftheHPDirectorordesignate.

8. ApprovalandAppealProcess8.1. Finaldecisionsontheselectionandnominationofathletestoparticipateonthe

2018 Pan Am Para Taekwondo Championships Team shall be made by theExecutiveDirectorordesignatebasedonrecommendationsbytheHPdirectorordesignate.

8.2. IssuesnototherwiseaddressedbythisSelectionProtocolshallberesolvedbytheExecutiveDirector or designate based on recommendations by the TaekwondoCanadaHPdirectorordesignate.

8.3. Any decision relating to this protocol may be appealed by an athlete who ismaterially affected by that decision and who is a registered participant ofTaekwondoCanadaingoodstanding.AppealsmustbeconductedinaccordancewiththeTaekwondoCanadaappealspolicy.

8.4. Ifbothpartiesare inagreement, theTaekwondoCanadaAppealsPolicycanbebypassedandthemattercanbebrought immediatelybefore theSportDisputeResolutionCentreofCanada(SDRCC)whowillthenmanagetheappealsprocess.
