Welcome to the Hesston Recreation 2018 fall catalog. Sliding and splashing the way through the summer has brought
us to another fall season at Hesston Recreation. The first season of the new pool is nearly in the books.
The fields and gyms await as volleyball, soccer and flag football get under way. There are adventures to our favorite destinations and new ones, too!
The catalog is full of amazing opportunities provided by Hesston Recreation and the community for all ages and interests. Please take a moment to take in all the Hesston community offers.
Hesston Recreation is committed to providing the experiences of Fun, Fellowship and Fitness in all our activities and opportunity for everyone.

ENROLLMENT INFORMATION
For information and to register for Hesston
Recreation sports & activities go to
www.hrce.org. You also may
contact us at [email protected]
or 620-327-2989. Enrollment
information for many HRCE
sports and classes is sent
through Hesston schools. Our
classes and activities are subject
to cancellation due to a minimum enrollment
requirement. Payment is required in advance
for all classes. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED
EVEN IF THERE IS NO CLASS FEE. Those
interested in a scholarship should enroll at
our office at 303 Park Road, located at the
Hesston High School entrance by the pool.
Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Mondays-Thursdays and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30
Fridays. We are open during the noon hour on
most days. Our office is closed holidays.
ALL AGES WELCOME
Everyone is invited to participate in HRCE
programs and activities: students,
parents, working and retired
people. Enrollment priority is given
to USD 460 patrons. Friends from
outside the school district are
welcome to enroll on a space-
available basis.
SHARE YOUR TALENTS
If you are interested in sharing a skill or
talent with others, give us a call.
We always are looking for new
activities, and we need instructors
for them. The pay is competitive,
and it is a great way to meet and
help people. Call us for more
information about how you can be
a part of sharing your talent with others.
SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
Hesston Recreation is pleased to offer
scholarship opportunities based on the
following policy.
Those on free or reduced-price
lunches through USD 460 are
eligible for a 50 percent
scholarship. Those on KanCare
Insurance will receive a 100
percent scholarship. Applications
will be accepted for out-of-district
scholarships. Contact the HRCE office for
applications.
There is a $75-per-child limit per fiscal year.
Our fiscal years run July 1 through June 30 of
the following year.
No scholarships will be offered on pool
passes.
SENIOR CITIZEN PASS
This pass is available to those age
65 or retired, who reside in the
boundaries of Hesston USD
460.The pass provides free
admission to all Hesston USD 460
home athletic competitions with the
exception of tournaments and post-season
play. Reserved seating involves an additional
charge. It also provides discounted admission
for other selected activities with an admission
charge. Questions regarding the use of this
pass should be directed to the district office
at 620-327-4931.

HRCE WALK LOGS
Believe it or not, a person who weighs 150
pounds will burn off 600 calories per hour while
playing basketball, 690 bicycling, 350 playing golf,
250 while shopping and 350
during one hour of fitness
walking. Why not begin your own
fitness walking program?
Whether you walk a few
blocks or a few miles, you can use
our logbook that will give you
maps and measures of routes through town and a
chart so you can record your mileage. You can pick
up a copy of the walk log at the HRCE office.
LATE REGISTRATION POLICY
Any registration turned in after the
registration deadline for each sport/
activity will be assessed a $10 late
fee. We do not want to exclude
anyone from our programs, but
children and parents must take
responsibility for following the
deadlines set. The only exceptions will be for
families just moving to Hesston or if a squad is not
yet full.

THE GOAL OF YOUTH SPORTS
Youth sports programs are designed for our
youth. They help teach fundamentals
and rules of the sport, and our youth
learn the value of team play and the
social interaction team sports
provide. Please do your best to keep
the focus on learning and fun for
your child.

FAQs & ANSWERS
1. How do we sign up for kids' sports
programs? Each sports program will have
information sent home from school with children. To
register go to www.hrce.org. Those
seeking a scholarship must register in
the HRCE office, 303 Park Road.
2. Do we need to pre-enroll for
programs with no fee or charge to
participate? Yes, we ask that you pre-
enroll for any and all programs. We need to know
numbers for supplies and for the class leaders'
planning.
3. We home-school our children. Can we be
notified of program sign-up times? Yes. Most
information is in the catalog at www.hrce.org. To

NOON-HOUR BASKETBALL FOR MEN
Join the fun, fellowship
and exercise of noon-hour
basketball from 11:45 a.m.
to 1 p.m. on Mondays,
Wednesdays and Fridays in
the Hesston High School
main gym. Please use the
north parking lot and enter
through the door by the
HRCE office. A locker room will be available
for changing and showers, but you’ll need
to bring your own towel.

Here’s a family contest in which the winning family in each of three
age groups wins a turkey for the holidays!
One parent and a competing child will sign up in that child’s age
group.
Each will shoot 10 free throws, and the average of those scores will
be their overall score. The highest percentage wins a turkey! One turkey
per family.
We ask that all families pre-register for this event with the HRCE office
to help us with planning for it.

School's Out Today program
Tanganyika Wildlife Park trip
set for Sept. 17 for 2nd-6th
Join us in visiting Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Goddard
on a day when school is out! Experience the interaction
with animals such as sloths, penguins, cheetahs and
more! Have a chance to meet and greet animals and their
handlers for an adventure with wildlife like nothing else!
Kids will have an opportunity for the following animal
encounters:
One giraffe feeding
One lorikeet feeding
One lemur feeding
WHEN: Monday, Sept. 17
GRADES: 2nd-6th grades
TIMES: The bus will begin loading at 9:15 a.m. in the northeast
Hesston High School/HRCE parking lot by the old swimming pool.
The bus will leave at 9:30 a.m. We’ll return about 1 p.m.
COST: $20 includes zoo entrance and transportation. We will
need chaperones to help with these activities. If you sign up to be
a chaperone, your fee will be waived. Each program will require a
different number of chaperones, so we may not be able to use all parents
who volunteer.
DEADLINE: Registrations are due by Wednesday, Sept. 5.
PLEASE NOTE: Each child/person should bring a sack lunch and a
drink. We’ll eat lunch at the park. A cooler will be provided for the drinks.

Kansas Maze/Playland trip is Oct. 12 for 2nd-6th
Enjoy a field trip to the Kansas Maze at Gaeddert Farms near Buhler. The first
challenge of the day will be the corn maze, followed by activities in the aMAZEing
Playland. Lunch of a hamburger, drink and chips will be served at 11:30 a.m. After
lunch, we’ll embark on a hayrack ride to the pumpkin patch where each participant
can search for the perfect pumpkin to take home. See www.kansasmaze.com for

WHEN: Friday, Oct. 12
GRADES: 2nd-6th
TIMES: We will begin loading the bus at 9:15 a.m. in the Hesston Recreation

School's Out Today program
Get Air trampoline park jumps into action Oct. 29 for 2nd-6th
Enjoy a fun day at Get Air Trampoline Park in
Wichita. Get Air offers a fun indoor experience
for all ages with foam pits, basketball goals and
challenging trampoline courses. Socks will be

TIMES: The bus will begin loading at 7:45 a.m. in the Hesston
High School/HRCE parking lot by the old pool and leave at 8 a.m.

NOTE: This trip will require parents to sign a waiver of liability
from Get Air. More information about the waiver will be given to
parents who sign up their children.

The gym will NOT be open
on Saturdays Nov. 24 and Dec.
22 & 29.
The elementary gym is for
kindergarten through fourth
graders, and the middle school
gym is for fifth
through eighth grad-
ers.
All gyms are super-
vised, and parents
are welcome at either
gym.
Participants should
carry in clean court
shoes for use in the
gyms. The gyms are open only
for use by USD 460 patrons
and students.
GYMS OPEN SATURDAYS FOR WINTER FUN
HESSTON KIDS WRESTLING OFFERED
The Hesston Kids Wrestling Program will be starting the 2018-2019 at the end of November for boys and girls in kindergarten - 8th grade.
This is an excellent opportunity for your wrestler to learn basic techniques, sportsmanship, conditioning and have the opportunity to attend tournaments.
We will have a parent/sign up meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Hesston High School wrestling room, with tournament dates and an estimated start date for practice to be handed out.
Practices are normally Monday, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 6-7:30 with the exceptions of school functions and holidays.
We are actively looking for volunteers to help continue this opportunity for the kids. The more help with practices and a larger coaching staff, the more time we will have to devote to skill development.

outdoor dropbox to make it easier to
drop off registration forms and other

WINTER SPORT:
Girls & boys basketball for 3rd-6th grades
Boys & girls play on separate teams, as do the different
grades. Games will be played on Saturdays in Hesston & out of
town in December & January beginning Dec. 1. GRADES: 3rd-6th
JERSEYS: Jerseys need to be returned to your coach after the
season.

WINTER SPORT:
Indoor soccer for 1st-6th graders
Hesston Recreation will offer indoor soccer for
three divisions this winter. First- and 2nd-graders will
be in the junior division; 3rd- & 4th-graders will be in the interme-
diate division; and 5th- & 6th-graders will be in the senior division.
Teams will be coed .
Games will be played on Saturdays starting in February and
ending in mid-March. Evening games will be scheduled as need-
ed, based on number of teams. Your child will play on all the
Saturdays and possibly a weekday evening, based on division.

players. Hesston Recreation is pleased to offer an intro-
duction to the fundamentals of basketball clinic. The clinic
will introduce the skills of dribbling, passing, shooting and
more in a high-energy 4-week program.
DAYS: Saturdays Jan. 5, 12, 19 & 26
TIMES: 1st and 2nd grades: 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.
Kindergarten: 9:45 – 10:45 a.m.

AFTER- AND BEFORE-SCHOOL CHILD CARE OFFERED IN HESSTON
“Latch” onto this offer, sponsored by Hesston Community Child Care Association, for quality after-school care and supervision for children in kindergarten through the 4th grade at Hesston Elementary School on school days and on the "No School Days," called Kids Connect
The program runs from 3 to 6 p.m. and from 6:15 to 7:30 a.m.
Also offered is a half-day program for kindergartners for the first
six weeks of school. Children will enjoy nutritious snacks, free
play time to exercise and release energy, and a choice of planned
group activities.
Fees for afterschool care is $4.75 per hour and the half-day
kindergarten supplement is $20 per day. A sliding fee scale is
available for families unable to pay in full.

Reservations shall be arranged by contacting one of the following three locations: (1) district administration office for commons, kitchens, gymnasiums, classrooms, parking lots, auditorium, and stadium; (2) recreation office for ball diamonds, soccer fields, swimming pool, tennis courts, and gyms for practices; or (3) The Pit Stop for rental of the Pit Stop snack shop. Reservations of any other spaces are at the discretion of the superintendent. Reservation of any facility ensures the user of access to restrooms, drinking fountains, and furniture regularly used in the facility. District facilities will not be rented on the day of or the day prior to New Years, Easter, and Christmas; nor the day of or the day after Thanksgiving. A half day is four hours or less; a full day is anything in excess of four hours. Additional facility rental terms are available through the USD 460 administration office, 620-327-4931. CITY OF HESSTON The city of Hesston maintains two park multi-use facilities that may be
reserved by an organization or individual. These facilities are the Heritage
Park shelter house and the King Park community-use facility. These
buildings are in great demand, therefore, a reservation procedure has been established.
Reservations are to be made through City Hall during regular working hours by
calling 620-327-4412
Reservations shall be granted on a “first come - first served” basis.
Payment of rental fees must be made at the time the reservation is made.
Reservations will be taken for no more than one year in advance.
Rental fees for park facilities are available through the city office.
Rental fees will be refunded if the reservation is cancelled by notifying City Hall of the
cancellation at least three days in advance of the rental date. Additional rental terms and
agreements are available through City Hall.
