Tallahassee, Fla. 32306 MEDIA INFORMATION QUICK HITS Florida State enters the 12th week of the 2018 season ranked No. 8 by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and No. 6 in the USA Softball poll. The Seminoles have been ranked in 82 consecutive polls by USA Softball, and in the top 15 of the NFCA poll for 77 straight weeks. The Seminoles are ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Softball RPI for April 23, and have the No. 1 ranked non-conference strength of schedule in the nation. Florida State leads the all-time series with Notre Dame 13-5, and have won each of the last five games of the series. The Seminoles are just 2-2 on the road at Melissa Cook Stadium, splitting the regular season series with the Irish in 2014 and 2016. FSU is approaching its sixth-consecutive ACC regular season title and has a magic number of two. With two wins this weekend, the Seminoles won earn the 16th ACC regular season title in school history. With just one win and a Boston College loss, Florida State would clinch the ACC Atlantic Division title and secure one of the top two seeds at the 2018 ACC Softball Championship in Atlanta, Ga. Seniors Kylee Hanson (No. 5 - Cleveland Comets) and Jessie Warren (No. 7 - USSSA Pride) were both selected in the 2018 NPF Draft on April 23. ACC WINNING STREAKSStarting the 2018 ACC season with 10 wins, along with its perfect 24-0 record in 2017 and winning its final two ACC games of 2016, Florida State won 36 straight conference games from May 7, 2016 to April 6, 2018.

The 36-game winning streak is both the longest in FSU and conference history, passing the streak of 23 the Noles put together from 2001 to 2004, back when there were only four member schools that participated in softball.

NAT’L CONFERENCE STREAKSFlorida State’s 36-game winning streak in ACC play ranks as the fifth-longest conference winning streak in NCAA history.

Massachusetts holds the all-time record with 52 straight wins in the Atlantic 10 from 2000-03, while Florida’s 37-game streak of SEC wins in 2008-09 is the only conference winning streak longer among the Power 5 conferences.

OVERALL WINNING STREAKBoth in conference and out of conference, Florida State posted a 20-game winning streak from March 3 to April 6. It is tied for the eighth-longest winning streak in school history and the most since a 24-game winning streak during the 2017 season.

The Seminoles outscored their opponents 141-30 over that span, led by Sydney Sherrill’s .433 batting average, 12 doubles, five home runs and 27 RBI. Kylee Hanson posted a 12-0 record during the streak with a 0.43 ERA and 84 strikeouts over 65.0 innings.

600 CAREER WINS!Head coach Lonni Alameda earned her 600th career win on March 10 with a 9-6 victory at North Florida, and now is 621-305-2 (.671) in her coaching career.

In her 10th season at Florida State, she currently has a 464-147-1 (.760) record with a 177-41 (.812) mark in ACC play. She has been named ACC Coach of the Year five times - 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 - and led the Noles to ACC Championships in 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Alameda came to FSU after five years at UNLV, winning 157 games for the Rebels and earning Mountain West Conference and NFCA West Region Coach of the Year honors in 2005.

POWER FROM EVERY LINEUP SPOTFlorida State leads the ACC with 84 doubles and 19 triples, and ranks second in the conference with 50 home runs.

That extra-base hit production has come from all over the batting order, as each spot in the lineup has recorded at least four extra-base hits so far in 2018, with six of the nine having 14+ XBHs this season.

There have only been seven games this season in which Florida State has failed to record at least one extra-base hit.

FLORIDA STATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR’S CUP FOR SERVICEFor the second time in the last four seasons, Florida State Softball was honored with the Athletic Director’s Cup for Service, give to the sport on campus that did the most hours of community service throughout the year.

In 2017-18, Softball averaged over 51 hours of community service per player, which far surpassed Swimming and Diving’s 29 hours of service per student-athlete.

The Seminoles routinely give back through street cleanups, going to local elementary schools, meeting patients at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Cancer Center and many other events and activities.

MULTI-STRIKEOUTS!Seminole senior Kylee Hanson ranks third in the ACC with 179 strikeouts and has recorded 53 innings this season with multiple strikeouts, including 13 times where she has recorded all three outs via strikeout.

YOU GET AN XBH, YOU GET AN XBH!The Seminoles have had explosive production from up and down the lineup, and even off the bench so far in 2018.

Led by 33 extra-base hits from Sydney Sherrill (24 2B, one 3B, eight HR), there have been 13 FSU batters to record at least one XBH this season.

In total, the Noles have 153 extra-base hits in 2018 with 84 doubles, 19 triples and 50 home runs.

Every Seminole player with more than eight at-bats on the season has recorded at least one extra-base hit.

EXTRA BASE HIT RECORDSThrough just 48 games of the 2018 season, the Seminoles are already approaching several team records in doubles and home runs.

Aided by Sydney Sherrill’s 24 doubles, Florida State has already tallied 84 doubles which ranks second in the NCAA and is seven more than the nearest Power 5 school (Washington - 77).

The 84 doubles ranks sixth-most in FSU history and is just 10 away from the Florida State record of 94 doubles set in 2017.

The Seminoles also set its single-season home run record of 71 in 2017 and the 2018 Noles are working their way up the list to try and match or exceed it. So far, FSU has 50 home runs, which already ranks sixth all-time at Florida State.

NINE WCWS APPEARANCES • 15 ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS • 30 NCAA APPEARANCES4

FSU/ACC/NCAA RECORD WATCHA pair of Seminoles have already created some of the best careers in FSU history as seniors Jessie Warren and Morgan Klaevemann are all over the Florida State Top 10 list in numerous categories.

Warren broke the school record in home runs in 2017, and currently has 75. She also holds the ACC HR record and ranks in a tie for 13th in NCAA history.

She has the most career home runs of any player from a school in the state of Florida, surpassing the total of 71 set by UCF’s Stephanie Best (2002-05) and Florida’s Lauren Haeger (2012-15).

On February 21, she set the FSU career record in RBI, set the ACC record in RBI on March 3 and now has 248, which is tied for 16th in NCAA history.

Warren is also in the FSU Top 10 in runs scored (210 - second) and doubles (45 - third), while her current career BA (.385) and slugging percentage (.815) would easily top the current FSU marks of .366 and .645, respectively. Her career SLG% would also rank No. 13 in NCAA history.

Klaevemann has a current career batting average of .369, which trails Warren, but would also exceed the current Florida State record of .366 set by Shamalene Wilson from 1993-96. The senior centerfielder also has 118 walks, which ranks fifth in FSU history and her 178 runs scored are seventh-most in school history.

Klaevemann’s 120 stolen bases already places her fourth on the FSU all-time list and sixth in ACC history. Junior Cali Harrod has already swiped 72 bases in her three-year career, which ranks ninth in school history.

Freshman Sydney Sherrill already has 24 doubles through 47 games of the 2018 season, which currently leads the NCAA and has already shattered the FSU record of 19, set in 2017 and 2006. Her 24 doubles currently is fourth in ACC history and is tied for 30th in NCAA single-season history.

SENIOR CLASS FINALISTKylee Hanson was chosen as on selected as one of 10 finalists for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award, given to student-athletes that excel in the areas of competition, character, community and in the classroom.

Hanson is joined by Kaylee Carlson (Auburn), Ivie Drake (Georgia State), Meghan Gregg (Tennessee), Kayli Kvistad (Florida), Paige Parker (Oklahoma), Kylee Perez (UCLA), Randi Rupp (Texas State), Vanessa Shippy (Oklahoma State) and Allie Walljasper (LSU) as 2018 finalists.

Alex Powers (2017) and Lacey Waldrop (2015) are previous winners of the Senior CLASS Award from FSU.

ACC CONTROLThe Seminoles have been the elite team in the Atlantic Coast Conference for several years. Since the conference added softball in 1992, Florida State has won 15 of the 27 ACC Championships, including a shared title with Maryland in 1997.

The Noles have earned the regular season conference title in each of the last five seasons and earned ACC Championships in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. FSU holds the top four win totals in the regular season versus conference opponents, tallying 24 ACC victories in 2014 and 2017, 21 in 2016 and 20 in 2015.

Florida State is unbeaten in its last 47 conference series, posting a 43-0-4 mark against ACC foes, including 35 sweeps. Over that span, FSU posted a 1-1 series split versus Virginia Tech (2014), at Notre Dame (2014), at Louisville (2015) and at Notre Dame (2016).

The Seminoles are 123-12 in their last 135 ACC regular season games (.911%) and last lost a conference series at Maryland on May 5-6, 2012.

MAGIC NUMBER IS TWOFlorida State is on the verge of its sixth consecutive ACC regular season title this weekend, entering the Notre Dame series with a 16-2 record in conference play.

With two more FSU wins, the Seminoles will clinch their 16th ACC regular season title in school history and can even clinch an ACC Atlantic Division title with one win and a loss by Boston College.

Freshman Sydney Sherrill swept the national awards, on April 10 after an outstanding weekend at the plate. She finished with a .579 batting average and tallied six doubles on the week, increasing her season total through 40 games to 22, setting an FSU single-season record and leading the NCAA in the category. She also hit a pair of home runs and drove in nine RBI on the week.

ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEKJunior Carsyn Gordon was named ACC Player of the Week on Tuesday, February 13. The first baseman led the team on opening weekend with a .667 batting average (8-for-12) with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, seven RBI and eight runs scored. It is the second time in her career that she has earned the weekly honor.

Kylee Hanson and Sydney Sherrill were not only the best Pitcher and Player of the Tallahassee site of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, but of the whole ACC, as they both received honors from the conference on February 20.

Jessie Warren and Meghan King swept the ACC awards on February 27, as Warren broke the ACC HR record and tied the ACC RBI record on batting .476 with five home runs, 12 RBI and slugging 1.238.

72018 FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLE SOFTBALL • 1981 & 1982 AIAW NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

FOOL ME ONCE...Florida State has avenged every possible defeat this season as of the nine losses in 2018, eight have come against teams that the Seminoles have played multiple times this season, either in a doubleheader or at other times in a weekend tournament or the season.

In seven of those situations, FSU has earned the win in game two, defeating No. 20 Michigan (2-0), South Alabama (14-1), No. 10 Alabama (3-1), Hofstra (5-0), No. 6 Oregon (2-1), Pitt (8-0) and Boston College (5-4), while taking game one against No. 6 Florida (4-1) before losing game two at UF.

The Seminoles have earned at least one win versus every team it has played multiple games against this season.

STARTING ON A GOOD NOTEFlorida State has scored 50 runs in the first inning, which is the most runs scored in any single inning this season. The Seminoles have posted a record of 21-0 when scoring in the first inning and are undefeated at 33-0 when they are the first team to score.

TWO OUTS? NO PROBLEM!While the Seminoles are third in the ACC with a .295 batting average, FSU is even better when down to its final out in the inning as the Noles are batting .314 (127-for-405) with two outs this season, led by Jessie Warren’s .421 (16-for-38).

Warren leads the team with 24 two-out RBI, as the team has driven in 111 of its 254 RBI this season with two outs.

FACING TOP PITCHINGThe Seminoles have faced 12 pitchers this year that currently rank in the top 50 of the NCAA in ERA and are a combined 9-4 in those games, including wins against Oregon’s Megan Kleist (0.77 - sixth), Florida’s Aleshia Ocasio (1.15 - 19th) and Texas State’s Randi Rupp (1.23 - 22nd).

As a team, the Noles have played against 11 different schools with a Top 50 team ERA in the NCAA rankings, with a combined 18-5 record against those schools, including wins against No. 2 Michigan, No. 4 Oregon, No. 8 Florida, No. 13 Hofstra and two wins versus No. 15 Texas State.

VERSUS NCAA’S BESTThe Seminoles have put together a difficult non-conference schedule and have faced 14 of the Top 50 Watch List members from USA Softball, as well as eight of the top 25 preseason players from ESPN.

After earning a win over Texas State’s Randi Rupp on opening day, the Noles faced four players during the ACC/Big 10 Challenge on February 16-18. They limited the three Minnesota hitters to a .111 batting average (2-for-18) with a double and two runs scored. Michigan’s Faith Canfield finished 3-for-6 on the weekend with a double and a run scored.

South Alabama’s Devin Brown scattered four hits and five walks in a 3-1 win over Florida State on Feb. 21, and closed out the weekend against Alabama’s Alexis Osorio who tossed a three-hitter.

Oregon’s pair of hitters combined to go 5-for-10, with one RBI, while the Noles defeated Megan Kleist, 2-1

The Seminoles earned a 4-1 win over Florida with Aleshia Ocasio in the circle, while over the two games, she batted 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Amanda Lorenz scored a run on 2-for-4 hitting with two walks, while Kelly Barnhill gave up one run and two walks with 10 strikeouts in UF’s 5-1 win in Gainesville.

Overall, opposing hitters on this list have tallied a .326 batting average (14-for-43), with three doubles, two RBI and five runs scored, while the pitchers have combined for a 3-3 record and 2.15 ERA in 39.0 innings with 12 runs allowed, 16 walks and 49 strikeouts.

NINE WCWS APPEARANCES • 15 ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS • 30 NCAA APPEARANCES8

PITCHING EFFICIENCYThe Seminole starting duo of Kylee Hanson and Meghan King have been outstanding in the circle this season and have quickly gotten the FSU defense back in the dugout on very efficient outings.

Hanson has faced four or fewer batters in nearly 88% of her innings this season (129-of-147.0), including 77 perfect 1-2-3 innings. King has seen no more than four batters in 70% of her times in the circle (82-of-116.1), with 52 three-batter innings.

DO NOT PASS FIRSTAs hard as it is for opposing batters to get on base against Kylee Hanson, due to her 179 strikeouts on the season with a opposing batting average of .137, it becomes ever harder to move around the bases against her.

The redshirt senior has allowed 109 baserunners this season on 69 hits, 32 walks, one HBP and seven Seminole errors, but only 57 of them (52%)have reached second base. Just 33 of those have advanced to third base this season and Hanson has allowed 22 runs on the 2018 season.

NFCA FRESHMAN OF THE YEARWith her explosive first season of collegiate softball, Sydney Sherrill was named one of the Top 25 candidates for the Schutt Sports/NFCA National Freshman of the Year.

Sherrill leads the Seminoles with a .389 batting average and has 24 doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 43 RBI and 33 runs scored as a freshman from Moore, Okla.

The 25 candidates will be pared down to 10 on May 10 before the three finalists will be selected on May 23. The 2018 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year will be announced on May 29 in Oklahoma City prior to the Women’s College World Series.

NCAA LEADERSThe Seminoles are ranked No. 8 in the NFCA poll for April 24 and are among the best in the country in several statistical categories.

Through 11 weeks, FSU ranks in the top 30 nationally in 11 different categories, including third in double doubles (1.83) and triples (0.41) per game, slugging percentage (.522 - ninth), ERA (1.36 - 10th) and scoring (5.98 runs per game - 22nd).

Individually, seven different Seminoles are among the top 100 in the NCAA in 19 separate categories, with Sydney Sherrill leading the nation with 24 doubles. Jessie Warren has 1.10 RBI per game which ranks 23rd in the country. Kylee Hanson has averaged 3.40 hits allowed and 8.7 strikeouts per seven innings this season, which ranks No. 9 and No. 32 in the NCAA, respectively. Meghan King’s 1.01 ERA ranks 16th in the nation this season.

ACC LEADERSFlorida State has opened the season with a 39-8 record and are on top of the ACC Atlantic Division with a 16-2 record.

Entering the 12th week, FSU leads the conference in 16 different categories, while individually, seven different Noles rank among the top three in the ACC in 20 separate categories as Kylee Hanson’s 0.90 ERA and Sydney Sherrill’s 24 doubles, Jessie Warren’s 44 RBI, along with Carysn Gordon’s 34 walks all top the conference.

PERFECTION!Redshirt junior Meghan King and sophomore Cassidy Davis combined to record a perfect game against Northern Iowa on February 23, retiring all 15 batters faced in the 9-0 victory over the Panthers.

It is the second perfect game and 22nd no-hitter for Florida State since 2009 when Lonni Alameda became the head coach. It also marked King’s second perfect game as she retired all 18 Tulsa batters faced on March 12, 2016.

OH SO CLOSE!The Seminole pitching staff has done an impressive job of limiting hits by the opponents and nearly have had a few more no-hitters as FSU has recorded six one-hitters.

The Seminoles allowed a first inning single at Texas State (2/10), a second-inning double against Florida A&M (2/14), a leadoff single in the first inning at South Alabama (2/21), a fourth-inning single against Hofstra (3/3), a double in the third inning at North Florida on March 10 and an HR in the first inning vs. Louisville (4/23).

In addition, there have been eight two-hit games this season by the FSU pitching staff.

2018 ACC/BIG TEN CHALLENGE Tallahassee was one of five host cities for the third annual ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge, along with Atlanta, Ga., and three sites in North Carolina - Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Durham.

In this challenge each ACC team: No. 8 Florida State and RV Notre Dame played two games against each Big Ten school: No. 14 Minnesota and No. 20 Michigan.

The ACC won the challenge for the second year in a row, finishing with a 26-14 record. In 2017, the ACC came out with a 19-13 record, while the Big Ten won the inaugural Challenge in 2016 with a record of 20-12.

No ACC school finished the 2018 Challenge with a losing record on the weekend as all 10 schools went either 2-2, 3-1 or 4-0.

Florida State and Notre Dame each finished 3-1 in Tallahassee, while Michigan had a 2-2 mark and Minnesota was 0-4.

Florida State has a combined record of 9-3 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, and have won nine of their last 10 games of the Challenge, sweeping Minnesota in 2016 and 2018, and both Northwestern and Nebraska in 2017.

SCORELESS STREAKKylee Hanson held opponents without a run for 34.1 consecutive innings from March 2-21, a span covering six appearances.

In those games she allowed 16 hits and 7 walks and tallied 46 strikeouts. Hanson did not allow a runner to even reach third base in the first 32.0 innings of the scoreless streak.

SENIOR CLASS CANDIDATES/FINALISTSeminole seniors Morgan Klaevemann and Kylee Hanson were selected as two of the top 30 candidates for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate softball. Florida State is one of two schools, along with LSU, to have multiple members among the Top 30 candidates.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Florida State has had three student-athletes win the Senior CLASS Award, including Baseball’s James Ramsey in 2012 and Softball’s Lacey Waldrop (2015) and Alex Powers (2017).

FIRST HIT, FIRST HOME RUNFreshman Sydney Sherrill started off her Seminole career with a bang, sending her first base hit while wearing the Garnet and Gold over the right field wall against Portland State on February 9. She is the first Seminole player to record a home run for their first base hit since Carsyn Gordon hit a grand slam against Florida A&M on February 24, 2016.

NINE WCWS APPEARANCES • 15 ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS • 30 NCAA APPEARANCES10

DUAL MVPS OF ACC/BIG TENFor the first time, each host site of the ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge awarded a Most Valuable Pitcher and Most Valuable Player award to a member of from the four teams at that site.

The Seminoles took both awards for the Tallahassee site, as a pair of newcomers to Florida State excelled on the weekend against two ranked teams.

Freshman Sydney Sherrill was dynamic at the plate to earn Most valuable Player honors, batting .583 (7-for-12) with two doubles, two RBI, three runs scored and a .750 slugging percentage over the weekend. She had her first career four-hit game on February 17, hitting safely in all four plate appearances against No. 14 Minnesota.

Redshirt senior Kylee Hanson may be in her first year at an ACC school, but felt right at home, posting a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA to take home Most Valuable Pitcher honors. She gave up just four hits and three walks over 11.2 innings with 12 strikeouts and limited No. 14 Minnesota and No. 20 Michigan to a .098 batting average on the weekend.

AROUND THE HORNThe softball is often tossed around the infield after a strikeout, but the home run bat was tossed around the Seminole infield on opening day as each starting infielder hit a home run against Portland State on February 9.

Third baseman Jessie Warren started the barrage with a two-run home run in the second inning, while shortstop Cali Harrod (two-run) and second baseman Sydney Sherrill (two-run) each hit round-trippers in the third inning. First baseman Carsyn Gordon finished the circuit with a three-run home run in the fourth inning.

WATCH OUT!Heading into the 2018 season, senior Jessie Warren and redshirt junior Meghan King were named to the Top 50 Watch List for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.

It marks the fifth season in a row Florida State placed a student-athlete on the preseason watch list as they joined Warre, Jessica Burroughs and Alex Powers in 2017, Burroughs in 2016, Lacey Waldrop and Maddie O’Brien in 2015 and Waldrop in 2014.

Waldrop won the award in 2014 after leading the NCAA with 38 wins and finished third nationally with a 1.13 ERA. Florida State was the first school in the nation with multiple winners of the USA Softball Player of the Year award, as Jessica van der Linden was given the national award in 2004.

FRESH FACESThe Seminoles return 16 players from the 2017 season and welcome six newcomers who are wearing the Garnet and Gold for the first time in 2018.

A five-member freshman class is highlighted by Sydney Sherrill (Moore, Okla.) who is a member of the USA Junior National Team. Rock Benavides (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Savanna Copeland (Fishers, Ind.) each decided to make quite the tip from home to go to school in Tallahassee, while Madison Kennedy (Baker County, Fla.) and Mackenzie Puckett (Cairo, Ga.) are going to school much closer to home.

Kylee Hanson (Jupiter, Fla.) is a redshirt senior pitcher that is playing her only season at FSU in 2018. Building an impressive three-year career at Florida Atlantic from 2014-16, including earning NFCA All-American honors in 2016, her 2017 season was ended in the second week of games due to an injury. Graduating from FAU allowed Hanson to continue her education and pursue a master’s degree in Public Health while competing in her final year of NCAA eligibility.

ACC PRESEASON FAVORITEFor the fifth consecutive season, Florida State has been chosen as the preseason favorite to win the 2018 ACC regular season championship, as voted on by the league’s 12 coaches.

FSU earned 121 points and all 11 of the eligible first-place votes, as teams were not allowed to vote for themselves.

North Carolina (105 points) and Notre Dame (97) also finished in the top three of voting.

FIVE IN A ROW!Florida State has been the ACC regular season champion for each of the last five seasons after finishing with the best conference winning percentage in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

It was the first time that any school in the ACC has won five straight regular season titles, passing FSU’s four-year streaks from 1992-95 and again from 2001-04.

No other school in the conference has won the regular season title even four times in a row and Georgia Tech is the only other ACC school to secure three consecutive conference championships, as the Jackets earned regular season titles in 2009-11.

TRIO OF ALL-AMERICANSFor the second year in a row, the Florida State softball team has three active members who have previously earned NFCA All-American honors.

Jessie Warren (First Team) and Morgan Klaevemann (Second Team) each were recognized by the NFCA in 2017, while Kylee Hanson comes to FSU after being named an NFCA Second Team All-American in 2016 with Florida Atlantic.

#FSACCFIVE CORE VALUES OF FLORIDA STATE SOFTBALL

FAMILY - When you play softball at Florida State, you don’t just play for a team, you play for a family. Each

person cares for their teammates as if they were a sister, committing to each other through thick and thin. As

members of an extended softball family, each one motivates the other and enjoys seeing them succeed. When issues

arise, communication is key and allows for a loving relationship that creates a bond that results in an entire team of

student-athletes fighting for each other, both on and off the field to be the best they can be.

SMART - Being smart, in a wide variety of disciplines, is a cornerstone of the Florida State softball program. In

school, it allows you to achieve a degree and plan for a future after softball. At practice, it means training with a purpose,

honing your skills and gaining experience by not just going through the motions. In the game, it means having a plan at

plate offensively or a pitching and defensive shift plan for opposing hitters based on various scouting reports. Off the

field, it means making wise decisions with time management and other activities to be able to be at your best.

AGGRESSIVE - You aren’t just given things in life, you must aggressively pursue your dreams in order to

achieve them. Being aggressive means taking that extra base on a ball in the gap, stealing second when you need

to get a runner into scoring position, heading to your teacher’s office hours to talk about things you may not have

understood in class, going after a hitter with your best pitch in the best location and challenging yourself to become

the best you can be because you are passionate about helping the team succeed.

COMPETITIVE - A team-based sport is one of the most competitive dynamic there is in life. To be successful,

you need to be competitive in many areas. We strive to be competitive on the field, winning individual games, along with

conference and national championships. We are competitive with each other on the team, knowing that we make each

other better as each one raises their level of skill and accomplishments. We are also competitive off the field, in the

classroom and in the workforce as there are many who would seek to be where we are, but only few will attain it.

COMMITTED - The previous four core values mean nothing unless everyone is committed to it. Obstacles

and challenges will come up. Losses on the field and issues off of it will occur and cause problems that will need to be

addressed. But when we are committed - to each other, to the team, to the goals that have been set - very little can

disrupt our goals and pursuits. A unified force with a united passion is very difficult to stop and our commitment to

the vision and the process will enable us to be successful.

CCore Values Shape Culture• The Seminole Softball team has incorporated these values into all areas of team life, both on and off the field. • Each fall since 2015, FSU experienced “The Program”, a two-day boot camp event where the team worked on communication, problem solving, endurance, persever-ance, paying attention to details and teamwork while accomplishing tasks on the field, at a pool, on the beach, in the woods, among others.• Each year, the team has been able to build trust within the team by attaining goals and going through the physical and mental adversity that The Program imposes on them as a collective team and unit. • The Seminoles also start each game and practice at “The GATE”, which at JoAnne Graf Field is a physical gate, but it helps to focus on being present for the team, allowing outside distractions to stay outside and to “Give your All to the Team Everyday.”

“PLAY FOR THOSE WHO CAN’T”One of the foundational principles that Florida State softball is built on is, “Play for those who can’t.” The Seminoles have displayed that throughout the years, including recently with people like Taylor Foster, Madison Marshall and Monk Bonasorte.

Taylor Foster became part of the FSU family in 2013 through a connection with the ACC, and despite growing up in North Carolina, dreamed of playing softball for the Seminoles. Foster was diagnosed with bone cancer in at the age of 13 and her passion and enthusiasm in the face of such adversity never faltered. The Noles would routinely stop by to see Taylor and her family when playing NC area schools and the players and coaches would often keep touch via calls, texts and video chats. After her passing in April of 2014, an annual memorial tournament and camp was started and organized by FSU softball players, coaches and support staff for youth in North Carolina to share Taylor’s passion for the game and tell of her legacy.

In 2016, and through a partnership with The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, FSU softball adopted Madison Marshall who had been diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2014 at the age of 14. The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation was created in 2005 and pairs children with pediatric brain tumors with collegiate sports teams, as they have seen the symbotic relationships that are formed help both the child going through such a difficult situation, but also the teams that are able to come along side a family and help them fight and learn a new appreciation and persepctive on life.

Monk Bonasorte, one of the main FSU athletic administrators responsible for hiring Lonni Alam-eda as head coach in the fall of 2008, had played football at FSU in the late 70s, and was voted into the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1995. As a result, he bled Garnet and Gold and became a signifcant supporter of FSU softball, as well as all of the other sports on campus. In October of 2015, Bonasorte was diagnosed with brain cancer, yet never wavered in his passion for FSU and life. Right up to his passing in November of 2016, he continued to give his life to this university and be an example of the Florida State “Unconquered” spirit. In 2017, the Lonni Alameda Softball Camps began the Monk Bonasorte Camp (Camp MB42), where the young players in attendance not only learn about the skills of softball, but also about life and who Monk was, what he meant to Florida State and how he battled through such adver-sity. All of the proceeds of the annual camp go to the FSU Monk Bonasorte Scholarship, and to date, the camp has raised over $8,500.

There are numerous other relationships that have been formed over the years with young fans like Amber Howard and Maddie Briscoe, and even former players such as Dana Bailey that have battled cancer, the FSU players and staff know that there is much more to life than just this game. Though several are now gone, they are certainly not forgotten and remain a significant part of Seminole softball to this day.
