Introduction Speech for2018 Horseshoe Canada Hall of Fame
Inductee Ceremonyby Mike Holley, Chairman, H. C. Hall of Fame
Each year, I get up here and introduce the attending members of the Horseshoe Canada Hall of Fame and I can’t help but be reminded what a marvelous game we all participate in. Remembering players that make us aspire to pitch like they do. Individuals who, by their appearance (Elmer Hohl and the rakish tilt of his cap), by their pitching style (Sylvian Moisan having, almost literally, two shoes in the air at once), people who kept things fl owing and kept things on the straight and narrow (Jean Markle and her avid promotion of horseshoes and Jack Adams and this Hall of Fame and the keeping of the rules) just serve to make us remember that horseshoes is much more than just a game of irons. It’s a game that families play, it’s a game that friends enjoy, it’s a game of fi erce competition, but, most of all, it is a game that we all love.
So, with that, let me introduce the attending members of Horseshoe Canada’s Hall of Fame:From Alberta, 1996, Myrna KissickFrom Ontario, 2005, Sheila Leis
From Alberta, 2010, Dianne BeckFrom Saskatchewan, 2012, Colin FinnieFrom Saskatchewan, 2016, Dale Squires
This year’s inductee to the Horseshoe Canada Hall of Fame has been pitching horseshoes, much to the dubious delight of his family, since a very young age and has, until recently, been actively participating at a very high level. He has been instrumental in his provincial organization, has been a driving force in his local club and can still be found helping at whatever tournament he attends. Even his career has let him pitch horseshoes. He competed in an event that saw 10,000 athletes from around the world invade the host city and won the singles crown twice and the doubles once. He has attended the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association World Tournament 22 straight times, not always pitching, but always there. NHPA has even recognized this fellow with their 90+ award, for pitching a game over 90% in Championship play. He has had a 70+% twice in World Tournament competition, he has won his provincial title three times and has won the Horseshoe Canada Canadian Championship, Junior Boys, 1968, and Senior 40’ Men’s title four times.
Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce the 2018 recipient of the Horseshoe Canada Hall of Fame Outstanding Male Pitcher, from Ontario, Stan Leis.

This gives each young player an opportunity to learn and improve their game.Special Thanks to all of the parents who played and to those who kept score. We had a group of
