ChairHunterdon Healthcare System
Dear Friends,It is our pleasure to provide you with the 2018 annual report for the Hunterdon Healthcare System.
Last year, we continued our journey of HRO (High Reliability Organization) and began holding morning safety huddles every day. These daily briefings from every department of the hospital provide an overview of safety concerns for the day and provide the opportunity to help solve issues as a group. HRO has taught the organization to speak up for safety, always think critically, reliably communicate, stay on task, do no harm and cross check ourselves.
2018 was a year of further strengthening our commitment to expand beyond our Hunterdon roots and further develop services in Somerset County. We opened the Bridgewater Ambulatory Surgery Center and Hunterdon Advanced Imaging in the Bridgewater Medical Office Building.
Hunterdon Healthcare also welcomed Hunterdon Podiatric Medicine to Hunterdon Medical Group and added Mohs Surgery, a specialized form of skin cancer surgery, to the list of services that the Center for Dermatology offers patients.
The Hunterdon Healthcare Urgent Care centers in Flemington and Raritan continued to keep up with the demands of our patients who want care at their convenience. Last year our Urgent Care in Flemington treated 13,775 patients and Raritan saw 8,553.
We are proud that once again, Hunterdon Healthcare ranked among US News and World Report’s “Best Regional Hospitals” in New Jersey and the New York metro area. We also received their seal of approval as a high performing hospital for the treatment of heart failure, nephrology and geriatric patients. Hunterdon Healthcare was also honored with the Women’s Choice Award for Best Hospital for breast center and for cancer care.
This report illustrates not only our clinical outcomes, accomplishments and financial highlights, but the impact we have made on our patient’s lives.
To your good health,

Hunterdon Healthcare Celebrates 2018 Accomplishments › In 2018, Hunterdon Medical Center was
added to the Immunization Action Coalition’s Influenza Vaccination Honor Roll because of it’s stellar employee influenza vaccine program and compliance rates. Hunterdon Healthcare’s percentage of employees that received the flu vaccine in the 2017-2018 season was 97%. This surpassed the state reported adherence percentage of 87%, the national reported adherence percentage of 89%, and the Healthy People 2020 goal of at least 90%.
› Hunterdon Regional Pharmacy’s Meds to Beds program was created to offer patients the convenience of receiving their medications to their bedside upon discharge from the hospital. Last year, 802 patients were served by this program.
› The Care Coordinators in primary care offices throughout the system follow up with patients recently discharged from the hospital to insure their medication is adhered to. In addition, they monitor the patient’s follow-up with supportive services from skilled ambulatory professionals to keep them on the road to recovery.
– 4,437 patients contacted within 72 hours of discharge from the hospital
– 3,720 medication reviews completed
– 3,138 office appointments made
– 3,698 patients educated on chronic disease management
– 4,139 individualized care plans developed
– 10,560 general follow up calls made to patients
› Hunterdon Healthcare expanded integrated pharmacy and embedded pharmacists within the primary care practices as well as registered dietitians and social workers to address complex social determinants of health.
› Hunterdon Podiatric Medicine was brought on as a new specialty practice. In addition to the Flemington office, Hunterdon Podiatric Medicine expanded into the Bridgewater Medical Office Building and Hawk Pointe Medical Office Building in Washington.
› Hunterdon Medical Center’s Laboratory introduced house call visits. Now patients can have their blood work done in the comfort of their own home. Last year, the lab staff made 1,241 house calls. In addition, the outpatient laboratory grew and opened an office in the Bridgewater Medical Office Building in Somerset County and Hawk Pointe Medical Office Building in Warren County. All five outpatient centers saw 20,413 patients last year. In addition, the lab staff visited 16,000 patients in the nursing homes and in October started assisting Home Health in collecting specimens.
› The Hunterdon Health and Wellness Center in Clinton celebrated their 10 year anniversary. The Hunterdon Health and Wellness Center in Whitehouse Station expanded their facility and opened a new studio which is named the Stanley and Joyce Gliniewicz Wellness Atrium.
› February 2, 2018 marked the 5,000 th delivery of a baby delivered by one of our midwives. Midwifery started at Hunterdon Medical Center in 1988 and supports natural physiologic childbirth. Evidence shows those women who have continuous support during labor need less interventions, less medication, are more stable and their labor progresses faster.
