CEO MESSAGE

SOCALGAS | 2018 COMMUNITY GIVING SUMMARY

Bret LaneCEO, SoCalGas

One of the many things that makes me so proud to work for this company is seeing first-hand the positive impact we have on our customers’ daily lives. In addition to safely delivering natural gas to nearly 22 million customers to keep their homes and businesses running, we also give back our time and money to help the 500-plus diverse communities we serve thrive.

By focusing our support in key areas, we strive to maximize our impact. Our charitable giving activities are centered on encouraging emergency preparedness; protecting and preserving the environment; advancing STEM education; providing supportive services and housing for individuals experiencing homelessness; and supporting veterans and local business organizations. In 2018, SoCalGas® shareholders contributed more than $6 million to organizations in these focus areas.

Our employees care deeply about their communities, which highlights the company’s engrained culture of commitment to bettering all the communities we serve. Last year, SoCalGas employees volunteered more than 49,000 hours. They helped install smoke detectors in underserved communities; assembled and distributed hygiene kits for veterans; prepared Thanksgiving meals and welcome home kits, and helped build houses for people transitioning out of homelessness. Our employees inspired kids to learn about science, technology, engineering and math. And, they helped the environment through several beach and park clean-up activities, tree plantings and took alternative modes of transportation for Earth Month and Clean Air Day.

SoCalGas employees also helped our parent company, Sempra Energy, celebrate its 20th anniversary by contributing to the goal of logging a cumulative 20,000 volunteer hours. In return, Sempra Energy provided twenty $20,000 grants to organizations focused on tackling homeless issues. Congratulations to the seven winning organizations in our service area: Affordable Living for the Aging, Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County, HomeAid Orange County, LA Family Housing, the Riverside County Workforce Development Center, The Salvation Army of San Bernardino and United Way of Greater Los Angeles.

I’m so proud to be part of a company that provides not only an essential and affordable energy to our customers, but to lead a company that is part of the fabric of our communities, and where our employees are wholly invested in the region’s well-being – both now and in the future.

Sincerely,
