2018 Annual Report
Nick MoorePrism Health North Texas Board Chair
(2018-Present)
2018 was another good year for Prism Health North Texas, full of change and progress.
In 2018 we continued to closely watch the market changes in HIV and STI infection rates and emerging services, and will do so over many years in the future. Our goal is to provide services to all in the area, regardless of health status or ability to pay.
Here are some highlights of 2018:• 48% increase in the number of patients seen since 2013 • 200 patients enrolled in the PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) program
regardless of insurance status • Secured a location and had plans drawn up for a new location to provide
PrEP and STI testing and treatment in the Oak Lawn area to open in 2019• Formed a partnership with Equitas Health in Ohio to open a Pharmacy
near the South Dallas Health Center in fall of 2019.• By the one year anniversary of opening the South Dallas Health Center
had a 52% increase in the number of patients over 2017. South Dallas offers a full service line of HIV Primary Care, behavioral health counseling, case management, on-site labs, STI testing and treatment; regardless of ability to pay for services or insurance status.
In closing, thank you for your generous and continued support. This important community work would not happen without each and every one of you: our donors, volunteers, partners and friends.
Warmest Regards,
Thank You!

Care
Thanks to community support, when Lin’s* sister pushed her wheelchair into one of the PHNTX health centers the staff was ready to serve. Lin was extremely thin, weak and so depressed she would not make eye contact with anyone.
Over 5 years ago Lin found out she was HIV positive - she was so embarrassed and afraid of how HIV would affect her life, that she never sought medical care nor told anyone. She continued to work and convinced herself that the test all those years ago must have been wrong. Then came the point she was so ill, she could no longer walk on her own, had multiple infections and a CD4 count of less than 10.
The medical team immediately began helping Lin address her HIV and critical medical status from multiple angles. It was clear Lin believed that she was going to die. She was only going through the motions of seeking medical care to appease her desperately worried sister. She was admitted to the hospital directly from her first PHNTX visit and stayed there for many weeks.
Opening up about her HIV diagnosis to her sister and accepting both emotional and physical support was a big first step in understanding
that HIV does not define her as a person. Lin’s medical status is currently stable after a few very close calls and she is now working and
once again living on her own – staying engaged in a partnership of care with Prism Health North Texas.
