Dear Friends of CADS Foundation,

As we look ahead to the 7th Annual Arizona Dental Mission of Mercy to be held December 7th-8th 2018 at the Veteran’s Coliseum at Arizona State Fairgrounds, I feel this is an appropriate time to “catch our breath” long enough to reflect on the milestones reached by the CADS Foundation, where the foundation goes from here and to say a huge “Thank You” to all of the volunteers and sponsors that make possible the work we do.

Founded in 2011, the CADS Foundation was created out of the need for basic dental care for the most vulnerable members of the community. This vision of our founders was to have an event that provided free dental care to as many people as possible to help alleviate pain and infection caused by neglect and lack of care. From 2012-2017, the AZMOM Program has provided almost $11 million in free dental care to over 10,000 patients. This has been achieved in only 12 days of clinic – when the CADSF was formed 7 years ago no one could have anticipated this type of need.

Looking ahead, CADSF will be sponsoring smaller clinics in different areas of the state including the first ever AZMOM event in Flagstaff at NAU on June 7th-8th 2019. We are also committed to the 2019 Maricopa County Veterans Stand Down in January 2019. Not only do we have opportunities to host our own events, but we have been asked to partner with other groups in other areas of Arizona.

None of this amazing work could happen without the support of over 9,500 volunteers who have helped deliver care and service to our patients. We have a very loyal volunteer base who are there from start to finish, event after event – to all of you we are so very grateful. Lastly, free dentistry is not “free”. We start every year with having to meet our financial goals and raise the funds necessary to make these events a reality. You will meet our sponsors and donors on the pages inside this report - please join us in thanking every one of them for their continued support.

I also ask that each one of you take the time and fill in the enclosed pledge sheet and consider either donating to CADSF for the first time or increasing your pledge and continue giving. Without your support, there is no way we could continue this work. I hope you enjoy reading this report and thank you for helping the CADS Foundation be the best it can be.

Sincerely,

Brett Dameron, D.D.S.CADSF Board President

In 2011, Central Arizona Dental Society President, Dr. Fred Olsen and President-Elect, Dr. Marty Margetis had heard about the America’s Dentists Care Foundation from Wichita, KS – ADCF was the sponsor organization for Dental Mission of

Mercy events that took place in about 25 states across the country. Dr. Olsen thought a program like this might be successful here in Arizona, so he sent his colleagues out to different states to investigate what a dental Mission of Mercy program was all about.

Dr. Terry Ramsey & Dr. Pat Rabot went to the New Mexico Dental Mission of Mercy. Dr. Jacqueline Allen volunteered at events in Wisconsin and Oklahoma. When the group reconvened after these trips, they knew the Dental Mission of Mercy concept as outlined by ADCF could be a big success if it was implemented here in Arizona. Therein lies the origins of the Central Arizona Dental Society Foundation – initial planning and organizational meetings were held at Dr. Allen’s office and from there the AZMOM program as it exists today was launched.

During a 2011 lobbying visit to Washington, DC, Dr. Olsen and his colleagues mentioned AZMOM to Congressman Ed Pastor the fact that we needed a place to host the program. Congressman Pastor made a couple of quick phone calls back to Phoenix and just like that CADSF had an excellent venue to host AZMOM – the Veteran’s Coliseum at the Arizona State Fairgrounds.

From 2012 – 2017 the AZMOM program has been a huge success – treating large numbers of patients in the two-day clinics. Over the years we have expanded the treatment offerings to include CEREC crowns, flippers/stayplates and immediate dentures. Since 2015, the Ponderosa/Overgaard Lions Club has provided free vision screenings to patients.

Additionally, CADS Foundation developed its own EMR software so that patient data gathered at hosted events can be utilized to gain a better understanding of the patients we serve and their dental needs as well as to share with public and private sector stakeholders - to work together to develop an improved delivery process and system for our patient population.

We are all truly grateful to the CADS Foundation founders for the foresight and vision they had which made the AZMOM program available to Arizonans who needed this type of clinic to address their basic dental needs. From its simple beginning to the dynamic opportunities that are in front of us today, the CADS Foundation will continue to be true to its core mission of “bringing free dental services to those truly in need”.
