“Moving Towards Diversity and Inclusion: Mitigating Implicit Bias and Its Effects” presented by Cara Lichtenstein, MD, FAAP was a focus topic. Dr. Lichtenstein is the Associate Program Director for the Pediatric Residency Training Program at Children’s National Health System where she focuses her teaching, clinical work and research on addressing health disparities in underserved populations. In advance of the meeting, participants were asked to participate in the Harvard Implicit Bias test, which was developed by a group of researchers from Harvard University. It is free and confidential. The tests are designed to help one better understand our implicit biases and recognize how our unconscious can drive our decision-making with regards to factors such as: race, gender, religion, culture, sexual orientation and obesity. If you would like to take the test yourself, please see this link: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html There were workshops on chapter development to discuss different ways to develop both fundraising and disaster preparedness plans to enhance chapter capacity by working on proven strategies, techniques and best practices. Chapter leaders then broke down into small groups as how to best implement the strategies shared. Each joint district meeting celebrates the participants with an awards banquet. CALIFORNIA 1
