A Message From the President of the YMCA Board.

All at this facility.

This building is where generations of Saskatonians learned to swim, where families gathered and where seniors visited. It housed job training programs and youth development courses. It was the birthplace of the Caribou Classic and the Secret Santa Campaign, and the home base for summer camps at Wakaw and Blackstrap Lakes. Over the years the interior has been reshaped to serve chang-ing needs of the community. Through all of the changes, it has retained the unique YMCA spirit of community that we often take for granted, but that is what sets us apart as a special place.

The Y has changed and grown over that time to meet the needs of the community. The YMCA has played an essential role in Saskatoon’s community not just for the 50 years in this facility but 112 years in Saskatoon. Our dedicated volunteers and staff have been a vital part of everything we have done and continue to do.

Our YMCA today sees us have an impact with over 700 children a day in our before and after school programs at 10 schools, 300 children in childcare at four locations, helping 2,500 people a month live a healthier life, and working with over 190 staff and 50 volunteers.

In the last year we have seen tremendous growth in our childcare and youth programs. We opened a new childcare location in Fairhaven and continue to look for more opportunities to provide quality childcare to our community.

We held our first annual Suits and Sneakers event in support of the Strong Kids Campaign. This fun and engaging evening helped raise funds for the campaign and will set the stage for future events in support of the YMCA.

To help celebrate our 50th anniversary and to ensure a long-term sustainability this year we intro-duced the Caribou Legacy Giving Club. The club honours individuals who have committed to include the YMCA of Saskatoon as part of their estate. We are honoured that our committed supporters have selected the YMCA to be part of their legacy and be part of the heritage of the YMCA.

It was an exciting year for the YMCA of Saskatoon, and we look forward to another year of serving the community.

The past year was a big year for the YMCA of Saskatoon because there have been many great things happening, including the fiftieth anniversary of our Downtown location. Its been fifty years at this YMCA location. Fifty years of families, fifty years of serving the community, fifty years of connections with friends, fifty years of fitness, fifty years of volunteers working together, fifty years of helping kids.

Over 550 subsidized memberships provided access to memberships and programs which helped individuals and

families connect and be healthier.....together

Over 70 subsidized kids have access to high quality BASC right in their school,

keeping a safe and connected environment providing parents.....peace of mind.

Over 250 subsidized children aged 5-13 participated in week-long summer camps. Where many of them built their first long term camp friendships. Children who

otherwise may not have had the opportunity. Parents felt more supported and connected when their child(ren) are safe, active and included.
