Marc Berejka, REI, Co-opKick off the day with some inspiration from keynote speaker, Marc Berejka, Director of Government and Community Affairs at REI, Co-op. REI is known for its innovation, leadership in sustainability and work in transforming the recreational landscape for the benefit of everyone. With a CEO that has stated “caring for the world around us is woven into the very fabric of REI,” core values play an important role in the bottom line at REI. In fact, through its Opt Outside Campaign, REI made a courageous decision by closing its stores on Black Friday so its 12,000 employees can spend the day outside with the people they love.

REI is dedicated to promoting environmental stewardship, increasing access to outdoor recreation and creating a work environment of respect, diversity, shared values and a passion for the outdoors. Marc will share how REI’s values influence their decision making, including the choice to locate their new corporate headquarters in the Spring District, deepening the Co-op’s involvement and commitment to the Bellevue community.

Marc leads REI’s efforts in advocacy, community and government affairs and oversees the Co-op’s community grants program which annually distributes several million dollars to hundreds of local, regional and national organizations that help sustain and promote the outdoors. REI’s grants also focus on supporting and promoting outdoor volunteerism. Marc will speak to the importance the Co-op’s core values, community building and civic engagement.
