SOUL, BLUES, AND ROCK AND ROLLTHE BEAT AND RHYTHM OF MODERN MUSIC WAS BUILT BY
MEMPHIS.
Memphis is a city defined by creativity and community, and the perfect home for the 2017 NAMP Conference, hosted by Americans for the Arts and local host ArtsMemphis. “Grit n’ Grind” isn’t just the motto for the city’s beloved Grizzlies basketball team—it’s the ethos for all of Memphis. Like NAMP arts marketers, Memphians come together and roll up their sleeves to get the job done through changes and challenges alike.
The city’s powerful music and art is reflected in its people’s fight for human dignity during the American Civil Rights Movement. The NAMPC Opening Reception takes place at the historic Clayborn Temple, the center of the Sanitation’s Workers Strike that drew Dr. King to Memphis in 1968. After 25 years, the Clayborn is being restored to its original glory, as Memphis embraces its past and moves toward the future.
