AND GOINGS .…..

Vicki Scott, (formerly Vicki Gassor) has changed both her name

and her role at the Network. Formerly Vicki’s role was to assist in

all aspects of the clinic process. Her new role as RESOURCE

COORDINATOR began in late November 2016. Vicki is

responsible for intake and connections for individuals who need

immediate, “light touch” support. In an effort to reduce waitlists

that continue to grow, Vicki will provide access to resources for

individuals needing connections……...

Jacy Morissette, our Prevention Conversation Facilitator has left us for Balmy

Victoria. Jacy has certainly left a legacy. We realize all of Jacy’s hidden talents

since she has gone…..social media….connections with the performing arts

world...connections with RDC …..her reverence for all. Watch out Victoria!!

Good news is, we have been fortunate to hire Chris Chabot. Jacy and

Chris were strong allies in getting the prevention message out in the

West Country and were instrumental in assisting all to understand

that healing is necessary before we can prevent…….

Chris Chabot has enjoyed living, working and volunteering in the west country for 18 years in both private and

non profit sectors. Her experience has included health care, youth organizations, harm reduction, First Nation

communities, and working with populations affected by complex issues. She has been involved with building

connections and collaborations to create capacity for community members, and enjoys promoting and providing

educational opportunities to create understanding among diverse populations. Chris is looking forward to her

new role as the Prevention Conversation Facilitator, and welcomes anyone to connect with any questions, sug-

gestions, or opportunities for partnerships.

Chris will share her time between Rocky Mountain House with an office at the Rocky Native Friendship Centre

and the Central Alberta FASD Network office. She can be reached by

e-mail at: [email protected] or by phone at 403 845-3093.

And the goings……..

Garett Hingst, our Corrections Consultant, who has been an instru-

mental member of the Bowden Project team is leaving us to join the

Disability Services Division in Rocky Mountain House. We wish

Garett all the best in his new endeavor and know that he will continue to spread the word about FASD prevention

and services.

FAREWELL Garett! You will be missed!!!!

“Looking Through the FASD Lens”

Presented by: Liz Lawryk, BSW MSc.H.S.RSW,

Chief Clinical Examiner of the OBD (Organic Brain Dysfunction)

Triage Institute

Who Should Take This Training?

Probation and Parole officers, Intake Staff, Nurses, Social Workers, Physicians, Psychologists,

Educators, Administrators, Provincial/Federal Women’s and Men’s Institution Staff, J

John Howard and Elizabeth Fry Support Staff, Lawyers, Judges, Community Program Staff,

Justice, corrections—IF you work in Human Services—

You Need This Training and Information!!!

What Will You Learn?

This seminar provides training in the first stage triage screening for the possibility of Fetal Alcohol

Spectrum Disorders for youth and adults involved with Correctional and/or Community Support

Services. The Preliminary Triage Screen provides the user with a time effective, and reduced liabil-

ity process, in order to determine referral necessity to a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder)

Multidisciplinary Diagnostic Team.

Individuals with suspected FASD pose many challenges to those involved with the initial interview

or intake process. This is true if you are a Police Officer, Probation/Parole Officer, AISH Intake

worker, Income support Intake worker, Hospital intake, Mental Health worker, Homeless Shelter

staff, etc. You are often challenged with “suspecting” that something is not as it should be with the

individual but are hesitant or insufficiently knowledgeable of this disability to make referrals to

those who can provide a full assessment. This 2 day seminar will prepare you to both “identify” and “query” characteristics that when clustered indicate that the individual should be referred for

further medical assessment and how to refer.

Where: Crossroads Church, 38105 Range Rd. 275, Red Deer County—E. on 32 St

from the North, W. on 32nd St. from the South Off the QE2
