PRIOR TO APPLYING FOR A CREDIT UNION STUDENT CHOICE LOAN, BE SURE TO...

• Fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

• Apply for scholarships - you never know how many you may be eligible for

• Take the maximum amount of Federal Stafford Loans

• Know which college you are going to attend

We offer an alternative student loan program, Credit Union Student Choice, that helps students fill the funding gaps that federal aid can leave behind. As the

cost of both public and private colleges and universities continues to increase, federal funding has not kept up. This growing gap between what college

costs and the financial aid available is causing many families to resort to higher cost loans to pay for higher education.

This past April we celebrated National Credit Union Youth Month ™. Our keiki members were encouraged to save as much as they can and discover the science of saving! Throughout the month we celebrated with fun activities at our branches. This year our savers deposited over $911,400 and conducted nearly 4,187 transactions! What a great start for our keiki to discover the power of saving early at Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union.

Our members and staff were quick to respond to those in need due to the lava flows in Puna. We partnered with HOPE Services Hawaii to be able to provide aid. Our staff donated 70 cases of water and we collected over $4,200 in monetary donations to support those in need. Our branches also acted as collection sites where hundreds of articles of clothing, dozens of back packs, and many other needed items were donated. Mahalo to our members and communities for helping us support Hawaii Island.

Honokaa Western WeekDid you get a chance to visit our Honokaa Branch and see Moani, Menard and Roberta celebrating during Western Week?

Our Kohala Branch is proud to participate in the King Kamehameha Day Parade with a float every year. This year, other branches and departments were able to help make the ti leaf leis that our branch presented at the parade.

Hearing from our members has always helped us to improve. Starting in the next few weeks, we’re going to want to hear from you more often. We’ve partnered with Market Trends Pacific, a local Hawaii company, to help make this happen. You may be receiving surveys, via email or phone call, in regards to recent branch, online or call center transactions. Hearing from our members more often will help us continue to serve our members the best way possible.
