We appreciate that those marshalling the Aberhirnant and Dyfnant stages on the Saturday have a long day ahead, as these are both the opening and closing stages to the day with the National Rally passing through the woods in between, so it means that everyone will be in these forests for a considerable amount of time. TIR PRINCE

For the first time since the event moved to North Wales, there will be no ceremonial start as the rally action starts straight-away with the opening stage on Thursday night.

A spectacular competitive stage will be created at the Tir Prince Raceway in Towyn, County Conwy, complete with jumps, to begin the four days of unmissable World Rally Championship action.

This thrilling new addition to the four-day itinerary will feature a 1.1-mile (1.7km) floodlit course incorporating parts of Tir Prince's trotting track and other areas within the park.

Thanks to the proactive and enthusiastic support from Conwy County Borough Council – the rally's official 'Host County' – the Visit Conwy Special Stage at Tir Prince will be an amazing opportunity for the north Wales public to see the new WRC cars in action.

The traditional opportunity to gather autographs from the WRC stars will take place just before the stage gets under way at 19.00. The action starts with the WRC2 competitors before the new WRC cars take their place in the spotlight in reverse championship order. All cars will start the stage at 2-minute intervals.

RALLY STAGE TEAM - all information in one place

Once again the amazing folk behind the RST website and database are providing the vital marshalling information for the stage commanders and the regional teams.

There have been a number of updates to the site over the last few weeks, one such feature is the ability to be able to add a profile image to your own page. It may seem a small, trivial update but when you are signing-on a few hundred people for your stage it will help those on the stage to recognise just who they have in front of them.

Information is a valuable tool to everyone involved with the preparation of the UK's round of the World Rally Championship. The marshals' pages of www.walesrallygb.com have been updated to provide a detailed matrix on the status of each stage.

This will allow stage commanders, radio controllers and each volunteer to see immediately which stages have reached their maximums on required numbers, which are almost full and which opportunities are still available to marshal across each section of the rally.

Remember, the event is much more than the 12 special stage locations. There is the Rally Village in Deeside, the regroups in Newtown, Chester, Corris and Brenig, plus the refuel locations across the route and the high profile finish in Llandudno on Sunday. All need to be marshalled and operated to the highest standards by you; the rally marshal.

MARSHAL ACCREDITATION

It doesn't take long to complete the on-line training and register with the MSA. It is really important for us to know that we all have the same basic knowledge and awareness as we are such a big team.

Not only that, but once you register you get an MSA Marshal's Kit delivered to your door containing a marshal's tabard, a torch, a hand warmer and, most importantly, a flask! Not bad for a few moments of your time and a great 'thank you' for your commitment to British motorsport.

FAMILIAR FACES IN NEW LOCATIONS

With an event the size of Dayinsure Wales Rally GB we have the privilege of being able to draw on the skill sets we need from all around the UK. What it means is that you end up seeing familiar faces but in territory you may not have expected to bump into them.

For 2017 there are a few changes around some of the teams and we will try to highlight them below:

SS1 Tir Prince - Neil Cross, Stage Commander

Donning his Ring Master's Top Hat and Tails we have Neil Cross in charge of the new opening showbiz stage, Tir Prince. Neil has recently looked after Shakedown and then the Sunday stage in Clocaenog. Tir Prince will be a completely different stage to manage compared to Shakedown, one that Neil and his team are looking forward to.

Shakedown - Karen Spencer, Stage Commander

With Neil looking after the opening stage on Thursday evening, a new team was required to manage Shakedown on Thursday morning. Step forward the Buccaneer team, led by Karen Spencer. Karen has been Deputy to Jon Binns on Brenig for a number of years and this was a great opportunity to take on a Stage Commander's role. Not being the sort of team to sit around once Thursday's Shakedown is complete; the Buccaneer lot are heading straight from Clocaenog to Brenig to set up for SS18/SS21 Brenig – Power Stage.

Chief Medical Officer - Ben Shippey

Ben Shippey takes on the mantle of CMO for the event. Having spent many a Rally GB stretched out in an MIV trying to sleep somewhere in the dark forests in Wales, Ben is coming indoors to spend his rally week in Rally Control. Motorsport experience is not something that he is short of, with stints at the British Grand Prix, Race of Champions and as Deputy CMO on Rally of Scotland, being a small part of his CV. Ben has also managed to create an Intensive Care Unit for the weekend on the Isle of Mull for that event every October (except this one of course!).

WHO ELSE HAS MOVED AROUND?

Kev Hughes is now in charge of communications across the whole event. In an area as renowned for its black spots as its beauty spots, getting a radio message from the woods to Deeside is an enormous job that Kev has taken on from Mike Summerfield.

Clive Townend is the new man in Newtown. Chris Tomley will be there to advise and guide Clive, using his extensive experience and knowledge of the area whilst everything is handed over.

Dave Baugh will be learning from Steve Gregg this year for as long as possible until Steve finally leaves for Australia (after three years of trying) in early September. He has the huge job of managing all the activities around Cholmondeley Castle. This RallyFest spectacular has a full-day's activity on the track that requires a lot of cooperation between the 'showbiz' elements and the sporting action.
