Welcome to the 2017 Competition
Awareness SeminarThis presentation will help you identify the requirements for entering the NZARH Regional
Hair Stylist of the Year.
The rules listed for each section will be enforced on the day by the Steward.
The photographs that are contained in this presentation have been selected by the
NZARH Competitions Committee to give a general feeling of the lines that are current:
but please remember “fashion never sleeps”!

Event Eligibility
Next Generation StylistA Stylist who has been employed within the hairdressing industry for less than four (4) years as
at 31st October 2017, including time spent in any full time pre-trade hairdressing course, or a
fully contracted Apprentice under an HITO agreement. Eligibility is to be verified by the
Employer or Training Provider.
Senior StylistA Stylist who has been employed in the hairdressing industry for four (4) years or more,
including time spent at any full time pre-trade training courses as at the 31st October 2017.
Qualified Stylists with less than four years hairdressing experience will compete as a Next
Generation Stylist

The Cut
Presentation Event
Execute a Haircut
with Technical Excellence
Model: Female or Male
Time Allowed: Five Minutes
Stylist: Senior | Next Generation
EVENT 1: THE CUT | PRESENTATION EVENT
o The cut must show technical excellence in the competitor’s cutting ability
o The use of colour is compulsory and must relate to the finished look
o Hairpieces / extensions may be used
o Wigs are forbidden
o The style is to be pre-done
o Multiple entries are allowed

Model: Female Only
Time Allowed: Five Minutes

EVENT 2: THE HAIR BY NIGHT | PRESENTATION EVENT
o The style must show technical excellence in the competitor’s styling ability
o The use of colour is compulsory and must relate to the finished look
o Hairpieces / extensions may be used
o The style is to be pre-done
o Wigs are forbidden
o Multiple entries are allowed

EVENT 3: THE CUT | LIVE EVENT
o The cut must show technical excellence in the competitor’s cutting ability
o All heads of hair must be reshaped and shortened by at least 3cm
o The use of colour is compulsory and must relate to the finished look
o Hairpieces / extensions may be used but must be cut and reshaped on the
competition floor
o Wigs are forbidden

The Day Style
Live Event
Glamourise a Female Haircut with Pure
Technical Artistry
Model: Female Only
Time Allowed: Twenty Minutes
Stylist: Senior | Next Generation
EVENT 4: THE DAY STYLE | LIVE EVENT
o The style must show technical ability and demonstrate styling skills in creating the finished look
o All styling aids must be removed prior to the start of the event
o All hair must be worked from roots to tips within the time allowed
o Dreadlocks, braids, plaits, twists, weaves, knots and ponytails in the models own hair must
be done within the time allowed
o The use of colour is compulsory and must relate to the finished look
o Hairpieces / extensions may be used but must be fully worked on the competition floor
within the time allowed
o Wigs are forbidden

EVENT 5: THE HAIR BY NIGHT | LIVE EVENT
o The style must show technical excellence in the competitor’s styling ability
o The use of colour is compulsory and must relate to the finished look
o Hairpieces / extensions may be used but must be assembled and completed on the
competition floor within the time allowed
o Wigs are forbidden

Barbering Award
Live Event
Execute a Men’s Sculptured Barber Cut
with Technical Excellence.
EVENT 6: BARBERING EVENT | LIVE EVENTModel: Male Only
Time Allowed: Thirty Minutes
Stylist: ANY NZARH MEMBER CAN ENTER THIS EVENT
o The cut must show technical excellence in the competitor’s barbering ability
o All heads of hair must be reshaped and shortened by at least 3cm
o The use of colour is optional, if used must relate to the finished look
o Hairpieces / extensions may be used
o Wigs are forbidden
o Any hair art or tattooing is to be done on the competition floor

The Colour
Execute a Colour
with Technical Excellence.
Model: Female or Male
Time Allowed: Five Minutes
Stylist: Senior | Next Generation
EVENT 7: THE COLOUR | PRESENTATION EVENT
o The colour must compliment the style, be technically well executed, and show clever placement
o All colour work must be pre-done by the competitor prior to arrival at the venue
o Multiple entries are allowed
o New models and models from Events 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 may be used (models from Event 6 cannot
be used in this event)
o New Models and Models from events 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 may be used
o Models from events 1,2,3,4 and 5 must not have had their hair changed in anyway between the
original event and the beginning of event 7 (The Colour Event).
o Hairpieces / extensions may be used
o Wigs are forbidden

Shape and Texture Enhanced by Colour
Regional Hair Stylist of the Year
The Regional Hair Stylist of the Year Award will be presented
to the competitor with the HIGHEST aggregate points from
the competition day.
To qualify for this Award the Stylist MUST compete in a
minimum of three events during the day – one of which
MUST be either Event 3 or Event 5.
The Stylist will choose which LIVE event they will enter at
Supremes (The Cut Live Event or The Hair by Night Live
Event).
Supreme Team will consist of
Regional Winners from: Event 3 THE CUT LIVE EVENT
First placegetter from this event – Senior Stylist and Next
Generation Stylist.
Event 5 THE HAIR BY NIGHT LIVE EVENT
First placegetter from this event – Senior Stylist and Next
Generation Stylist.
Event 6 BARBERING
First placegetter from this event.
AND The Regional Hair Stylist of the Year – Senior
and Next Generation Stylist
OUT OF REGION WINNERS
Supreme Team If the winner of Event 3, 5 and 6 are out of region Stylists, the next
highest placed regional Stylist will be selected for the Supreme Team.
Regional Hair Stylist of the YearIf the winner of this award is out of region, they can choose to self
fund to compete in the Supreme Competition.
