We are privileged to be your host to our 72nd Annual Fall Conference. San Mateo County is home to 766,000 residents and is affectionately considered to be All of California in One County”. The unique spirit of the County embraces six facets of daily life; its our sense of community, culture, green space, innovation, industry and impressive panoramic landscapes we call our backyard. From surfing to biking and pumpkin patches to farmers markets, the County has so much for everyone to enjoy. With an area of about 740 square miles, the County is comprised of twenty cities and towns offering escapes to water, trails, parks and beaches. The state-of-the-art San Francisco International Airport and a large part of Silicon Valley are located in San Mateo County. Several corporate campuses whose names have spread their influence in modern advancements have brought distinction to San Mateo County. Household names like Genentech, Oracle, YouTube, Facebook, Visa and SolarCity, are all recognizable names across the nation as well as the globe. As for the Conference, we look forward to engaging with our colleagues while we all benefit from a well-planned agenda. On your own time, we invite you to enjoy some of the unique local attractions and after-hour amenities available nearby in our County. We are thankful to our sponsors who have been very supportive with their contributions. We could not host this type of learning experience without their support. I also want to thank the San Mateo County and the State Controllers Office staff for their great work and determination to get us to the finish line. Our program this year encompasses a range of timely subjects including banking services for cannabis businesses, comprehensive tax reform, short-term housing rental platforms, updated Governmental Accounting Standards, and transportation funding. This gathering provides a great opportunity to talk directly with accomplished professionals from my team, as well as the California State Association of Counties, State Treasurers Office, Governmental Accounting Standards Board, local governments, and the private sector. Our continued collaboration facilitates accountability and high-quality service to Californians. Thank you to Auditor- Controller Juan Raigoza and the entire San Mateo County staff for hosting this outstanding event. On behalf of the County of San Mateo, it is our pleasure to welcome you all to

the 2017 California State Controller's Conference with County Auditors hosted

here in Millbrae within beautiful San Mateo County. We are privileged to be

your host to our 72nd Annual Fall Conference.
