2017 APRU Global HealthProgram ConferenceOctober 16-19, 2017University of the Philippines

C O N F E R E N C E P R O G R A M

On behalf of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 11th annual APRU Global Health Conference. I am delighted to have witnessed the strong development of the Global Health Program over the past few years and its increasing impact.

As the only network of leading universities linking the Americas, Asia and Australasia, APRU is the voice of knowledge and innovation for the Asia-Pacific region. We bring together thought leaders, researchers, and policy-makers to exchange ideas and collaborate on effective solutions to the challenges of the 21st century. The APRU Global Health Program is a perfect illustration of this.

Over the next three days, you will have the opportunity to network and collaborate with other global health experts to address existing and emerging health challenges in our region, including environmental exposures and cancer, among many other topics.

We are very grateful to The University of the Philippines for hosting this year’s conference and to the local team for all the work that has gone into its organization. Thank you, the participants, for joining the conference and sharing your research and education on global health.

I wish you a very productive and enjoyable conference.

Christopher Tremewan APRU Secretary-General

Welcome

2

Having been associated with the program now for nine years, I have witnessed the impressive accomplishments we have been able to achieve together. I am exceptionally proud to see that the Program has grown into one of APRU’s major success stories. This meeting gives us another chance to continue that success and to identify even more opportunities to work together—in research, in education, and in application. Our world, including the Pacific Rim region, is experiencing a time of uncertainty. These times demand that we global health professionals provide a strong example of how to work together across borders to address our shared challenges.

Whether this is your first conference, or you are a returning member, I invite you to get more involved in our program and to join our joint efforts to improve global health education and research among our universities. I look forward to spending time with you in historic Manila.
