※ Students who went to community college must graduate (with associate degree or

parents both have foreign citizenship even if one of their parents holds Korean nationalities.
※ Freshmen and transfer applicants are recognized as international students with foreign citizenship only when the
applicants and parents attained foreign citizenship before entering into high schools (Freshmen) or longer than three
years since the application date (Transfer). (Koreans with double nationalities are not recognized as international
students with foreign citizenship whose parents both have foreign citizenship.)

① Koreans residing overseas who have completed the entire elementary, middle, high school and undergraduate
education outside Korea should submit all elementary, middle, high school and University documents and earn
Apostille Certification from the Government of the country where he/she completed school or earn Consul’s
Confirmation from the Consulate office of Korea. However, students who went to Korean schools
acknowledged by the Ministry of Education of Korea are exempted from submitting above.
② If you did not take General Examination For High School Graduates, you must submit certificate of National
Higher Education Entrance Examination. For those who apply for undergraduate freshman admission and
graduated from vocational high schools should submit vocational high school graduate certificates and
transcripts with authentication certificates for both documents from CHSI.
③ For those who apply for transfer admission and submit certificate of enrollment should also submit high school
graduate certificates with Consul’s confirmation for the proof of the highest level of education.
④ For Chinese residents who have graduated from a Chinese school and have to send authentication graduation
certificates to an address overseas, please send it to Hanyang University, Office of International Affairs (Room
218, International Building, 222, Wangsimni-ro, Seongdong-gu, Seoul). For issuing documents which need an
authentication from CDGDC, please have all matters thoroughly confirmed with China Academic Degrees
& Graduate Education information
⑤ For those who apply for transfer admission, need to submit a proof of previous university’s (relevant major)
required credit for graduation. (It can be submitted in the form of information from the university website or a
letter from the university)
⑥ All submitted documents will not be returned.
5. Dual application for students applying for undergraduate program 1) Criteria
① Students who applied for Seoul campus for the first choice can also apply for ERICA campus as the second
choice.
② Students who applied for ERICA campus for the first choice cannot apply for Seoul campus or other
departments in ERICA campus.

※ Applicants who want to apply for both campuses must apply online twice. You can apply for ERICA
campus after applying for Seoul campus. If you do not pay for the application, you cannot submit another
application form.
3) The process of selection
Applicants will go through a screening process which will determine their eligibility based on an evaluation of
the documents they have submitted and the results of their admission test. Applicants will take the admission test
only once and those who do not get admission at the Seoul campus will automatically become candidates for
admission at ERICA campus.
4) Results and registration
You can check the result at our website by entering your birth date and application number. Those who applied
for both campuses should check the results for both campuses. Those who received admission at Seoul campus as
the first choice must register for the Seoul campus.
6. Affidavit of Financial Support
(Should be in the form of a certificate issued by a bank and a copy of a bankbook is not accepted)
▶ Certificate of balance with expiration date must be valid to the date after class starts. (Those applying for spring
semester should have certificate valid until March 2017, and September 2017 for fall semester)
▶ Applicants who are in Korea during application period can submit the certificate of balance of a Korean bank.
▶ Other currencies are allowed as long as the amount of the balance exceeds the currency of USD 20,000. (e.g.
RMB 140,000, KRW 23,000,000)
▶ The Certificate of parent-child relationship is required if the certificate of balance is not under applicant’s
name.
7. Selection Procedure
1) Graduate schools: Document screening (No admission test is required)
2) Undergraduate schools: Document screening + Admission Test (For certain departments, direct evaluation of
the department will take place)
※ Division of International Studies:

※ Theater and Film (Acting and Play directing major): Document screening + Performance screening

Industry and Management can take the admission test instead of submitting a sample of his/her

- Korean traditional music (Theory): One essay about Korean traditional music
- Art and Design: At least two pieces of artwork or Portfolio
- Applicants may undergo interviews if residing in Korea.
8. Admission Test (Undergraduate only) Only undergraduate applicants are required to take the admission test. Applicants who live in China should take
the test in Shanghai or Beijing. Applicants who fail to take the test will be automatically dropped from admission.
Foreign applicants residing abroad, except for China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan, must have an online video
interview substituting for the admission test.

3) Exam venue: Hanyang University (Details are to be announced)
4) What to bring: test ID slip, writing tools, passport or identification card
5) Questions will be given in Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese and Mongolian.
6) Choose one language among Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, German, French, Mongolian, Arabic and
Vietnamese to answer the questions. (Students applying for International Studies must write in English)
※ Those that do not participate in admission test will automatically fail for admission. (Except for those who
can submit his/her artworks)
9. Korean Language Proficiency Test
Success or failure in Korean Language Proficiency Test is irrelevant to the admission to undergraduate and
graduate schools. Nonetheless, students who have passed the admission test but failed the Korean Language
Proficiency Test must take leave of absence (maximum of 2 years) and take Korean language course at either the
Hanyang University Institute of International Education or language institute of other university. By passing the
Korean exam or submitting the Korean exam exemption documents (Certificate of completion of Level 5 at
Hanyang University Institute of International Education or Certificate of Level 4 of TOPIK achievement – For
ERICA campus, Certificate of completion of Level 4 at Hanyang University Institute of International Education or
Certificate of Level 3 of TOPIK achievement), students can be re-registered for upcoming school semester.
However, applicants who meet one of the following requirements may be exempted from the Korean test:
● Applicants who have acquired bachelors or master’s degree at Hanyang University or other universities in
Korea.
● Applicants who have passed Level 4 of TOPIK or completed Level 5 at Hanyang University Institute of
International Education (Graduate school and Seoul campus undergraduate)
● Applicants who have passed Level 3 of TOPIK or completed Level 4 at Hanyang University Institute of
International Education (ERICA campus undergraduate)
● Government-sponsored students including KGSP students
● Students applying for GSIS and Global Health & Development (Graduate school applicants only)
● Students applying for graduate school who submit a letter requesting test exemption from their academic
supervisor at Hanyang University
● Students applying for International Studies (Undergraduate applicant only)

10. Scholarships for International Students

HISP grantees are evaluated and selected based on scholastic
achievement at their previously attended institution among
applicants who are eligible to apply for the HISP.
● Qualification: GPA from the previously attended
institution must be 80 or higher when converted to a 100
scale
● Benefits: 100%, 70% or 50% reduction in tuition
● Scholarship period: Eight semesters (undergraduate) or
four semesters (postgraduate)

(Graduate: Master 4 semesters /
PhD 8 semesters including registration for research)

▶ Hanyang International Excellence Awards (HIEA)
HIEA is awarded to international students who have achieved
notable academic progress at Hanyang University.
● Qualification: Students with valid TOPIK level certificate
and Insurance who achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 the
previous semester
● Recipients are selected by paper screening and interview.
Recipients will receive 70%, 50% or 30% tuition
reduction according to their evaluation results.
● Scholarship period: One semester

▶ Hanyang Scholarship for Excellence in Language
Proficiency
Hanyang Scholarship for Excellence in Language Proficiency is
awarded to applicants who have passed the TOPIK level 5 or 6, or
achieved a TOEFL IBT score of 90 or higher or IELTS score of
6.5 or higher.
(Only documents submitted during the official application period
are acceptable.)
● Benefits: 30% reduction in tuition
● Scholarship period: The first semester only

▶ TOPIK Scholarship
Foreign student who is currently enrolled for a degree program and
obtained TOPIK certificate after the time of admission is eligible.
Student who is on a leave of absence OR extended his/her study in
undergraduate/graduate level is excluded.
● Benefits: Admission fee will be provided regardless of the
result of examination. Applicants must register for the higher level
than their former level obtained. Beginner level is not included.
● Scholarship: The scholarship will be provided in the case

of acquirement of higher level certificate. Level 6 holder can be
benefited in the case of their certificates are already expired or
having less than 5 months to the expiration date of their
certificates.

▶ Hanyang Scholarship for Engineering and Science Students
Hanyang Scholarship for Engineering and Science Students is
awarded to international students who gain admission to the
graduate school of engineering and science and are recommended
by a professor at Hanyang University. (It is not necessary for
applicants to submit a letter of recommendation.)
● Benefits: 50% reduction in tuition and admission fees
● Scholarship period: Four semesters
● Requirement: Scholarship recipients must achieve a
minimum 2.0 GPA each semester in order to retain their
scholarship.

admission to the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS).

▶ Scholarship for combined Master’s and Doctoral program
in Engineering and Science
Recipients are selected among combined Master’s and Doctoral
program students who receive a 50% tuition waiver scholarship for
Engineering and Science.

● Requirement: Scholarship recipients must achieve a
minimum 3.75 GPA each semester and have two or three
papers published in SCI(E) journals in order to retain
their scholarship

11. Graduation Requirement
▶ Regardless of admission period (spring or fall semester), freshmen need to finish 8 semesters and transfer
students need to finish 4 semesters to graduate. (However, those who registered for early graduation and
meet the early graduation requirements are allowed to graduate early.)
▶ Foreign Undergraduate students need to submit TOPIK level 4 and higher in order to graduate.
▶ Please visit the department office for other graduation requirements and graduation credits.
