The purpose of this health and community service organization is to get students actively involved in the cause of pediatric cancer to make a positive impact on the community. Causes include but are not limited to family support, financial support, legislation, and research. 1 voice encases campaigns and involvement in the Tampa Bay area so high school students may make an impact. The American Red Cross club gives you an opportunity to earn volunteer hours while participating in various fun filled fundraising activities. Here you'll meet new people, improve your resume, while contributing to your community and numerous lives around the world. You'll make a difference as an American Red Cross volunteer. Aprons & Angels The purpose of the Aprons & Angels Club is to support the Tampa Ronald McDonald House, and in doing so, promote leadership, camaraderie, compassion and community involvement. The House provides temporary lodging for pediatric families of hospitalized children from all over the state and country. Our club works under the guidance of the House Manager. We decorate the House for holidays and host holiday dinners for families staying at the house. Archaeology The Archaeology club offers the opportunity for Newsome students to learn more about the excavation, study, and preservation of artifacts and fossils. Students will go on several excavations, listen to guest speakers, and hold individual and group research, assist city/county historical societies as well as other historical preservation groups. Chess is a highly inclusive organization geared behind a shared passion for the game of chess. There is no skill level to requirement to join, and the knowledgeable leadership can teach and assist all students to develop them into better chess players. There will be voluntary after school tournaments and workshops for all to enjoy and compete in!

Cosplay The Cosplay club is for students who enjoy Cosplay – combining Costume with Play. In this club students can share their ideas and techniques for creating Cosplay art, as well as sharing their art with each other.

FBLA Future Business Leaders of America is a co-curricular club for students preparing for careers in business. Its mission is to bring business and education together in positive working relationships through innovative leadership and career development programs. Newsome boasts the largest FBLA chapter in District 9 and has won Chapter of the Year and Advisor of the Year awards multiple years in a row. It is a very active chapter that participates in competitions, fundraising, community service, and field-trips. You must be enrolled in a business class to participate in the club.

S FCS (Fellowship of Christian Students) The FCS vision is to see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of athletes, coaches, and students. Our goal is to serve our community by encouraging people to make a difference for Christ.

FCCLA Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America is a national organization for Family and Consumer Science Programs, with more than 220,000 members nationwide. Newsome’s FCCLA lets students learn and develop practical, real-world skills and talents which are keys to success whether entering the work force directly after high school or going on to college. FCCLA members compete in district, state, and national competitions. Awards and scholarships may be earned through competitive events.

FFA is an organization for students enrolled in Agriculture classes at Newsome High School. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education and activities.

French Honor Society The purpose of the French Honor Society is to recognize high achievement in the study of French among high school students.

Freshman Class Council The purpose of the Freshman Class Council is to organize, lead, and fundraise for the freshman class. Class Council is made up of elected officers and council members who have submitted an approved application.

Green club shall be open to all students who wish to help preserve the environment through personal efforts and those of our school and community. The club is student driven with ideas and activities chosen by the members and club officers. Members earn community service points through participation in club sanctioned activities to improve the environment.

GSA Gay Straight Alliance works to create a safe environment for ALL students. We strive to ensure that each member of our school is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

Guitar The Newsome Guitar Club provides a relaxed, unstructured forum in which beginner and advanced guitarists can learn from other guitarists their own age and share what they already know. Students must provide their own acoustic or electric guitars and basses and are required to bring their instruments to all meetings. Amps small enough to carry easily may be brought in, but storage for your amp may not be available. The sponsor is able to teach manual tuning, basic chords, strumming patterns, and a finger-picking technique or two, but please be advised that Guitar Club cannot offer the same level of instruction that private lessons can. Come ready to rock!

HOSA - Future Health Professionals is the premier organization for high school students pursuing careers in the healthcare industry. We are dedicated to promoting health and advancing quality, compassionate healthcare. Our mission is to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration and experience.

HOT Club promotes service activities among the youth of the community which will develop the individual qualities of leadership, experience, and opportunity and unites its members in friendship, fellowship, and mutual understanding.

Interact (of Rotary) gives students ages 12-18 the chance to make a real difference while having fun. Every Interact club carries out two service projects a year: one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding.

Journalism The Journalism club will promote the importance of newspaper and news. It is also to recognize those who are interested in journalism and media.

JROTC Members of Newsome’s JROTC club are motivated to be better citizens and are taught how to be strong leaders thru activities, awards, and ceremonies including Wolf-A-Thon, Field Day, and team competitions.

Junior Class Council The purpose of the Junior Class Council is to organize, lead, and fundraise for the Junior class. Class Council is made up of elected officers and council members who have submitted an approved application.

Latin The Newsome Junior Classical League pursues the interest in all things classical and promotes the study of the Classics. The NJCL also will participate in Regional and State sponsored competitions.

Latin Honor Society The Latin Honor Society fosters the continued study of classical languages and provides volunteer involvement for charitable organizations. Members must be currently enrolled in Latin 3 or higher, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, earn a B or higher for any semester in Latin, and be in good standing in the Student Affairs Office (no referrals).

Military Veterans Support Military Veterans Support Club was organized at Newsome High School in May 2013. The purpose of this community service organization is to support military organizations in the Southeast Hillsborough Area and the Haley VA Medical Center in Tampa through fund raisers and other activities. Additionally, the activity will adopt a military unit currently deployed in combat operations in Afghanistan. The club will also sponsor the publication of Oral Histories of 20th Century American Wars and the presentation of Volume I in May.

Mu Alpha Theta is for students interested in mathematics and promotes scholarship in, and enjoyment and understanding of mathematics among high school students. Students compete at the county and district level with independent tests and team rounds by subject level.

National English Honor Society fosters and encourages the study of English literature and the English language; it also offers opportunities for volunteer involvement. Members must be in good academic standing--overall but especially in their English coursework--with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

National Honor Society NHS’s purpose shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of Newsome High School. Membership is by faculty council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Once selected, the members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities.

National Technology Honor Society The Newsome Technology Honor Society promotes student achievement and leadership, educational excellence, and enhances career opportunities for its members. Members develop self-esteem, strong values: honesty, responsibility, initiative, teamwork, leadership, citizenship, and scholarship while being awarded an excellence in workforce education.

New to Newsome is a student ambassador club that allows transfer students to Newsome the opportunity to learn more about the school and participate in social and service activities with existing student ambassadors.

Poetry Club Members of the poetry club will share their original poetry. Help each other with the writing of poetry and performance of their poetry. They will also attend the poetry jam with a local poet.

Reading Students are encouraged to join for the opportunity to read for pleasure and have input into collection development for Newsome HS. Club members will be encouraged to prepare for and participate in our Teens Read Book Battle (Reading Rumble) in the spring.

Redefining Hope is a support club to help the girls that are in the rehabilitation facility, Redefining Refuge. During the year, we will correspond through letters, send care packages, and raise money to organize fun events for girls.

Rho Kappa Is a National History Honor Society open to juniors and seniors with an unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher. Members inducted into Rho Kappa in high school carry on their membership in college and community throughout the United States. Students who are invited into Rho Kappa participate in a wide array of activities such as tutoring/mentoring other students, veterans support, and Relay for Life.

S.A.L.S.A Club (Sound and Light Student Association)

The SALSA Club is open to students in the music and drama classes who are interested in learning more about the

technical aspects of performance (sound and lighting). Students will have the opportunity to put their skills to use operating the technical aspects of performances in the auditorium throughout the year.

Science National Honor Society The purpose of the Newsome SNHS is to encourage participation in and recognition of scientific and intellectual thought. Students who have excelled in science courses and have an enjoyment for science are encouraged to apply for this scholarship society. Once selected, the members of the SNHS will have the opportunity to communicate with the scientific community, work with the Newsome community with the comprehension of science, and encourage the pursuit of scientific knowledge.

Seeds of Hope This club wants to nourish hope among people in need through the actions and help provided by our NHS students in the form of food and clothing. We hope to provide community service hours that touch the lives of people who are struggling as well as students’ hearts which may spark an interest in lifelong volunteer service.

Sophomore Class Council The purpose of the Sophomore Class Council is to organize, lead, and fundraise for the sophomore class. Class Council is made up of elected officers and council members who have submitted an approved application.

Spanish National Honor Society Newsome’s Spanish Honor Society recognizes the high achievement in the study of the Spanish language and promotes continuity of the interest of Hispanic studies. Students must be enrolled in a Spanish III class or higher, be at least a sophomore, have a clean discipline record, have an unweighted GPA of 3.5 or better, and must have a teacher recommendation.

Special Olympics Newsome Special Olympics establishes a volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated student population and leadership development for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Speech & Debate Do you like to speak your mind? If so, The Speech & Debate club is for you. Speech & Debate will prepare you for interscholastic competitions and enhance communication skills. It’s fun! Trust us!

Spikeball is for anyone who enjoys playing spikeball! Members get together after school or on the weekends to play together. We also get together at events such as Relay for Life.

STEM Club offers students the opportunity to explore science and engineering disciplines through project-based design challenges. S.T.E.M. Club competes at regional and state competitions through Science Olympiad, MOSI Science Bowl, Robotics Leagues, and S.T.E.M. Fair to provide internship opportunities and real-world engineering experiences to students.

Student Government Newsome High School Student Government Association is the elected group that represents the entire student body. SGA is responsible for planning Homecoming, Pep Rallies, and all student events.

Surfrider Club is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world's oceans, waves and beaches. We hope to bring awareness to the issues facing our oceans and beaches, and challenge our entire student body to do their part in keeping them clean.

SWAT Students working against tobacco. Our purpose is to bring awareness of the dangers of tobacco to students to prevent them from falling prey to the addictive trap of the tobacco industry.

Thespians Students interested in all aspects of theatrical arts, and will be given opportunities to participate in group activities as well as lend support to Newsome Theatre productions.

Tri-M Honor Society Tri-M Music Honor Society is the international music honor society for high school students. It is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and to inspire other students to excel at music and leadership. Through more than 5,500 chartered chapters, Tri-M has helped thousands of young people provide years of service through music in schools throughout the world. Tri-M is a program of the National Association for Music Education.

True Love Waits The purpose of the True Love Waits club is to promote teen abstinence through friendship and education.

Writer’s Club The Writer’s club mission is to foster the students’ desire to write and to provide a forum for student writing. The ultimate goal is to publish Newsome High School student writing in magazine form in the spring. The club encourages all genres of writing: fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.

Wolfz Wardrobe - As a fashion-forward club we will discuss how to modernize used clothing and create new looks from thrift clothes which will be displayed at a fashion show. The looks and proceeds will then be donated to a woman's shelter. If you like to sew or want a career in the world of fashion, come join us.
