2017-2018 BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT OVERVIEW FOR HOMEROOM PARENTS
Congratulations and Thank You for Being a Homeroom Parent Volunteer!
Prior to BTSN, please discuss with your classroom teacher when you will be able to speak to parents, how to
set up for the PTO video, plus about what kind of light refreshments the teacher would like you to provide.
**Suggestions: cookies and/or wrapped candies and small chilled water bottles.
On Back To School Night: Please introduce yourself, show the PTO video on the smartboard, then mention the
below to highlight what you need from your classroom parents:
• PTO Introduction- please ask all families to join the PTO (No Obligation and ONLY $20!)
• Please distribute to each family (and collect!!) the PTO Membership Form and the Parent Questionnaire
for failsafe contact information.
• Distribute labeled class party envelopes (Suggested classroom party donation is $10 plus $5 for Raffle
Basket donation= $15 total.)
o Explain the classroom party and Raffle Basket donation collection envelopes and encourage
families to return the envelopes to you before they leave.
o Highlight that PTO membership is only $20 and includes a family copy of the school directory.
o Additional membership forms can be found at the PTO table near the school entrance.
o The PTO uses its budget to support Churchville by fundraising for and purchasing many of school
and classroom enhancements highlighted in the PTO video shown at BTSN plus available on the
PTO webpage.
o PTO sponsors many other family favorite events and activities throughout the year such as
Parent/Child Dances, Events, Baseball Games, BINGO Nights, Monthly Pretzel Sales and Putting
on The Hits.
• Please mention the PTO webpage at CRSD.org (Churchville Elementary --> PTO tab), Churchville
Parents Facebook Page, the PTO Facebook Page and the PTO weekly newsletter which is sent through
email and contains important form links and event dates and updates.
All are available to help parents stay connected to school events!
IMPORTANT POINTS TO MENTION:
• Emergency Class List- please have every parent complete the Parent Questionnaire. This form will provide
you with their names, addresses, phone (home and mobile) and email address. Please distribute AND
collect this form at BTSN. The Homeroom Parents will need to compile an emergency class list that includes
these “fail safe” numbers to keep on hand in case of a school emergency and forward this list to Jacqueline
Gromosaik and Brooke Dubowitch at [email protected] by September 30th.
• Clearances- ANY volunteer who is working with students one or more times per week and/or who is directly
supervising students will need to obtain state and FBI clearances and have them on file with Council Rock
School District. See School Office, District website and/or PTO website for more details.
• Children with Allergies-Please be sure to touch base (call or email) parents of children with allergies
following BTSN to discuss party food options.
• Fundraisers- Please ask that parents support Churchville and participate in Read-a Thon and purchase a
KidStuff Books. *Can also mention that if more parents join the PTO, then additional fundraising may not be
necessary later in the year!
• KidStuff Books- Please let parents know that their KidStuff Book is available for $25 and offers hundreds of
dollars in coupon savings. KidStuff Books are distributed at Back To School Night. If a family chooses NOT to
purchase the book, remind them to leave it on their child’s desk and NOT take it home with them. The PTO
receives $15 for each book sold- another EASY fundraiaser!
• Classroom Parties- There are 4 parties during the school year (Halloween, Winter Holiday, Valentine’s Day
and the Year- End party). Please ask for and collect a $10 donation from each family to cover food,
decorations and activities/games. Please have a small envelope marked with the family name and the
donation amount ready to distribute AND collect at BTS night!
• Back To School Picnic-will be held Tuesday, September 12th (from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm) with a rain date of
Monday, September 18th (from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm) and includes free ice cream bars for the kids and a fun
DJ. Pack a picnic and get to know Churchville families and teachers!
• Science Fair-will be held in November. Boards cost $5 and will be available at BTSN and in the school store.
• Field Day- Please mention that each class is either Blue or White and each child will need a Field Day shirt in
the appropriate color for Field Day-scheduled in May. Field Day t-shirts ($5 each) will be available in the
School Store (scheduled to open in September). Field Day colors will be posted on the PTO webpage and in
the school store in September.
• Box Tops – Please remind families to save their Box Tops and make sure your teacher has a collection box
available in their room for the Box Tops. PTO receives $.10 per Box Top! Contests will be announced
throughout the year.
• Product Redemption Programs – Shoperoo app, Smile.Amazon.com and Giant Bonus Card. See attached
sheet/s for more information about these easy fundraisers.
• Yearbook and School Directory Cover Contest – School Directory Cover Art Contest will happen in late
September and the Yearbook Cover Art Contest will happen late winter. Forms available on Churchville
website under the PTO tab.
