PRESENTATION: Building Families Legal Seminar and Q&A SessionKinna Crocker, Family Law Attorney at Crocker LawThe availability of new and innovative medical technologies has createdoptions for people who want to become parents and start families. Peopleare creating families in varieties of ways. Some use egg donation, spermdonation, or embryo donation. Some inseminate at home, some in a clinicunder the supervision of a physician. Some use a surrogate and someadopt. It is important that our families are protected, by securing a legalconnection between the parent and child. It is not enough to be listed onthe child’s birth certificate. This seminar will discuss the various methodsof securing necessary legal rights between parents and children.

Naomi Metz, Attorney At LawThe law provides a default plan for distributing your estate upon yourdeath, but this may not accurately reflect your intentions, particularly ifyou are not married or in a Registered Domestic Partnership. In addition, there is no default for the care of you and your assets in the event of yourincapacity. Please join us for a discussion with an expert attorney aboutthe options for financial and health care decisions during your life, andways in which you can direct the disposition of your assets upon yourdeath, including: Estate Planning, Enhanced health care protections withappropriate documentation, Financial powers of attorney, Gifting duringlife or upon death

I just wanted to say thank you again to everyone for making yesterdaypossible. My wife and I heard about this through Ana and it was amazingtiming, as we are in the beginning stages of planning conception. I haveone question, if anyone could give advice: How do you make Kaiser treatyou like a woman looking to to get pregnant, not a person who is infertile(haven't gone to them yet, but will be planning an appointment and want toknow how to approach them)? We went and saw a fertility doctor outsideof Kaiser and she treated us like we were infertile and/or were sick.

Rebecca Elowen It can be helpful to bring a friend, family member or 'fertilitydoula' to your appointments, and ask them to support you in advocating foryourself and asking questions until you feel clear. It can be so overwhelmingand vulnerable to be in that position, having someone who's less affected andcan offer a clear head can make a huge difference.

Thank you to everyone who came out for the day, either as attendees, panelists, presenters or volunteers, and for all the supporters and well-wishers from afar. It was a strong showing of queer families and asuccessful day of community building. Let's keep the momentum goingwith more family events in the North Bay. Until then, stay tuned forSonoma County Pride in June, with another family contingency in theParade and day of community building beforehand. Today was truly a dayby the people, for the people.

We have had tremendous community support for this symposium. The following businesses have made generous donations of food andbeverage so we can provide a free lunch to our attendees. Thank you AnaFlores Tindall for hitting the streets and garnering support and visibility forour families and community. Sonoma County and the North Bay are readyto support our LGBTQI families - a much needed light in uncertain times.Let's give our support back.
