the Austrian company Pieps GmbH is considered a global leader in technology in manufacturing avalanche rescue beacons. the company has been develo-ping, producing and distributing products for safety in ice and snow for 45 years, on a global scale.

In 1968, in collaboration with the technical university of Vienna, PIEPS developed its first avalanche rescue beacon, which was successfully intro-duced to the market in 1971. In 2003, PIEPS was the first company worldwide to launch the first 3-antenna avalanche rescue beacon with digital signal processing and an integrated MArK and ScAN function. the unique electronic avalanche probe PIEPS iProBE, which reduces search time by up to 60% and drastically increases the chance of survival is another product innovation offered by PIEPS.In winter 2014, the avalanche airbag

market was also revolutionised with the introduction of PIEPS JetForce: the first electronic avalanche airbag technology with a jet-fan that only uses ambient air to inflate, making it possible to trigger the device multiple times. Further product innovations were introduced in 2016. Alongside the new shovels with a unique c-handle, a small and light 3-antenna device with sensor and Bluetooth technology was also brought to the market. the company’s internal development department and its own production competency centre in Lebring/Austria, which collabo-rate closely with professionals from various mountaineering segments, lay the foundation for this success.

All products are also developed and produced under the guiding principle of PrEMIuM ALPINE PErForMANcE.

search for the strongest signal. once the position of the first burial has been located, the signal is suppressed by pressing the Mark-But-

ton. Automatically the next strongest signal appears on the display.

the useful range is the receiving range that guarantees stable first reception, even in a worst-case scenario.PIEPS devices have the largest omnidirectional range (circular!) and support rescuers with the greatest pos-sible search strip width.

ZERO ADDITIONAL COSTS

Because the system uses jet-fan inflation

instead of compressed-gas cylinders, PIEPS JEtForcE can be deployed for training without

additional costs.

The 200-liter JetForce airbag can be filled in less than 3 seconds thanks to the jet-fan rotor that spins at 60,000 re-volutions per minute (by comparison, a hairdryer spins at 4,000-20,000 rpm). Periodic refilling guarantees the bag stays inflated, even in case of small tears or leaks. Afer 3 minutes, the airbag automatically deflates, reducing pressure on the user. In the case of a full bu-rial, this can create an hollow space that increases the chance of survival.

wORKS EVEN AT -30°Cthe JetForce-system use a specially designed Lithium-Ion battery, which generates high current even at very cold temperatures (-30°c).

SELF-DIAGNOSISthe self-diagnosis checks the operational capability of the system on every startup and performs additional checks while armed.
