Mass at St Joseph’s Church, Boronia at 11.00am. Everyone is most welcome to join him on this day to celebrate this special occasion.

Our next Working Bee will be held on Saturday, 30th April. All families are encouraged to attend and assist with maintenance and gardening jobs around the school and grounds. Please remember that fami-lies who attend a working bee during the year will be reimbursed the $90 working bee levy that has been placed on your school fees. The School Improvement Committee (SIC) met last night to plan for this day. To assist in mulching many of our garden beds we require a “Dingo” with a bucket. If you are able to as-sist can you please contact the school.

Our Family Week Big Breakfast is on Thursday, 5th May commencing at 7.30am. Thanks to families that have already sent back notes indicating attendance and availability to assist with planning and on the day. This should be a wonderful way to start the day with family and school community. To assist with catering please return your note indicating numbers attending. The cost of the breakfast is $5 per family to cover some of our expenses - $1 per family from this will go to CatholicCare to support their services.

commUNITY@StJoes are trying to discover what social events parents may be interested in attending. Next week we will have a short survey for families to gather your opinions.

We are seeking two new members to join our School Advisory Council. Information letters and nomi-nation sheets will go home tonight. If you require any further information about this please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to answer your queries. Our next School Advisory Council meeting will be held on Monday, 9th May at 7pm.

Mothers Day is just over two weeks away and our annual Mothers Day Stall will be held on Friday, 6th May. A wide range of gifts will be available for purchase for Mum’s special day.

The National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be administered on Tuesday, 10th May for English (Language Conventions and Writing), Wednesday, 11th May for English (Reading) and Thursday, 12th May for Numeracy. It is extremely important that students are here on these days to complete these assessment tasks. If you have any queries about NAPLAN please make an appointment to see Leonie or myself.

Our first Family Mass for the year will be held on Saturday, 14th May at 6pm. We invite all families to come along and participate in this special liturgy prepared for our school families. Please put this date and time in your diary. We look forward to seeing you all at this Mass.

We are currently taking Enrolments for Prep 2017. If you have a child commencing in Prep next year and you have not done so already, could you please complete an enrolment form (available at the office) and return it to school this week. If you know any neighbours, friends, people at playgroups or pre-schools / kindergartens seeking enrolment for 2017, please encourage them to contact the school office to arrange a tour of the school.

Student Learning Portfolios (SLPs) were sent home at the end of last term. We hope you have made time to sit down with your child and let them talk about their work samples. The Student Learning Portfo-lio allow us to present samples of your child’s work from a variety of curriculum and specialist areas (including: Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Integrated Studies, and specialist subjects). There-fore over a year you will receive a “snapshot” of your child’s progress. We ask for these to be returned to

school by the end of the week so we can continue to put samples in these for Term 2.

Have a great week!

Peter Vanstan

Hi Everyone,

Last week in Buddy Time, all classes continued to explore Affirmations and

the power they play in creating a positive mindset. Students discussed the

times they had affirmed others, and when this had happened to them. Stu-

dents then wrote their own affirmation of their buddy, and these will be dis-

played in the foyer by the Kidsmatter Student Leadership Team. You are wel-

come to add your own affirmation to our display.

The annual Walk to School day is on Friday 20 May. St Joe’s has a proud rec-

ord of participation in this event, and we have a number of students who regu-

larly walk to school. Talk about the benefits of walking with your child, and

encourage your child to walk on this day. Remember, ‘part of the way is okay.’

Have a great week.

National Walk Safely to School Day aims to encourage safe pedestrian behaviour and pro-

motes the health and environmental benefits of walking by asking parents and carers to walk

to school with their children.

We are keen to promote this event wherever possible and have a number of media outlets

across Australia who contact us looking to cover local stories. They would love to hear about

your school’s involvement, big or small. If you want to see your school on TV, discussed on

radio or covered in the newspaper, for encouraging healthy and safe behaviours in students,

please register your school now by filling out the form on this
