Ride Engine started with a Santa Cruz waterman, his creative ingenuity and a deep reverence for the ocean as Mother Nature’s greatest playground. Coleman Buckley graduated from Stanford In 2010 with a degree in biology before returning to Santa Cruz to reconnect with his roots and evaluate his future… and to surf.

As the months blew by, Buckley, an avid tinkerer, started experimenting with designing kitesurfing harnesses. No harness on the market met the expectations or demands he and his friends had, so he set to work creating one himself. In

a makeshift lab in his garage, Buckley experimented with several Frankenstein designs, dissecting various harnesses, stitching together their components and bringing them to life in the sunny California breaks.

With collaboration from friends and pro riders, it wasn’t long before Buckley had created something genuinely revolutionary: the Armor harness. The buzz about the hard-shell, fully customizable form-fitting harness spread quickly, and Buckley unexpectedly found himself a busy business owner and designer, struggling to meet the demand for his sought-after products.

OURSTORY

Page 4: 2016 rideengine
Page 5: 2016 rideengine

In the fall of 2014 Buckley joined forces with 7 Nation, a board sports company based in the Pacific Northwest. With significantly more resources and collaborators from multiple industries at its disposal, Ride Engine quickly had the ability to branch out and develop new product lines crossing over to other action sports. Ride Engine is launching three models of highly-refined Armor harnesses to international markets in the summer of 2015 and will follow with a full line of wetsuits this fall.

With a mantra of innovation through intimate rider-designer collaboration, Ride Engine continues to branch out, and has connected with top riders and

innovators in the wake industry to develop a line of high-end wakeboarding accessories that will enter the market later this year.

Collaboration with the best has always been at the core of Ride Engine, and as the company moves forward that concept will remain integral to how it operates. Ride Engine works with and relies on the most elite athletes in their sports to design top-quality products that help connect people with the activities that make them happy. And with those fundamentals at heart, the future is wide open.

HARNESSEVOLUTION

Page 7: 2016 rideengine

BORN OUT OF A DESIRE TO CREATE A TRULY FORM-FITTING HARNESS, RIDE ENGINE’S ARMOR IS THE FIRST KITEBOARDING HARNESS TO FEATURE UNPRECEDENTED DESIGN ELEMENTS THAT WILL CHANGE EXPECTATIONS OF HOW A KITEBOARDING HARNESS SHOULD LOOK, FEEL AND PERFORM.

The core of the Armor is an ergonomic and form fitting hard shell designed from hundreds of precision molds. Unlike traditional harnesses that bend and flex, and consequently focus load on certain pressure points, the Armor shell contours firmly to the rider’s back and sides, distributing load evenly across the lumbar and hips and locking the harness in the ideal position.

The effect is a lightweight, low-profile, form-fitting piece of equipment that will dramatically improve the user’s entire kiteboarding experience. With traditional harnesses, riders are often forced to rotate their harness from side to side to get pull from the proper angle when carving upwind, riding toeside or catching waves. That range of motion requires a looseness in the harness that also allows up and down and torsional movement, which results in pull from the improper angle, rider discomfort, constricted breathing, back pain and limited mobility, among other issues.

With the Armor’s hard-shell Lumbar Lock technology, the harness does not rotate or ride up; it locks in place and stays exactly where it should. This keeps the connection to the kite at its optimum location, the rider’s core and center of effort, where leverage, power, comfort and control are maximized.

With a harness that locks in place, lateral motion must come from the connection between kite and harness, so we’ve designed an ingeniously simple spreader bar system that attaches directly to the rider’s chicken loop via a high strength rope running the length of the spreader bar. This allows the chicken loop to slide smoothly from side to side as the rider changes positions and angles of attack and brings the control bar closer the rider’s body, which results in more ergonomic control as the bar’s maximum throw is moved closer to the rider’s body.

Page 8: 2016 rideengine

Conventional kiteboarding harnesses have a major flaw in how they function, and the Armor harness solves it exceptionally well. Riders are often forced to rotate their harnesses from side to side to get pull from the proper angle when carving upwind, riding toeside or catching waves. That range of motion requires a looseness in the harness that also allows vertical and torsional movement, which often results in rider discomfort, constricted breathing, back pain, pull from the wrong angle and a variety of other issues.

With the Armor’s hard-shell Lumbar Lock technology, the harness does not rotate or slide; it locks in place and stays exactly where it should. This means lateral motion must come from the spreader bar. Ride Engine has designed an ingeniously simple spreader bar and pad system that connects directly with the rider’s chicken loop. This setup is totally unique and provides a smooth and full range of motion, allowing the harness’s lumbar lock technology to work its magic.

PROBLEMSOLVED

CONNECTION MADE SIMPLE: Deploy your control bar’s chicken loop quick release. Thread the chicken loop’s open end around the spreader bar rope.

Simply re-engage your chicken loop’s quick release to ensure attachment. Now you are ready to experience the ultimate rider connection.

“I love this sytem for its simple functionality and performance, as well as the peace of mind i receive knowing that my connection is trusted before even leaving the beach.”

- Patrick Rebstock

It solves a problem I didn’t even realize I had. And so comfortable!” - Fletch (Santa Cruz Shaper)“I love this [harness]! It’s so much better for wave riding it’s laughable...

Page 9: 2016 rideengine

All kiteboarders know the tendency their spreader bar has of riding up way too high. No matter how well your harness fits, or how tight you can get it, your spreader bar eventually works it’s way up your chest.

While inadequate harness technology is certainly part of the issue, the main culprit in this case is overly complex design. As the spreader bar hook extends out from your harness, it creates a lever that is frustratingly effective at inching your harness up your waist and chest during a session.

This problem is not just an annoyance; it can dramatically reduce the quality of your entire kiteboarding experience. It causes chest and back pain, restricted breathing and reduced performance as your kite pulls from an improper angle, among other issues.

PROBLEM SOLVED: Ride Engine’s metal slider Bar in combination with the integration of Lumbar Lock solves this problem exceptionally well. With the streamlined sliding rope system, the components adjust independently of one another; as the kite pulls from different angles the rope hinges up and down to accommodate, allowing the spreader

bar, and your harness, to stay exactly where they are supposed to.

This brilliantly-simplistic design is a key component to Ride Engine’s success in solving a problem that many riders have simply lived with over the years.

HEXSERIES

Page 11: 2016 rideengine

HEXSERIESTECHRide Engine’s Hex Core harnesses are built around a back plate constructed with our proprietary resin transfer honeycomb core technology. This high-tech method injects resin into a special honeycomb core, then vacuum seals it to distribute the resin evenly and form the lumbar profile.

This is the most flexible of the three Armor models, making it a bit more forgiving and universally fitting than the Pro and Elite series. Don’t let that description fool you though; this is still a rigid, form fitting harness that will to lock firmly in place like no other.

METAL SLIDERBAR

PROBLEM SOLVED: Conventional kiteboarding harnesses have a major flaw in how they function, and the Armor harness solves it exceptionally well. Riders are often forced to rotate their harnesses from side to side to get pull from the proper angle when carving upwind, riding toeside or catching waves. That range of motion requires a looseness in the harness that also allows vertical and torsional movement, resulting in rider discomfort, constricted breathing, pull from the wrong angle and a variety of other issues.

With the Armor’s hard-shell Lumbar Lock technology, the harness does not rotate or slide; it locks in place and stays exactly where it should. This means lateral motion must come from the spreader bar. The metal slider bar is a spreader bar, rope and pad system that connects directly with the rider’s chicken loop. This setup is totally unique and provides a smooth and full range of motion, allowing the harness’s lumbar lock technology to work its magic while rider changes angles of attack, carves upwind, rides toeside and slashes waves.

CARBON SLIDERBAR

For hooked-in riding, the carbon slider bar provides a direct and fluid connection to the kite unlike any other harness on the market. The difference between the carbon bar and a standard fixed metal spreader is so dramatic that we’re confident in saying, once you try this system you’ll never look back.

SILOSERIES

For users who prefer a seamless chest plate and the convenience and ease of entry of a back-zip

suit, look no farther than the Silo series. Offered in 4/3 and 3/2 thicknesses, these wetsuits employ

the same high-end construction and technical features as the front-zip Apoc series, but with the

zipper located in the traditional back zip position.

Thicker at the core where heat retention is critical and tapered where flexibility matters most, the

Silo 4/3 and 3/2 will keep you warm and comfortable on the water so you can focus on what really

matters: having fun. The 4/3 Silo features an interior Poly Fleece lining on the chest and side panels

while the 3/2 version does not.

features all of the same high-end materials and construction as Ride Engine’s men’s suits, but with

an attractive splash of color and style to set it apart. The Elara’s easy-entry back zip design comes

in two thicknesses, 4/3 and 3/2, with both thickest at the core and tapered at the extremities to

Both versions feature an interior liner of plush Poly Fleece to help retain body heat and minimize

water absorption. The 4/3 is extensively lined with this material, in the front and back core and the

entire midsection, while the 3/2 is lined exclusively in the front chest panel for core warmth.

Form and function fuse with Ride Engine’s Rover Back Pack. This

simplistic yet stylish bag has a volume of 26 litres- an ideal size

for casual day use- and includes crowd-pleasing features like a

padded laptop sleeve, hidden stash pocket, fleece-lined sunglass

sleeve and multiple zipper compartments.

Ideal for quick overnight adventures or as a supplemental bag for

larger trips, the Rover Roller is a compact and streamline bag that

you can stuff full of necessities and wheel along wherever your

journeys may take you. The Rover Roller is an ideal size and shape

for carry-on airport luggage and features a lock-out telescoping

roller handle, durable dual wheels, top and side carry handles,

reinforced material in key areas, two exterior zipper compartments

and one large interior compartment.

With a volume of 110 liters, the Rover Roller Large is designed for

travelers who need as much room as possible but without the extra

length and bulk of our Tactical Trolley board bag. The Rover Roller

features a split design with one large zip in the middle that opens

the bag into two compartments and zip-around mesh dividers

keeping the two separate. Compression straps around the outside

help reduce bulk and reinforce the zipper closure when the bag

is stuffed full and a lock-out telescoping roller handle and durable

dual wheels make negotiating busy sidewalks, airports and hotel

lobbies a breeze.
