6. “Sillys in the Flowers”Artist: Ann PhillipsAs a self-taught Birmingham-based artist, Ann‘s work reflects her passion for color and the ener-gy that is created from its unique lapping and overlapping of layers. The vivid use of color to create mood is reflected in many of Ann’s piec-es. She uses a variety of techniques for a cer-tain look to her paintings. Although she paints a wide variety of subject matter, she favors land-scapes and gardens because she is happiest when painting outdoors. Whether she is work-ing with a still life or landscape, Ann is always fascinated by texture, form, and color which she uses in expressing how she feels about what she

is seeing. She does not limit herself in what she paints or how she might interpret what she sees. This freedom allows her work to move from representational to minimalist to abstraction.Presenter: Kim Dillenbeck

12. Week in Loudun, FranceThe ‘Maison Cornay’ probably dates back to the early beginnings of the city and it was the home of the missionary Jean-Charles Cornay, who was made a saint by the Catholic church for being made a martyr in Vietnam in the early 19th century. After 6 years of painstaking restoration under the supervision of an architect from the French ‘Historical Monuments Department’, the house is now replete with all of the modern amenities that anyone could hope for, all the while respecting the historical features of the property. With 6 bedrooms (3 king size beds and 3 queen size beds), 6 and a half bathrooms, 2 working kitchens, 2 large flat screen TV’s, 3 washers and 3 dryers, and under floor heating and air-conditioning throughout, this house can welcome up to 14 people in a very comfortable fashion. A large inner courtyard with a 200 year old palm tree in the middle can seat up to 30 people. There is night lighting as well in the courtyard.

This is a wonderful property to use as a base for visiting the vast num-ber of castles, fine properties and tourist attractions in the region and the adjoining Loire Valley area. The renowned Abbaye of Fontevrault is not far, nor are the towns of Saumur and Poitier. Whichever direction you head in, there are fabulous sites to be seen and great gastronomic experiences to be had. Since you have everything on site for fine din-ing, however, you may simply choose to buy fresh produce at one of the many outdoor morning markets that take place in towns throughout France. While you are preparing your gourmet feasts, your children can entertain themselves up in the ‘recreation room’, with a large television and DVD library of English language films. The house even has a hand-icap accessible bedroom and bathroom. There are not many ancient properties in France that have been restored to such a high level of modern comfort. Medieval stone houses can be charming to look at but miserable to live in due to the thick stone walls and the cold that seeps into your bones. Here, you can enjoy going back in time while living in modern day comfort!*1 week- Saturday to Saturday. Must be used in Spring of 2017.Loudun is a 3 hour drive from ParisAirfare not included.Donated by: Liz and Billy Cornay

19. “My Dog, Bones” Internationally acclaimed sculptor Frank Fleming has pro-duced an amazing body of work over the past four de-cades that continues to attract and excite museums, collec-tors, and the public alike. Growing up on a farm in rural Bear Creek, Alabama during the 1940’s, Frank Fleming was immersed in nature at a very early age. Having a speech impediment as a child, he chose not to speak until he was about eight years old, instead building a close bond with nature. This unique connection remains an important creative force throughout Fleming’s art and life. Fleming is an artistic genius whose love of nature and mankind comes alive with his unique talent, whimsical insight, and craftsmanship. This exquisite bronze sculpture depicts Bones, Fleming’s beloved black and white rescued mutt who was his constant companion for fourteen years. He specially saved this piece for Hand in Paw, and said that whoever takes it home tonight “will get a piece of his heart.”Donated by: Frank Fleming
