Welcome…..
It was 25 years ago that after considerable discussion THE PICK OF THE CROP BULL SALE was established. Hilbert Van Ankum, James/Joan McKinlay, Brian Pogue and myself had met numerous times and discussed selling bulls as a group, and each with different breed makeup, hence the all breed bull sale, THE PICK OF THE CROP was established. The name was not instant by any means and one day James calls me and says that Joan had come up with "PICK OF THE CROP ", and it immediately satisfied all. Our 1st sale held at Carson's in the old auction facility, 4th Saturday in March, as has always been for 25 year, the bleachers, seats, were packed, standing room only. Hilbert and James consigned their Simmentals, us at Liahn Farms consigned our Blondes and crossbreds. It all started right there and who would have known it has gone on for 25 years. Lets not forget David Carson and his staff, many have contributed for the 25 years also. That 1st sale, in 1992, well remembered for the Van Ankum bull that sold to Francis and Paul Walsh/Peterborough for $10500. Now there was a buzz for a time after this first PICK OF THE CROP! Yes, for 25 years, near 1000 bulls, all with performance evaluations, all with complete stats. The offering has continued to present some of the highest performance bulls anywhere, in any sale. For sure, there is a loyal group of producers that desire all and complete data, these are the producers that buy bulls at PICK OF THE CROP, and as of lately known as 'THE PIC BULL SALE'! 25 YEARS! Jack The BULL GUY / JACK MCCOUBREY

TAMBRI FARMS
We run a herd of 50 purebred Black Angus cows in the heart of Bruce County near Paisley. We continually strive to produce livestock that are hardworking, efficient and sound. We breed our cows to moderate framed, moderate birth weight and good carcass bulls. Our cows must have good udders, strong feet and legs and great temperament to stay on the farm. Only the best male calves from proven cows are kept as bulls and put on Bio test. TAMBRI FARMS TAMMI AND BRIAN RIBEY 2500 BRUCE RD 11, R.R.#5 PAISLEY, ON N0G 2N0 [email protected]

This bull has been a standout since he was born! He is a nice balance of superior type, great performance on test and good carcass data. On Zoetis 50K testing he is in the top 22% for DMI for North America and his Canadian Angus EPD’s have him in the top 30% for all traits! His sire Sankey’s Justified combines a great show career and good EPDs. He was Grand Champion Bull at all the major shows in the USA including the Denver Show. His mother is a big volume cow with a great udder and lots of milk. This bull should give you both stout steers and great momma cows.

Big frame, big weight, big scrotal…this equals a BIG payday at WW especially when he has posted big numbers throughout test and then ended test at 1699 lbs! 3C’s dam is a heavy milker with an excellent udder structure and teats which will show in the females produced by First Line Unanimous 3C if you keep them down the road.

This bull is the mating of one of the smaller bulls, Pioneer 7301, with near perfect phenotype to the largest frame cow in our herd. First Line Pioneer 17C combines these two into a very nice middle of the road bull with good numbers. Sandy Reid of Reidholm Angus/RK Syndicate purchased First Line Miss World 26U’s first bull, FLA 4Z, before the BIO Test was complete because of the numbers he was putting up. First Line Unanimous 12B is a bull that we thought enough of last year to use on our own heifers and cows but we have another yearling bull by Visions Unanimous that we are going to use this spring. There is a lot of good in this two year old that the beef industry needs to utilize and someone will certainly benefit from using this powerhouse of a herdsire and breed 40+ cows to.

LANGSTAFF CHAROLAIS
Kelly started in the Polled Charolais business in 1996 and since then it has become a family ordeal with 3 generations participating. Currently we manage a cow/calf operation of 35 Purebred Charolais cows, which consists of mainly moderate framed females that are able to produce year after year with little assistance when it comes to calving or milking. With an independently owned construction business, animals that require very little maintenance is of paramount concern when it comes to culling each year. Our bull program has been building on itself for years because of our extremely high standards for selecting herd sires as well as artificial influences. We are very proud of the direction that we have taken. Customer satisfaction is extremely important to us as it is our desire to become a staple in the herd sire business. This requires our bulls to sell to please 100% of time. We currently have semen for sale from two of our Homozygous Polled Herd Sires; JWX Fifty Shades 706Z (White) and JWX Three Peet 73X (Dark Red). She is an easier keeper with lots of milk. His sire, JWX Three Peet 73X, speaks for himself. PROBULL STOCK FARM
Here at PROBULL STOCK FARM, we make a real effort not to breed a purebred animal. We started this way back in the early 90'z and have achieved a base herd that excels in all the economically important traits, MULTI-GENERATION COMPOSITES. We base our composite breeding program on both Red and Black Angus and also Red and Black Simmental, but we need Purebreds to work our program.
Our strategy of stacking selected genetics on top of selected genetics has resulted in cattle that are constant in all traits, and seemingly, fertility is the first thing to excel and we select hard for that, udders, temperament, feet and ease of keeping have been achieved through our selection process. Multi-generation composites, we've done it many a time, and the result is consistency of type, calving ease, big on performance and growth, calf birth vigour and being aggressive at the feed bunk. They can't live if they don't get up and suck and they sure cannot gain if they don't know how to stand at the feed bunk, our cattle possess these special traits.
This year we sent 6 bulls on BIO Bull Evaluation, on delivery they weighed within 80 lbs of each other, coming off test, 5 of these bulls, 3 of which are 1/2-3/4 brothers, weighed 1585 to 1635, 50 lbs between them. Amazing that after 128 days! Multi-generation of selection for performance and for years, 50 lbs between these 5 bulls, AMAZING!
On the female side, this past year we sold 10 bred heifers, Heart of the Herd kind!
Quite amazing, they all calved within 21 days , they all calved unassisted, they'll breed back quick, just like their Mama'zzzz, packed with fertility.

We are consigning a group of bulls this year to PIC Bull Sale that we feel are right for the times and excel in performance and carcass traits. At the same time we are still offering a variety of black and red Simmental bulls. Our cows are not pampered and have to do it on their own to make the cut. These bulls are out of mothers that milk, wean off heavy calves or they wouldn’t be in our herd. We have multi generations of actual ultrasound data to ensure consistency of the carcass data and performance is locked in. Our herdsires are selected based on Simmental breed association EPD’s, BIO EPD’s and BIO Across Breed Comparison (ABC) data. We have carcass data on all our walking sire and most of our cows to help us make breeding decisions. It will also be available on each bull and we suggest that you review this information along with breed data to have a clear picture of what our bull will do in your herd. If you have any question to help with your decisions making, please call us at 519-923-9188 or send an email with any questions to [email protected] Thank you for your interest.

When you breed your best baldie cow to a black baldie bull you are happy to see a white face coming at you. This guy didn’t quite there as you can see. He is a maternal brother to the high selling bull at last year’s sale and just as good individual. Don’t discount him for his chrome package as all red meat in the meat stores is red regardless the colour of the hide. This calf will sire those top grading steers whether black, red or white cows and there is a very high chance his excess white will not carry through.
