Model facilities of Health and Wellness should be congratulated and recognized. I recently stayed at a wonderful facility that deserves to be in the spotlight. Thank you Vista Medical Center East, for being a diamond in our community. Their sincerity and quick responses made my recent stay comfortable. Everyone was so nice and took such great care of me. For taking good care of me, I would like to personally thank Barb Martin, CEO of Vista and her staff: ER Doctor - Dr. Kenji Oyasu and ER Nurse - Nicole Moore. The superb round the clock support from Registered Nurses; Kyle, Nicole, Kiran, Kelsey, Bernice, Paolo, Virgie, Ivonne, Joe, Pangela and Rachel. PCT's; Tiesha, Amanda, Betty, Sybil, Sam, Dorothy, Todd, Ashley and Aya. Bravo to the quick response from the paramedics, under the direction of Chief George Bridges Jr. Vista is located in the heart of Waukegan Township and provides quick access to specialty care. Thank you for all you do.
Dorothy Flament leads our Euchre games each week. She has been a participant of
Park Place for the past 18 years and is the mother of three children, 2 boys and 1 girl.

Topic: Safe on the Road
Presenter: AARP – Terri Worman, Advocacy & Outreach
Staying independent for many of us means driving our car around town and on the highway. Getting
to our destination also means getting there safely – no matter the weather, road conditions,
distractions, or others sharing the road. Get tips on how to be sure your car is ready to go and you
are prepared for whatever comes your way!
Tuesday, March 15 - 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
Topic: Healthy Intimacy For Seniors
Presenter: Jeanette Keyes
As we age, we can get into trouble when we try to make today the same as it was yesterday. For an
aging population, sexuality bring new adventures, problems and possibilities. When we are open to
experience our own sensuality without shame or judgment, and when we no longer fall victim to
inaccurate stereotypes, all sorts of possibilities open up for us.

Topic: The Truth About Bed Bugs
Presenter: Uriel Pest Control – Alex Soto, CEO
Bedbugs are parasitic insects of the cimicid family that feed exclusively on blood. Cimex lectularius,
the common bed bug, is the best known, as it prefers to feed on humans. Bedbugs are resourceful
and opportunistic. Their bites often occur at night, because the insects are nocturnal, with peak
activity just before dawn. This workshop will help you rid your home of these pesky home invaders.

Presentation Description: Veterans are at an increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease. This program will
educate veterans about those risks, what they can do to manage their risks and how to help other
veterans. Traumatic experiences and head injuries are common among our nation’s veterans. This
can take a toll on the brain and increase the likely hood that they will develop a brain-related disease.
Sadly many vets are unaware. Open to the public. Subject matter for veterans and their family
members.

Topic: Growing Your Own Garden
Presenter: Beacon Place – Gene Sekel, Program Manager
Learning what to plant in a garden with vegetables, and how to tend them for the best harvest, is
probably easier than you think. Planting a garden that includes vegetables and flowers means you've
combined natural companions, and that can turn a potential eyesore into an attractive landscape

Thousands More Eligible for SNAP Benefits
In addition to a string of laws and amendments going into effect at
the start of the New Year, the SNAP gross income limit in Illinois
increased from 130 percent to 165 percent of the federal poverty
level. This means an estimated 40,000 low-income working families
will be eligible for SNAP benefits. SNAP is a federal program that
combats food insecurity and poverty, allowing participants to spend
money on nutritionally valued food that they wouldn’t have the
chance to purchase without the program. To enroll in SNAP, make
an appointment to visit our Access Office at Park Place 847-244-
9242, or [email protected].
Did you know?
> In response to Illinois’ current budget impasse, the
Illinois Secretary of State is no longer mailing license
plate renewal notices to Illinois drivers. Failure to
renew ones license plate on time can leave drivers
with a $20 late fee or a $120 traffic ticket should they
be pulled over with expired plates. Visit
www.states.aarp.org for more information.
> You no longer need to dial one (1) before
completing a phone call.
> Due to the state’s budget situation, Illinois EPA
has suspended the mailing of vehicle emissions test
notices. Vehicle owners whose license plates expire
at the end of March 2016 will be the first motorists
who will not receive the vehicle emissions test notices.
As a result, beginning March 1st, the Secretary of
State (SOS) will allow motorists to renew vehicle
registration before the required vehicle emissions
testing. However, the obligation for vehicle emissions
testing remains. To determine whether a vehicle is
required to undergo testing, you may contact the
Illinois EPA’s emissions testing hotline at 847-758-
3400 or 800-635-2380.
