MODEL CONCEPT As the market for utility vehicles continues to expand and evolve, customers are using MULE’s for an ever-growing variety of applications ranging from pure utility to leisure. The MULE 600 perfectly suits market needs for a lightweight, compact utility vehicle capable of filling a variety of roles.

The design concept for the MULE 600 is simple and to the point: compact, comfortable, and classy. To achieve these goals, Kawasaki took some of the best technology from Kawasaki MULE’s and ATV’s, and then wrapped their creations in curvaceous “high-volume” bodywork.

The 401cc engine provides plenty of power allowing the MULE 600 to run alongside the MULE 4010 series models with the same governed top speed of 40 km/h.

To enhance the MULE 600’s off-road capability, the rugged steel-tube chassis comes equipped with MacPherson strut front suspension like that on the MULE 4010 series models, rear differential lock, and numerous skid-plates. With 2WD and 22” tires let the MULE 600 go where others fear to tread.

In terms of design, the 600 is just as impressive, thanks to “high-volume” styling which gives it a more elegant, more voluminous appearance and feel. One look will tell customers that this stylish machine can perform many other roles in addition to that of utility workhorse.

For work, play, and everything in between, the MULE 600 offers more value and performance for the money than any other machine in the category.

Chassis

* Independent MacPherson strut-type front suspension allows eachwheel to track over uneven ground for maximum traction withlight steering effort. Minimal wheel camber change throughout thesuspension stroke contributes to stable handling.

* MacPherson strut design provides more foot room for the driver andpassenger.

* Rear unit swing axle suspension design features coil-over shockswith stepped preload adjustment.

Modern styling gives the MULE 600 a rugged appearance. Curved surfaces and lines contribute to a high-class design and improved shape and fit of various parts give a high-quality finish. Elegantly styled fenders and bodywork strike a perfect balance between rugged functionality and great looks. Automotive-style instrument panel also contributes to the high-class image.

* Rack-and-pinion steering provides precise, easy handling, and atight turning radius. Ackerman steering geometry reduces tire wear.

* Front tread dimension of 1051mm ensures easy loadingbetween the wheel wells of pick-up beds.

* Four wheel, auto-adjusting, hydraulic drum brakes offer the safety ofautomotive style separation for front/rear brake fluid.

* Front and rear brake drum seals are triple-lipped for water and mudresistance.

* Cable operated parking brake works on both rear wheels.

EngineThe MULE 600 is powered by a 401cc, 4-stroke, OHV, fan air-cooled engine. Simple, compact, lightweight, and durable, the engine is extremely reliable.

* U.S. produced engine is the FJ400 engine sourced from the highlyrespected Small Engines division of Kawasaki.

* Overhead valves designed for efficient running and good fueleconomy, are durable, and operate quietly.

* Highly efficient carburetor delivers excellent fuel economy.

TransmissionThe MULE 600 with a belt-driven automatic transmission gives the 600 2x4 excellent off-road riding capability.

* To ease cold starting, a choke cam holds the throttle open 20%when full choke is applied.

* A cyclone-airflow-type air cleaner is fed via a snorkel intake routedthrough the overhead cab frame providing the engine with a steadysupply of clean air, even in dusty conditions.

* Crankcase breather routes blow-by back to the intake pipe forcleaner emissions.

* Engine can be started in gear if the brake is applied – just likeKawasaki’s ATV and Teryx models.

* Sensor mounted in the engine crankcase monitors oil temperature towarn the driver of overheating.

* Gear driven engine balancer controls engine vibration.

* Tough, KVF360~750 style transmission features fewer parts and asingle shift fork for smooth operation when shifting.

* Reverse is accomplished by heavy-duty, multi-linkplate chain deletingthe need for an additional reverse idler shaft.

* Transmission mounted governor smoothly limits maximum vehiclespeed to 40 kph (25 mph) by adjusting throttle opening. Full enginepower is available until the vehicle approaches top governed speed.

* Input shaft mounting also allows for engine speed governing – evenin neutral.

* CVT offers extremely wide operating ratios for a variety of drivingconditions.

* All sheave surfaces are high pressure cast of high silicone contentaluminum for best durability.

* High performance double cog belt offers very long service life.

* Drive CVT uses four ramp weights and adjustable spider buttonsfor smooth operation. Many service parts (buttons, bushings) arecommon with the KVF models.

CVTCompact CVT (similar to KVF360~750 models but smaller) developed specifically for the MULE 600 offers wide ratios, high performance and added serviceability.

* Cooling fan incorporated into the drive fixed sheave draws filtered airfrom the top of the cab frame.

* Driven CVT Sheave width (for belt deflection) can be adjustedwithout disassembly.

* Changing different thickness adjustment washers under two externaladjustment bolts allows very fine control of the driven sheave widthfor best belt adjustment. Install thicker adjustment washers as thebelt wears.

* Internal thrust washer evenly distributes the adjustment force withinthe driven CVT housing.

* CVT cover with reusable seal offers wet riding performance notpossible with some competitors’ offerings.

* Internal baffle in the outer CVT cover helps to evacuate any water ordebris that may make its way into the cover.

Final DriveRear differential lock allows the rear wheels to be locked for maximum traction in mud or snow. Ground disturbance is minimized when unlocked.
