Your support makes our impact possible - thank you!
Chicago Methodist Senior Services specializes in helping people have good days. By getting to know residents on a personal level we can deliver our best.
It’s a good day when residents and staff collaborate.
Adrien, Wesley Place
Adrien’s smile lights up the room. Despite battling health challenges, her positive attitude and desire to help those in need persists. That’s why she’s partnering with CMSS art therapist Jenn Ross to develop a new program, Creative Community Connections. It’s based on the idea of Mail Art and designed to combat feelings of isolation, depression and anxiety to help restore a sense of purpose in participants. We’re excited to see the impact this collaboration will have in the lives of people in our neighborhood.
It’s a good day when volunteers help enrich lives.
Marcy, Covenant Home of Chicago
Marcy has always been passionate about lifelong learning, but recently, getting to college level classes has become challenging for her. Marcy felt frustrated and sad and prayed for a solution. Shortly after, Mark, an associate professor of history of art and architecture at DePaul, became a volunteer at CMSS and started an art history class at Covenant Home. Now, Marcy can get the academic experience she craves right at home! Marcy says that Mark is the answer to her prayers and the rest is history.
It’s a good day when staff treat your family like their own.
Tim, Hartwell Place
Earlier this year, Tim’s health and memory began to decline rapidly. Art seemed to both calm and stimulate him, so his son signed him up for CMSS’ newest art therapy program Bringing Art to Life. On the day of the program’s kickoff event, Tim was not having a good day. He didn’t want to leave his room. Knowing how much Tim would enjoy the event, the staff patiently and lovingly convinced him to get ready and give it a try. They gave him a shave and got him dressed so he could meet White Sox pitcher David Robertson and participate in the art therapy program. Despite his initial resistance, Tim was so happy at the event and so proud of the art he created.
Sadly, three days later, Tim passed away. CMSS staff were able to share photos and memories of Tim’s experience with his family, and give them the gift of knowing that he was having good days even at the end of his life.
It’s a good day when everyone who cares for you knows your story.
