General Information Residential (Commercial Information on the last page)

Recycling: All materials must be placed curbside after 7 p.m. on the nightbefore collection date in residential areas. Do not place items in plastic bags.

Comingled Items: Glass: only food and beverage containers made ofunbroken clear, brown or green glass. Metal Containers: food and beveragecontainers, clean aluminum foil and trays, and empty aerosol cans. Plastics:Plastic containers (codes 1-7 printed on containers) commonly used for food,beverage, detergents and shampoos.

All comingled items should be rinsed, lids removed then combined in one binor more. Metal lids can be placed in the bin with comingled items and plasticlids should be placed your regular garbage.

Paper Items: Newspapers, outdated phone books, paperback and hardcover

books (covers removed), magazines, junk mail, brochures, catalogs,advertisements, letters and envelopes, cereal, tissue, and clean pizza boxes.Place curbside in a bin, brown paper bag or small corrugated cardboard box.Do not bundle with cord, twine or rope, or put in plastic bags.

Corrugated Cardboard and Brown Paper Bags: Remove excessive amounts ofadhesive tape, tie in bundles or break down and box. Do not place in plasticbags.

You may combine all paper items for pick-up. Please remember not to tie

anything in bundles except for corrugated cardboard and brown paper bags.Do not place items in plastic bags. Blue recycle bags are not accepted at theMunicipal Recycling Facility.

Items Not Accepted:

Light Bulbs, kitchenware, crystal, mirrors and windows, paint cans, pesticidecontainers, oil cans, five gallon pails, foam plastic, plastic bags and flowerpots.

Any container containing potentially hazardous chemicals.

Waxed cardboard and orange juice containers. No Styrofoam or plasticpacking materials.

Household Garbage: Must be placed in container by 6:30 a.m. on pick up day.All household waste, other than recyclable waste and organic waste, whichis compactible and which can be put into a bag and placed in a 32 or 33gallon container.

Items not Accepted in Household Garbage: Recyclables, householdhazardous wastes, large items qualifying for bulk pickup.

Bulk Rubbish: All materials must be placed curbside after 7p.m. on the nightbefore the collection date in residential areas. Defined as all items that youwould not usually discard in your household garbage. These items usuallyinclude such things as furniture and/or large toys; carpets (must be cut in 3sections, rolled and tied). These items must be placed curbside for pick upbut not before 7p.m. the night before.

Items not Accepted in Bulk Rubbish: Car Batteries, car tires, glass, buildingmaterials, debris from construction work, bath tubs, sinks, toilets, treestumps, logs, concrete, cement, asphalt, rocks and dirt. Television andcomputer monitors (See below).

Televisions and Computer Monitors: These items contain CRT (Cathode RayTubes) that contain lead and are no longer acceptable at the landfill. Pleasecall Village Hall to arrange for a pick up at 738-2015.

Covered Electronic Equipment: (see website under sanitation for complete

list and details of proper disposal); includes microwaves, toaster ovens,computer peripherals, vcrs, dvd players, digital converter boxes, digitalvideo recorders, cable or satellite receivers, electronic or video gameconsoles.

Bulk Metal- Contact R & S Waste Services at 914-231-0171 [email protected] any questions or to arrange for apickup. Defined as most metal items that you would normally discard of inyour trash collection. Some of these items include: dishwashers, washingmachines, dryers, iron fencing, refrigerators and air conditioners (Freonremoved and certified), stoves, hot water heaters, metal and iron piping,metal file cabinets and shelving. Refrigerator doors must be removed.

Organic Waste: April 1 through December 15-All organic must be placedcurbside after 7 p.m. on the night before collection date on specified daysonly. April 1-October 9, Area A & B-Wednesday, October 15-December 15-Area A & B- Monday through Friday. Organic defined as all grass clippings,flowers, leaves, brush, small branches and twigs must be put in either abiodegradable paper bag or an open 30-35 gallon container. Garbage cannotbe mixed in with organic waste. All bags and containers must be placed atcurbside for pick up on specified days only. Branches should be in 3 lengths

bundled and tied. Christmas trees are picked up by the DPW at the curbfrom Dec. 26th to January 31stonly. No organic pick up between Dec.15 andMarch 15. Items must be held.

Items not Accepted with Organic: Garbage, logs, tree stumps, pumpkins andlarge tree branches.

Spring and Fall Leaf Collection: Leaves OnlyAll loose leaves are to be placed curbside between March 15 and April 30 andagain between October 15 and December 15. The Village DPW picks up every

day and works their way around the Village picking up a section at a time ona revolving basis. No pick up after Dec.15. After Dec. 15 items must be helduntil loose leaf pick up begins again on March 15. Do not mix twigs,

branches, rubbish or any other materials in the leaf piles as it contaminatesthe piles and they will not be accepted at the organic waste site. See abovefor all other organic materials.

Household Hazardous Waste: Hazardous household chemicals should neverbe thrown away with your regular garbage or poured into the drain. Formore information about how to dispose of these chemicals, including drop

off locations and questions contact the Westchester County HouseholdChemical Info line at 914-813-5425.

Qualifying items are: bleaches, leftover enamels, varnishes, stains,swimming pool chemicals, fire starting liquids or kerosene, pesticides, carbatteries, used car tires (max 10), waxes and polishes, photographicchemicals, gasoline, wood preservatives. Radiological Medical Waste shouldNOT be disposed of with garbage. These items should be returned to thehospital or health care facility where you or your pet was treated for properdisposal.

Propane tanks must be disposed of by the individual homeowner.

Commercial Garbage and Recycling: (including homes and apartments onFifth, and apartments on Wolfs and Lincoln Avenues).All commercial establishments have garbage pick-up on Monday, Wednesdayand Friday (commercial establishments do not have bulk rubbish/trash pick-up. Businesses must notify the police when they leave trash rubbish curbsidefor a private carter to collect.) If a holiday falls within the week, the pick-updays are shifted one day. For example: If a holiday falls on a Monday, thepick-ups for that week are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. If a holiday fallson a Friday, the pickups that week are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.A limit of 3 (30) gallon containers per pick-up applies to all establishments.Garbage and Recycling must be inside a container and placed curbside

between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.(strictly enforced) on the days of collection.

Nothing is to be left out after 11 a.m. Commercial establishments mustfollow the recycling separation guidelines. Commercial corrugated cardboardis collected from all merchants on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Co-mingled andpaper recycling is collected on Thursday.
