The mission of Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation is to ensure the excel-lence as well as the continuance of Catholic elementary schools on Long Island by increasing awareness and by providing scholarship and program funding for the needs of students and schools.

In January 2004, Bishop William F. Murphy and retired Superinten-dent of Schools, Sister Joanne Callahan, became increasingly concerned about the costs and sustainability of Catholic elementary schools on Long Island. They enlisted a committee to study the challenges facing the schools. In an-swering the call to action to reverse the declining numbers of students in the Catholic elementary schools across Long Island, Tomorrow’s Hope Founda-tion was established in September 2005 as a tax-exempt, non-for-profit public charity. Lewis S. Ranieri was appointed by Bishop Murphy to chair the foun-dation. As chairman, Mr. Ranieri put together a prominent board of profes-sionals, business leaders and diocesan administration. A decade later, there are 47 thriving elementary schools in our diocese educating more than 17,000 students. Parents seeking tuition assistance for their children now have a place to rely on for support. Over the past ten years the Foundation has provided close to $20 million in scholarship and school aid. On behalf of Tomorrow’s Hope, we look forward to continuing our service in the next decade to come.
