An article in the Economist of January 2015 read as follows “In some respects it is no surprise that Africa has become such a popular destination for business investment. It certainly needs more capital an extra $90 billion a year for infrastructure alone, the World Bank reckons. Consumer demand is growing, and industries are being liberalised. A few years ago people would ask “Why the hell are you in Africa?” says Robert van Zwieten of EMPEA, an industry body. Now they ask “Why the hell aren’t you?”
The Africa Rising story has been well documented with many citing how many of the fastest growing economies are in Africa and how the continent is the last growth frontier, the lions are finally rising taking over from the Tigers as the Gem of Global investing. Still Africa remains an enigma for most investors and there is need for greater understanding of its Landscape and opportunity
A lot of the excitement about Africa has been focused on Sub-Sahara Africa (SSA) with the most interest being on Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and latterly La Cote d’ Ivoire. SSA obviously encapsulates the best of what the next genera-tion of emerging markets have to offer in terms of potential returns over the long-term. .At the 2016 Global Business Roundtable World Congress, The Pan African Banking Giant Ecobank the largest bank in Africa by geographic pres-ence presents a Roundtable with a Focus on “THe PROMiSe OF inVeSTinG in MiDDLe AFRiCA”. Ecobank refers to Middle Africa as that area of SSA South of the Sahara Desert and North of South Africa. With the impressive performance credentials of being a Top 4 Bank and a fast growing Asset Manager in most of the territories where it has a presence, Eco-bank is the ideal candidate to be in the forefront of leading the said discussion.
Join us on the 27th of April 2016 as we welcome, Mr. Kisseih Antonio from Eco-bank Capital, Ms Zeena Patel from Investment Solutions SA, Mr Warren Thomp-son from Summit PE in Mauritius, Mr Smit Crouse from IFC and other speakers as they discuss and share ideas on the topic.

Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are an intergovernmental set 17 aspirational Goals with 169 targets. The Goals are con-tained in paragraph 54 United Nations Resolution A/RES/70/1 of 25 September 2015. The Resolution is a broader intergovernmental agreement that, while act-ing as the Post 2015 Development Agenda (successor to the Millennium De-velopment Goals), builds on the Principles agreed upon under Resolution A/RES/66/288, popularly known as The Future We Want.
The history of the SDGs can be traced to 1972 when governments met under the auspices of the United Nations Human and Environment Conference, to consider the rights of the human family to a healthy and productive environ-ment.[8] It was not until 1983 that the United Nations agreed to create the World Commission on Environment and Development as an independent body of the UN. In 1992 the first UN conference on Environment and Development was held in Rio. It was here that the first agenda for Environment and Development was developed and adopted, also known as Agenda 21. Twenty years later, a resolu-tion, known as The Future We Want was reached by member states. Among the key themes agreed on were on poverty eradication, energy, water and sanita-tion, health, and human settlement.
At the 2016 Global Business Roundtable Congress The DBSA will host a Round-table on the iMPLeMenTATiOn OF SUSTAinABLe DeVeLOPMenT GOALS AnD inVeSTMenT OPPORTUniTieS FOR FDiS. It is evident that as we pursue the attainment of the 17 Goals there will be challenges and opportunities and these are the issues that this roundtable will seek to articulate. The session will also focus on creating awareness on the SDGs and also articu-lating to stakeholders the strides that have been made to date on the same goals.
The Roundtable will be held on the 28th of April 2016 between 14h00 and 16h00 in the Wanderers Sports Club Boundary Room. Amongst our Panellists we will host DBSA REP, UN REP, Mr Siphamandla Zondi Head of the Institute of Global Dialogue, Ms Felica Sao Transactor: Infrastructure and Real Estate EY, Prof Juli-ana Oyegun Former Director World Bank and will be facilitated by Prince Baba-tunde Akinde from Nigeria.
The roundtable promises to be a Marquee event on the deliberations on Africa’s pursuit of the SDGs.

Many have an ingrained perception of the investment terrain of Zimbabwe as predominantly formed by the rhetoric that has been articulated by the media on a global scale. But Zimbabwe the former breadbasket of Africa holds much promise for investors who are willing to look past the perils and take advantage of first mover advantage.
How have entities such as Delta and Econet continued to flourish and why are most international player opposed to the Government regime not leaving? What are they aware of that most are not?
Dr Nigel Chanakira a Zimbabwean Businessman and a globally recognised en-trepreneur speaks to us on the Investment Climate in Zimbabwe, the opportuni-ties in the country and how to navigate what is perceived as a haven of risk to obtain superior returns in what remains a gem of a nation

Wikipedia states, referring to the Trans African Highway that “The Trans-African Highway network comprises transcontinental road projects in Africa being developed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa(UNECA), the African Development Bank (ADB), and the African Union in conjunction with regional international communities. They aim to promote trade and alleviate poverty in Africa through highway infrastructure development and the manage-ment of road-based trade corridors. The total length of the nine highways in the network is 56,683 km (35,221 mi)”
If the 3 International organisations make a direct correlation between transpor-tation and poverty alleviation, which is also encapsulated in the SDG how signifi-cant, is Transport for the continued narrative of Africa Growing.
The Global Business Roundtable invites you to join us on the 28th of April from 16h00 to 18h00 to join us as we conduct our “Transport in Africa” Roundtable where we will look into the details and issues that pertain to the Transport sector in Africa. We will explore the opportunities and challenges of Road freighting, rail freighting and air haulage with seasoned speakers from across the continent.
