THE VINEYARD The Home Ranch Cuvée is built on a core of clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Home Ranch Vineyard in southwest Sonoma Valley, planted by Sojourn proprietor Craig Haserot in 2002. Tight spacing and immaculate vine training result in evenly ripened grapes with tiny berries and loose clusters. Robust blueberry fruit aromas and big silky tannins distinguish Home Ranch Vineyard wines from most of its Sonoma Valley brethren. WINEMAKER NOTES California experienced a fifth year of severe drought conditions in 2016. The vines responded with fortitude and the vintage was a standout for Cabernet Sauvignon in Sonoma Valley, oering an intensity of flavor and depth of concentration that harnessed the full potential of the region. Moderate summer temperatures allowed sugar levels and flavor development to progress slowly and evenly. A few brief heat spikes gave way to a cooler than normal August, allowing for longer hang times without rapid sugar accumulation. The Home Ranch Vineyard yielded loose closers with small berries in 2016, resulting in robust flavors and plush tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon from a neighboring vineyard in southern Sonoma Valley was blended in, resulting in a complex cuvée. The wine was aged for 20 months in 60% new French oak barrels from top coopers Darnajou, Taransaud and Bel Air.
