JUNEGRADUATE FELLOWSHIP

Nick Hartigan, a fifth-year doctoral student at the

University of Michigan, completed research residency in

the Museum Archives this summer.

Hartigan's residency is part of a newly established

program at the university, the Fredericks-Follett-

Roethke Graduate Fellowship in the Arts & Humanities,

which invites scholars to study the art and literature of

these three renowned figures.

adult art camp, took place from June

13 to 17. Sanford Buchalter taught a

sculpture workshop; Sally Giroux

taught the art of meditation; Phil

Hanson taught photography as

painting; and Howard McLean taught

an introductory watercolor class. Its

AUGUSTMUSEUM APP

Museum staff has been working diligently in collaboration with the SVSU Art

and Computer Science departments to develop a mobile application for the

Museum. The app will provide visitors with more in-depth information about

the museum, its collections, and temporary exhibitions in a fun, easy, and

efficient manner. It should be available for visitors to download on both iOS

and Android devices in early 2017.

MUSEUM RECEIVES NEH PRESERVATION ASSISTANCE GRANT

The Museum received a NEH Preservation Assistance

Grant to support the purchase of data loggers to monitor

temperature and relative humidity in the Museum and its

storage areas. A team of environmental consultants will use

this data to develop conceptual improvement alternatives

of the HVAC systems, controls and building enclosure, in

order to establish appropriate conservation environments

for the collection. The results of this study will identify a

systematic path forward to defining the most effective and

efficient planning and implementation process for long

term improvements and establishment of a high quality

conservation environment for the Museum.
