Message from Pastor Bob:

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

This month I’m devoting my “page” to this years Confirmands. On October 16, the Confirmands were interviewed by the joint Church Council. Each student/Confirmand picked 3 questions out of 30 possible questions and then chose 2 of the 3 to answer and discuss first with their parent(s) present and then with the Council. The Council then asked them some other questions. Finally, the Council unani-mously voted to approve these Confirmands for Confirmation.

Pastor Bob Giese

Here’s some of what those being confirmed this year had to say about themselves.

Braden Foster—First Ogema

Our Lord, we belong to you. We tell you what worries us, and you won’t let us fall. Psalm 55:22 CEV

Braden is now in 8th Grade at Prentice Middle School. His favorite subjects are Math & Science and least favorite are English and Social Studies. His favorite extra-curricular activity is Football. When asked where he would go in the world if it was all expenses paid, he said “Alaska—hunting, be-cause I love to hunt!” What he liked best about the confirmation program was doing skits and acting things out, the raps to help us learn the books of the Bible, and nice in-depth conversations. He said what he liked least was when Pastor Linda left because she was fun to have around. Braden would-n’t add or subtract anything from confirmation program. Now that he’s be-coming an adult member of the congregation he intends to go to church and help with church suppers and VBS. What his faith in Jesus Christ means to Braden: “It means that Jesus will always e there for me, and that I will

spread the word about him.” What membership at First Lutheran Church means to him is “I am going to help others when they need help, and have open arms for everyone.”

Ryan Patrick—First Westboro

Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved. Acts 16:31 RSV

Ryan is in 8th Grade at Rib Lake Middle School this fall. His favorite subject is Math, and his least favorite is Language Arts. His favorite extra-curricular activity is hunting. When asked where he would go in the world if it was all expenses paid, he said “Alaska to hunt moose.” What he liked best about the confirmation program was that the activities. He didn’t like having to go to so many classes . Ryan would add more activities to the program. Now that he’s becoming an adult member of the congregation he intends to go to church and learn more about God and spread the Word. What his faith means to him is that “I go to heaven and that all my sins are forgotten.” What membership at First Lutheran Church means to him is “that I have a place to learn about God.”

Olivia Nehls—First Ogema

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5 NRSV

Olivia is now in 8th Grade at Prentice Middle School. Her favor-ite subject is Science. Her least favorite is English. Her favorite extra-curricular activities are Basketball and Volleyball.. When asked where she would go in the world if it was all expenses paid, she said “Hawaii, because it’s nice in Hawaii.” What she liked best about the confirmation program “that we got to work with all of our friends and learn more about God. She wouldn’t change anything about Confirmation except maybe make it more game-

like. She likes the program the way it is. Now that she’s becom-ing an adult member of the congregation Olivia intends to do the same things she does now: help at church suppers. What her faith means to her is that “It means that no matter how rough my life is going I will always know that someone is watching over me. No matter what is happen-ing in my life, I will always have someone to pray to.” What membership at First Lutheran Church means to her is “I’m officially part of the church so I can help out more. I could maybe be a part of the council or be one of the people that brings Communion to people that can’t make it to church.”

Emily Rodman—First Westboro

Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved. Acts 16:31 RSV

Emily is now in 7th Grade at Rib Lake Middle School. Her favorite subject is Phy Ed, and least favorite is Social Studies. Her favorite extra-curricular activities are Basketball, Softball, and Volleyball. When asked where she would go in the world if it was all expenses paid, she said “Japan, I think it would be a fun and cool experience.” What she liked best about the confirmation program was “having all four churches com-bined because I met a lot of new people.” She said she didn’t like having to answer a whole bunch of questions. Emily would have more raps and stuff to make kids remmber some more information. Now that she’s becoming an adult member of the congregation she plans to keep going to church and help around at church supers and those types of things.. What her faith means to her is ““My faith in Jesus Christ means to be grateful for what you have and to love everyone around you.

You should always say please and thank you.” What membership at First Lutheran Church means to her is “I think of the people at church as family. Also it is fun to talk to people and just know what is going on.”

Isaac Raab—First Ogema

...I raised you up or this very purpose, that I might display my power in you ad that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. Romans 9:17 NIV

Isaac is now in 7th Grade at Prentice Middle School. His favorite subjects are Math, Phy Ed, and Spanish. He has no least favorite classes. His favorite extra-curricular activities are basketball, base-ball, hunting, and reading. When asked where he would go in the world if it was all expenses paid, he said “all of the MLB ballparks, because I really love the sport of baseball.” What he liked best about the confirmation program were “the electives because we always did very fun things.” He said there was “nothing” he liked least “because (the activities) were all interesting and fun.” He likes Con-firmation just the way it is. Now that he’s becoming an adult mem-ber of the congregation he intends to continue with helping and at-tending worship services and other functions. What his faith in Jesus Christ means to Isaac: “Having faith in Jesus Christ means that I will have my sins forgiven and I will have eternal life in heaven.” ” What membership at First Lutheran Church means to him is “that I will be fully part of this church family where God is the head and I can be a worker for Jesus.”

Wow! This is a truly amazing group of confirmands. Make sure you support them in their growing faith and affirmation of faith every chance you get. This year Confirmation was on Sunday, October 30 at both congregations.

Christmas Choir 2016!

Greetings! In December of

2014, members from four

different Lutheran Churches

joined together to create a

Community Christmas Choir.

We performed a wonderful

Christmas cantata sharing the story of Jesus’ birth.

This year, you’re welcome to join us! Practices will

be held at 2 p.m. on Sundays at First Lutheran

Church, in Ogema. Beginning on October 30th.

(Practice times may alternate between 2 p.m. and

4 p.m., depending on when the Packers play!) This

year, I would like to get members from the sur-

rounding churches/communities involved! A per-

formance will be held on Saturday, December

17th, at First Lutheran Church in Ogema. Join us as we perform, “Bethlehem Morning.” If you are inter-

ested in singing, please contact Tyler Andreae by

emailing him at [email protected] or calling at

715.820.2613.
