!Audition Fee is $20 payable to: Heritage High School

!Eligibility: Incoming 10 - 12 Grade Students enrolled in a music class in school; teacher must be a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

!Should you win the audition to participate in the AVGE, you will be required to pay a fee of approximately $220 to cover food and lodging. Some school districts may give financial assistance for this event. You are encouraged to discuss this ahead of time with your teacher and administrators.

Alan  Hirsh  -‐‑  Conductor  for  the  2015  AVGE  Alan  Hirsh  is  a  composer/music  educator  living  in  North  Carolina.    He  received  his  Bachelor’s  in  Composition  from  the  University  of  Arizona  and  his  Masters  and  Doctorate  from  the  Peabody  Conservatory  of  the  Johns  Hopkins  University.    Alan  Hirsh  has  been  the  Music  Director  and  Fine  Arts  Department  Chair  at  Bishop  McGuinness  High  School  since  1997.  He  also  teaches  guitar  at  Wake  Forest  University  in  Winston-‐‑Salem,  and  is  the  founder  and  director  of  the  Piedmont  Guitar  Orchestra,  since  1996.  He  actively  directs  clinics  and  festival  guitar  orchestras  around  the  country  and  serves  as  Vice  President  of  Education  in  the  Aaron  Shearer  Foundation  as  well  as  executive  board  member  of  the  Piedmont  Classic  Guitar  Society.  Hirsh  has  composed  and  arranged  extensively  for  orchestra,  band,  chorus,  guitar  and  guitar  ensemble  with  works  performed  around  the  world.  In  1984,  he  collaborated  with  Aaron  Shearer,  composing  music  for  the  three-‐‑volume  method,  Learning  the  Classic  Guitar.  Hirsh’s  other  published  guitar  works  include  Twenty  Etudes  in  fixed  Positions,  New  Music  for  Classic  Guitar,  Trio  Concertino,  Holiday,  Folk,  Sacred,  and  Renaissance  Collections  for  guitar  ensemble  as  well  as  an  extensive  online  catalogue  of  guitar  ensemble  music  (guitarensemblemusic.com).    At  present  Hirsh  is  the  co-‐‑author  and  composer  for  the  three-‐‑volume  series,  The  Shearer  Method  Book  published  through  Alfred  Music.
