Introduction: The Gold Star Award is the highest county achievement award and will be awarded only once in a member’s 4-H career. Counties have award quotas based on the number of senior 4-H members in grade 10th to Post High School as reported on their counties 2013-2014 ES-237. The award is presented to the most deserving young people without regard to sex. The following are minimum requirements that must be met. 1. The member must be at least 15 at the time of application and must have completed at least 3 years in 4-H, including the current year. 2. The 4-H member MUST SUBMIT AN AWARDS PROGRAM RECORDBOOK in the year he or she is to be considered for the award. 3. The 4-H member must have completed projects in three different project areas, have submitted appropriate record forms, and have participated in one or more activities in at least three of the following areas: Educational Presentations Citizenship activities Projects Project exhibits Camps Leadership labs Public relations (speeches, poster displays, radio, TV, newspapers) Other (includes exchange programs, fundraising, State and National Congress, etc.) Note: The requirements for projects and activities do not all have to be completed in the current year. They may have been accomplished over the entire period of time the person has been in the program. The member must have exhibited leadership skills by serving as a 4-H offi cer or committee chairman (club, county, district or state), and/or as a junior or teen leader in an activity or project with or under the supervision of an adult volunteer leader. The 4-H member must have participated in one or more community service activities. Examples are working with or counseling junior 4-H members; participating in community service projects (individual, group or club); and motivating other 4-H members through participation in demonstrations, projects and/or exhibits. How quotas are determined: The 2014 Gold Star quotas have been determined using the counties enrollment as reported through 4-H CONNECT and their ES-237 report for grades 10th through Post High School for the 2013-2014 4-H Year. A list of the counties with their ES-237 enrollment and Gold Star Quota is provided. If additional Gold Stars are needed, they can be requested via e-mail to the State Office. Introduction: The Gold Star Award is the highest county achievement award and will be awarded only once in a member’s 4-H career. Counties have award quotas based on the number of senior 4-H members in grade 10th to Post High School as reported on their counties 2013-2014 ES-237.

The award is presented to the most deserving young people without regard to sex. The following are minimum requirements that must be met.

1. The member must be at least 15 at the time of

application and must have completed at least 3 years in 4-H, including the current year.

2. The 4-H member MUST SUBMIT AN AWARDS PROGRAM RECORDBOOK in the year he or she is to be considered for the award.

3. The 4-H member must have completed projects in three different project areas, have submitted appropriate record forms, and have participated in one or more activities in at least three of the following areas: • Educational Presentations • Citizenship activities • Projects • Project exhibits • Camps • Leadership labs • Public relations (speeches, poster displays, radio,

TV, newspapers) • Other (includes exchange programs, fundraising,

State and National Congress, etc.)

Note: The requirements for projects and activities do not all have to be completed in the current year. They may have been accomplished over the entire period of time the person has been in the program.

The member must have exhibited leadership skills by serving as a 4-H offi cer or committee chairman (club, county, district or state), and/or as a junior or teen leader in an activity or project with or under the supervision of

an adult volunteer leader. The 4-H member must have participated in one or more community service activities. Examples are working with or counseling junior 4-H members; participating in community service projects (individual, group or club); and motivating other 4-H members through participation in demonstrations, projects and/or exhibits.

How quotas are determined: The 2014 Gold Star quotas have been determined using the counties enrollment as reported through 4-H CONNECT and their ES-237 report for grades 10th through Post High School for the 2013-2014 4-H Year.

A list of the counties with their ES-237 enrollment and Gold Star Quota is provided. If additional Gold Stars are needed, they can be requested via e-mail to the State Office.

Quotas have been determined based on the following guidelines:

McLennan County 4-H Bronze Star Award Guidelines and Application

The Bronze Star Award is designed to recognize the outstanding achievements by 4-H members who are 9 years old as of August 31st of the current 4-H year, or in the third grade to age 10 years old. Awards will be presented annually, and a 4-H member may

only receive this award one time. Age is based on August 31, 2014.

Criteria for selection: 1. Must be 9 years old by August 31st of the current 4-H year (or in the 3rd grade) to 10 years old

as of August 31st of the current year. 2. Must have been in 4-H for at least one year. 3. The Bronze Star Award will be presented to the most deserving junior member without regard

to gender. 4. The 4-H member must submit a 4-H Recordbook in the year he or she is to be considered for

the Bronze Star Award. 5. The 4-H member must have completed two different project areas during their 4-H career. 6. Must have participated in various 4-H activities, community service and leadership

experiences. Judging process:

• A check of award eligibility and required application materials. • Judging of the awards application. • An interview with a panel of judges. • Review of 4-H Recordbook and achievements.

McLennan County 4-H Silver Star Award Guidelines and Application

The Silver Star Award is designed to recognize the outstanding achievements by 4-H members who are 11 years old as of August 31st of the current 4-H year, to age 13

years old. Awards will be presented annually, and a 4-H member may only receive this award one time. Age is based on August 31, 2014.

Criteria for selection:

1. Must be 11, 12 or 13 years old by August 31st of the current 4-H year to 10 years old as of August 31st of the current year.

2. Must have been in 4-H for at least two years. 3. The Silver Star Award will be presented to the most deserving intermediate member without

regard to gender. 4. The 4-H member must submit a 4-H Recordbook in the year he or she is to be considered for

the Silver Star Award. 5. The 4-H member must have completed three different project areas during their 4-H career. 6. Must have participated in various 4-H activities, community service and leadership

experiences. Judging process:

• A check of award eligibility and required application materials. • Judging of the awards application. • An interview with a panel of judges. • Review of 4-H record book and achievements.

McLennan County 4-H Gold Star Award Guidelines and Application

The Gold Star Award is the highest County 4-H Achievement Award. The following

criterion is based upon the state guidelines as stated in the current Texas 4-H Opportunities Handbook. Any 4-H member not meeting criteria will not be considered

for this award. Criteria for selection:

1. The 4-H member must be at least 15 years of age as of August 31st of the current year. 2. The 4-H member must have completed three years in 4-H, including the current year. 3. The Gold Star Award will be presented to the most deserving intermediate member without

regard to gender. 4. The 4-H member must submit a 4-H Recordbook in the year he or she is to be considered for

the Gold Star Award. 5. Projects and Activities:

During his/her years in 4-H, the member must have: a. Completed three different project areas including submission of appropriate forms b. Participated in one or more activities in at least three of the following areas:

vi. Leadership Lab vii. Citizenship Activities

viii. Other 6. Leadership Skills:

During his/her years in 4-H, the member must have exhibited leadership skills in one or more of the following areas:

a. Must have service as an officer or committee chairman at some level of 4-H organization (club, county, district or state)

b. Must have served as junior or teen leader in an activity or project with or under the supervision of an adult leader

7. Community Service: a. The 4-H member must have participated in one or more community service activities,

either as an individual, group or club type project. Judging process:
