Fusing & Fabric Painting

Shredded Fabric Art

Classes are from 9am to 4pm each day of the event - AZ does not observe Daylight Savings Time

Lenore Crawford [email protected]

After working in a hospital lab and then chemical research for many years, Lenore Crawford wanted to pursue her passion for art as a full-time endeavor. She has worked in many different media including pen and ink, acrylics, wood, and others and became intrigued with fabric. She developed her own fiber art style and technique and called it “Impressionistic Fabric Blending” using 2” squares of hundreds of different fabrics cut randomly and assembled to create a sort of fabric “painting”. Currently she is using fusing and fabric paints

to create her fiber art. She lectures and teaches nationally and internationally and has won numerous prizes for her work including her Port of Cassis for Moda Best Wall Quilt at the AQS Show in Paducah, KY, 2011 and Monet’s Lily Pond, 2011, Denver National Quilt Festival VI, Best Wall Quilt. Lenore loves using fabric as an art medium, and along with fabric paints she has achieved realism with texture and depth that other mediums do not achieve.

Fusing & Fabric Painting Tue. Jan. 6

In this workshop the designing of a small fused project will begin. We will work from one of Lenore's patterns. It will be outlined on freezer paper and then transferred to muslin or a background on which the fabric design will be fused. No sewing will be done during the workshop, only the designing and fusing. You will also learn how to make patterns from your own photos. Lenore will also demonstrate how to add fabric painting to your design to add detail and depth. Finished Size: 18" x 25"

Kit Fee: $15.Pay to Teacher Includes: Pattern, 2 yds fusible web, parchment paper, freezer paper, fabric

Shredded Fabric Art Wed. Jan. 7

In this workshop students will learn to create their own shredded fabric impressionistic art quilt using a technique originated by Noriko Endo. Fabrics are shredded in class and used to design a scene. Then the design is covered in tulle and top-stitched using free-motion sewing or simply pinned and taken home for stitching. Finishing techniques will also be covered such as binding the piece and hanging methods. Lenore will also show how she uses fabric paints to enhance these pieces even more where appropriate. Finished Size: 18" x 22"

Seven Sisters Sat. Jan. 10 Nothing is more stunning than twenty brilliant stars made from diamonds. "Seven Sisters" is what makes this quilt sparkle. The power in the sparkle is created by using 20 great fabrics from a narrow color palette and precision piecing using the Butterfly Seam. Come ready to relax and chat; you are not expected to finish this in class since there is no speed sewing. This beauty takes time to complete. Finished Size: 45” x 60”

Kit Fee: $22.00 Pay to Teacher Includes: Pattern and tool

Modern Mystery Fri. Jan. 9 It’s fast, it’s quick, it’s geometric and it’s free-style piecing with control. We will start with having fun and explore design possibilities of hanging diamonds or tumbling blocks. The technique uses the Polygon and Polygon2 Tools and Butterfly Seam to create a BOLD wall-hanging that shouts, “Modern” or “Contemporary”. This workshop is about you. Finished Size: 45” x 60”

Kit Fee: $42.00 Pay to Teacher Includes: Pattern and Polygon and Polygon2 Tools

Linda Hibbert [email protected]

An artist all of her life, Linda has spent many years with all animals, especially cats, dogs and horses which are in her words, “the most artistically beautiful animals in the world.” Her extraordinary paper pieced patterns are very satisfying due to the realistic detail designed into them. Her favorite subjects are birds and animals.

For the last 9 years Linda has offered FREE patterns from her website newsletter. She believes that ‘what goes around comes around’ and her generosity with designing skills has given many a quilter the opportunity to learn and love paper piecing. Several of her show quilts created with these free patterns have won national acclaim. The show quilt ‘A

BIRD FOR ALL SEASONS’ won second place in its class at Houston a few years ago. BOTANICALS AND BUTTERFLIES toured the country with the IQA Helen Pierce O ‘Bryant IN FULL BLOOM V, a memorial show. Linda’s original version of WALK IN THE WOODS was a fi-nalist in the IQA Celebrate! Spring. MEADOW MEDITATION toured with the Hoffman Challenge in 2008. NORMAN debuted in Hou-ston and toured with IQA in 2011. 2011 TREASURES OF THE RAINFOREST and 2012 TREASURES FROM THE SEA have yet to be shown.

Jelly Jar Dyeing

Classes are from 9am to 4pm each day of the event - AZ does not observe Daylight Savings Time

Pam Keenan Pam Keenan was born in Omaha, Nebraska graduated from Harry A. Burke High School and was married in 1970. She has two boys, Todd and Trent and a husband Tom. Pam has always sewn, and from high school Home Economics she learned to make jackets, blouses, and shirts etc. In the mid 1970’s, she started quilting the time honored patterns, with earth tones and pastel colors and of course, all hand quilted. The move from Omaha to Ashland, Nebraska in 1981 gave her the atmosphere to quilt more and to expand her horizons. The smaller towns and the church groups let you see things more clearly so on she quilted. The move to Las Vegas Nevada in 1986 gave her more time for quilting a new look on life. She joined the Desert Quilters, made new friends, and visited many fabric shops in California. Pam prepares hand dyed fabric for her company, Pocket Change Distr. This is one of the ways she expresses herself. The enjoyment of dyeing fabric and the stress relief that comes from dyeing your own fabric is better than any recommendation your doctor can give for you. Pam continues to look for bright, bold, fabric with texture and unique designs not only for herself but for her customers as well. Pam is a member of Desert

Quilters of Nevada and has attended Road to California since the 1990’s.

[email protected] Kim Schrader Fauth has been teaching quilt classes for approximately 10 years but has been quilting for over thirty years. A former math teacher, she is an expert at explaining material so it makes sense. When she came up with the new ABCD Technique, she shared it with her Monday quilting group. They strongly encouraged her to write a book because the technique was so new and different. Kim is a native of Illinois but has lived in Colorado and Idaho. She resides in Yuma, Arizona near the Mexico/California border. She is married to Daniel

Fauth and has two children, Tyler and Leah. When she isn’t teaching quilting she is tutoring kids in math and traveling as much as possible.
