Dear Friends and Supporters,
2015 was a triumphant year for the Jacksonville Humane Society and
the animals in Jacksonville! Together with our partners, we sustained
our city-wide no kill status by ensuring that 93% or more of the
homeless animals who entered local shelters were adopted into loving
homes.
The excitement grew in 2015 as we finally began construction on our
long-awaited new shelter! Many of you have been our friends since
before the devastating fire in 2007 destroyed our shelter and claimed
the lives of 86 animals. Seeing this dream of a new shelter turn into a
reality is an honor and a privilege!
As our new shelter builds, so does our commitment to the community.
We are steadfast in our mission to be a resource for local pet owners
and their companion animals. In addition to caring for thousands of
homeless animals in Jacksonville each year, we also offer:
Behavior assistance for pet owners
Positive-Reinforcement training courses
Resources, such as pet food and veterinary care, for pet owners in
need via our Pet Safety Net program
Low-cost veterinary care at our animal hospital
Humane education for youth and adults
A wide variety of adoption promotions throughout the year
Monthly off-site adoption events that bring the pets to the people
With change comes challenge, but challenges make champions. With
each challenge we faced in 2015, the support of our generous friends,
donors, and volunteers helped us come out on top.
Now – let’s build this puppy!

Giving Tuesday Demolishes Records
Giving Tuesday is a world-wide day of giving that takes place on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It follows the madness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This year, JHS donors took things to a new level, shattering previous Giving Tuesday records with an amazing total of more than $32,000 for the animals! Giving Tuesday was also a time to highlight the importance of our Medical Fund, used to help dogs like Fauna, who came to JHS with a gunshot wound. Thanks to JHS donors, she received medical care and found a loving home!

Coming 2017
Building Families, One Dog at a Time
A skinny, black dog arrived as a stray at the city shelter on July
30th, 2014. Sallie was 20 lbs. underweight with double ear infec-
tions, heartworms, and a painful skin issues. On top of her health
issues, Sallie did not have a lot of experience with people or living in
a home. Months went by with no family in sight. JHS transferred
her to our care in February 2015. Our staff worked with Sallie to
improve her manners and showcase her spirit. A year passed and
Sallie was still waiting in the shelter. JHS doubled their efforts –
showcasing her on the news, giving her a billboard with help from
our friends at Comcast Outdoor and plastering the internet with
pleas. Finally – in October, 15 long months later – a man named
Chris saw a video of Sallie and knew
she was the one for him. Sallie was
finally home! Sallie, now named
“Malibu” or “Boo” for short, is living the
good life with her dad! They are a
perfect pair and love spending time
together. Sallie’s story is just one of
the many examples of how the JHS’
partnerships save lives and
keeps Jacksonville a no kill
city!
A Strong Foundation On Which We Build In 2015, foundations awarded JHS more than $500,000 in funding!
At our annual Toast to the Animals event in September of 2015, we were
thrilled to announce that the Petco Foundation generously awarded one million
dollars to JHS for our Campaign to Build a
Compassionate Community! Thank you Petco
Foundation, for supporting our mission to
continue saving homeless pets in Jacksonville!

JHS loves dogs, cats, and JAGUARS! 2015 was a banner year for JHS thanks to our home team. Not only was JHS the biggest recipient of the Jaguars Foundation Give & G0 promotion, but we also were honored to have General Manager Dave Caldwell and his wife, Joelle, as our chairs of Toast to the Animals. The Jaguars Foundation also generously provided local, underprivileged youth with scholarships to attend JHS Camp Paw Prints! October was an exciting month when Jaguars fans raised more than $33,000 for JHS in the Hometown Showdown contest against the Ravens. There’s no way we can’t win with the Jags by our side!
Executive Director, Denise Deisler, accepts Petco Foundation’s
generous gift from Karen Meader, National Adoption Program
Manager for Petco, at JHS’ 2015 Toast to the Animals.
Camp Paw Prints kids loved bathing our JHS dogs!
MUTT MARCH Big or small, we march for them all.
Mutt March raised over $100,000 for JHS! Mutt March is a fun-filled festival for dogs & families!
Toast to the Animals
Chaired by Dave and Joelle Caldwell, Toast to the Animals is
held each year to benefit the JHS Medical Fund. In 2015, Toast
raised over $100,000 for the animals in our care.
Toast to the Animals is a night of unlimited wine and
hors d’oeuvres tasting, auctions and dancing for
the dogs and cats at JHS!
