GENERAL INFORMATION The Campus Involvement Center is excited to provide the Laker Leader program as an opportunity for current students to give back to the University, show their school spirit, and welcome a new class of Lakers to MU! This year we will be hiring up to 35 Laker Leaders and plan to implement year round involvement for the group. As always, we want our Laker Leaders to be a strong representation of what it means to be a LAKER!

The program will comprise of several different components, mainly involving Summer Orientation and Welcome Week. Laker Leaders also may be asked to assist with a handful of events throughout the academic year.

If you are selected, the Laker Leader program will begin in April. We seek fun, enthusiastic and dedicated undergraduate students who are looking to further develop their leadership skills as. Above all, we are looking for candidates that truly love MU and can showcase that to incoming students.

****Due to conflicts in training schedules students serving as Resident Assistants (RAs) next year will be unable to serve as Laker Leaders.

LAKER LEADER CHAIR/ CO-CHAIRS ____________________________________________________________The Campus Involvement Center will hire up to TWO Laker Leaders (from the initial group hired) to serve as Laker Leader Chair(s). This/these student(s) will coordinate the Laker Leader experience alongside the Campus Involvement Center Staff. The Chair(s) will be required to work in the CIC office throughout the whole summer to prepare for orientations and will be required to be present at all orientation/Laker Leader events. The chair position is a paid position.

SELECTION TIMELINE

February 16th, 2015Laker Leader Applications available in the Campus Involvement Center, located on the second floor of the Student Union

March 18th, 2015Laker Leader Applications are due to the Campus Involvement Center, located on the second floor of the Student Union by NOON. This is a firm deadline and late applications will not be accepted, so plan accordingly!

March 24th Group interview time slot #1 from 7:00pm-9:00pm (You must attend one group interview session!)

March 25th Group interview time slot #2 from 3:30pm-5:30pm (You must attend one group interview session!)

March 30th Laker Leader status letters emailed out.

Mid-April, 2015Mandatory Laker Leader Meeting details will be provided if selected.

Summer, 2015Laker Leaders are asked to assist in at Least TWO of the four Summer Orientation dates* which occur on June 24th, June 29th, August 14th, and August 20th.

*Laker Leaders that reside far from campus may be exempt from one session at the discretion of Summer Orientation Staff.

QUALIFICATIONS & ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: SIGNATURE REQUIREDI fully understand that being a Laker Leader involves a commitment throughout the summer as well as the 2014-2015 academic year. During the summer I understand that, as a Laker Leader I am required to assist with 2 summer orientation sessions. In addition to the responsibilities indicated in this application, I agree and commit to return to Mercyhurst before fall semester begins in order to attend the Laker Leader training session, and to assist with Welcome Week activities. I also understand that move in, training dates and times will be communicated by July 1st. I certify that I meet all of the qualifications and eligibility requirements listed below.

ACADEMIC: Have a minimum GPA of 2.75. Be a registered, full-time, traditional, undergraduate student at the main campus at the time of application and for Fall 2014. STUDENT CONDUCT: Be and remain in good standing at Mercyhurst University with no serious judicial sanctions (Contact Preston Reilly if you have any questions). LEADERSHIP: Be involved in your Mercyhrust experience! Be prepared to talk about, and use the unique leadership skills you have gained while on campus. The Laker Leader program is a great way to cultivate these skills, but we are looking for candidates who already have developed a strong foundation to build upon. RELEVANT SKILLS: Have a working knowledge of, and commitment to, the mission and goals of Mercyhurst University, and Summer Orientation/Welcome Week. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Have the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of team members, students, parents, administrators, and staff. Demonstrate a willingness to learn about the Mercyhurst University community, its programs, policies, and procedures. Demonstrate responsibility and willingness to assist others. Attend and actively participate in all meetings, trainings, and retreats.
