Call out list

Hello G-N Community!

I am happy to say I Bernadine Clayton will now

be taking over the call out list.

How it works

Go the GN office to fill out the Form. The GN

office passes the information to the interested

member in the Port Hardy area who are on the

call out list. This is for Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw

members only. Friendly reminder you do not have

to contact me in any way because I have all you

information all you have to do is wait for a call.

First on, first served in rotation

The job call-out list works on a first come, first

served basis. When job notices arrive at the office,

we match the job to people interested in that type

of work. You will be called in order your name was

added to the call out list. Once you’ve been called

out, the next job posting goes to the next

interested person on the list. When we reach the

bottom of the list we start at the top again and

your turn will come around again. So it is a

rotating list, everyone on the list will be called in

turn.

We keep track of when and how many times we

try to contact you. If we cannot contact you using

the information you provided or you do not

respond in a reasonable time, we need to move

onto the next person because the employer will go

elsewhere to fill the position.

Improving your chances

Keep your information up to date

especially if your contact information

changes. If we can’t contact you we have to

move onto the next person on the list as

employer will look elsewhere for workers.

If you receive notice of work and do not

want to or unable to work, please let me

know and we will move onto the next

person.

Tell me if you are no longer interested in

more, it will save calling you, your name

can be put back on the list at a later time.

Housing Office News/Report

February 11, 2015

Housing Committee - The housing office is still working on getting the Housing Committee up and

running again. I have a meeting with Chief & Council on the 12th to get the committee ratified! once this

is done we can start having regular meetings again :)

Housing Policies and Housing Rental Agreements - Once the newly formed housing committee is ratified

by C&C we will begin to look at a universal Housing Policy, Housing Rental Policy, and Terms of

Reference for the housing committee. We are hoping to apply these policies to all band rental properties,

not just Social Housing Units.

The housing office is still doing the necessary call outs for maintenance and other services, rents are

being collected by most, not all, but MOST :) which is a great improvement. One of the top priorities for

the new committee, once they are established, will also be dealing with the non-payment of rents. Invoices

and bank deposits are being done every month. Entries for rent charged and rent paid are being entered

into the computer and printouts are given to the band manager so that they are brought to the attention

of C&C for review as well.

CMHC Plan to Improve Operations - The housing office has been working in partnership with CMHC to

address CMHC Housing operations since 2013. It was held off for the year that I was away but is now

underway again. Mostly dealing with CMHC units under our operating agreement.

Lot-in-fills - As you may have noticed there has been a lot of work being done around the reserve, old

units that were condemned were burnt down and the Lots that they were on, cleaned up and ready for

new buildings. Once the committee is in place we will begin meeting to determine the next process of

building new homes on those potential lots.

Housing Conference - I will be attending a Housing Conference in Vancouver along with Dodie Rufus and

Leslie Walkus on February 20th. Hopefully they will have new information on building, renovation, and

new tech materials. Leo Lawson will also be attending this conference.

CMHC annual Client Visit is this year, which means our representative will be here in July to inspect the

Social housing units again to be sure we are complying with our operating agreement. Look for notices as

to the exact date once it is confirmed. So, be prepared for an inspection in April and in July CMHC rental

units.

Thank you, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly at 250-902-2304 or email me

[email protected] anytime! You can also message me on FB

G&N RECYCLING DEPOT

Hello everyone, hope everyone is having a happy new

year. I’ve included another list of acceptable and

unacceptable items for the recycling depot.

The hours are 1-5pm

-Monday

-Wednesday

-Friday

I’d like to ask people not to drop things off after hours.

Dogs and birds have been making a mess of garbage been

left behind and other Items such as beds, couches, boxes’

has been getting wet and makes it difficult to deal with

once I’m back to work. So please wait until the facility is

open and I will be happy to assist you. Please remind

children not to climb the fences while depot is closed

would hate for someone to get hurt if there is no one

around.

Thanks Brandon Walkus

Emergency planning meeting:

Our next scheduled meeting is on March 5, 10-11 am at

Wakas Hall.

Please feel free to drop by and see what we are doing.

Culverts:

It has been noticed that children have been putting

blocks of wood and other debris into the culverts when

it's raining.

It cost the Band over $3,000.00 to get one culvert

cleaned out and have it replaced because it was plugged

with old wood.

Please watch your children and get them to stop doing

this.

Together we can have a safe and clean community.
