DEREK ANDERSONDerek H. Anderson, is currently the Assistant Administrator of the City of Columbus Department of Public Utilities Division of Sewerage and Drainage.

Derek serves on the Board of Trustees of Wilberforce University (Wilberforce, OH), Methodist Theological Seminary (Delaware, OH) and the Foundation Board of Trustees for Central State University.

Derek is also the Chairman of the Environmental Health Sciences Advisory Board for The Ohio State University College of Public Health. In addition, Derek is a member of the National Diversity Expertise Panel for the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Derek is the Chairman of the Franklin County Alcohol Drug and Mental Health Board.

JONICA ARMSTRONG

Jonica N. Armstrong was raised in Cincinnati, OH and lived in Nashville, TN, and Milwaukee, WI before joining DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW Inc.), America’s Favorite Place for Shoes, headquartered in Columbus, OH.

Before following her passion into her current role, managing Community Relations for DSW, she spent nearly ten years in retail buying and planning for both DSW and Kohl’s Corporation. Jonica, a 2012 graduate of United Way of Central Ohio’s Project Diversity, has devoted many years to giving back to communities and individuals through different organizational affiliations including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio, where she met her mentee of five years.

Her dedication to the needs and development of youth extends back to her days at her alma mater, Tennessee State University, and prior. Jonica is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Boys and Girls Clubs of Columbus and a three-time United Way of Central Ohio Project Diversity Selection committee member.

TIWUAN ATCHLEY

Tiwuan Atchley was eight years old when his Mom enrolled him in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio program. He was a shy boy with a big smile and even bigger dreams and goals. He is the seventh of eight children, and lives with his single mother and siblings. Tiwuan has never had a relationship with his biological father. Tiwuan’s mother has suffered numerous health challenges for many years. As a result of her failing health, she has been unable to provide her children with opportunities and experiences that she felt would allow them the best chance to reach their full potential. In his young life, Tiwuan has experienced homelessness and poverty; he has lived in shelters, moved and changed schools several times.

When Tiwuan was accepted into Big Brothers Big Sisters,it was obvious that he had the ability and capacity to do well and achieve success in his life. However, as a result of his challenges, he did not always have a clear vision of how to reach his goals. With Big Brother Andrei Terpylak at his side, Tiwuan has developed that vision. Andrei helped Tiwuan realize that he is not defined by his environment, but rather by his determination to overcome his circumstances and challenges.

Today, Tiwuan is well on his way to success. He is a senior at Linden McKinley High School, where he is on the Honor Roll and has consistently maintained a 3.0+ GPA. In addition, he was accepted into Franklin University’s Post-Secondary Enrollment Option Program (PSEOP) for high school seniors.

The PSEOP is designed to provide motivated and accomplished high school students with access to college-level coursework, and Tiwuan is attending Franklin University for his senior year in high school! Tiwuan is the first in his family to attend college, and he plans to become the first college graduate. His focus and determination has made him a role model for his siblings, family members and also his peers.

MELISSA BLOUNT-GARNER

Melissa Blount-Garner is the Vice President, Community and Economic Development for Fifth Third Bank. In this role, she manages Outreach and Flagship Initiatives promoting financial literacy for the Community and Economic Development Department serving the Central and Southern Ohio markets. Melissa has 14 years of financial industry experience including project and client relationship management, brokerage conversions, diversity initiatives and training and development.

Melissa holds a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Ohio Dominican University.

TASHA BOOKERTasha Booker serves as the Vice President and Executive Director for City Year Columbus. In this role she serves as the primary leader, internal manager, strategist, external champion, and builder of the Columbus site. Tasha develops and leads City Year Columbus’ annual and long-term strategy and priorities, in alignment with City Year Inc. strategy and priorities.

Prior to joining City Year, Tasha served as the Director of Development and Public Relations for I Know I Can where she was responsible for all resource development and public relations activities of I Know I Can to recognize an annual organizational budget of $4 million. Tasha has also held roles for United Way of Central Ohio, Boy Scouts of America and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Tasha is dedicated to her community through her service on volunteer committees for the YWCA, and as a member of the Board of Directors for First Night Columbus and the advisory board for the YMCA Jerry L. Garver branch. She is a founding member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Central Ohio Chapter and is a member of WELD Ohio and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Columbus, Ohio Alumnae Chapter. She is a graduate of the JPMorgan Chase Gen Y Leadership Project and a Cycle 6 African American Leadership Academy Fellow.

TAI CORNUTETai A. Cornute serves as Program Coordinator for the Todd Anthony Bell National Resource Center on the African American Male at The Ohio State University. There, some of his responsibilities include: managing the annual and nationally renowned Black Male Retreat for collegiate males, planning an annual fundraiser Lecture Series Luncheon, coordinating a local Middle School Mentoring Program at Columbus City Preparatory School for Boys, and advising students. Committed to leadership through service.

Tai is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the chair of the Diversity Leadership Council at the American Red Cross, and a board member of Central Ohio Men Against Prostate Cancer.

He graduated proudly from Columbus’ Independence High School as Valedictorian in 2004, and Ohio State’s College of Social Work, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 2008.

Over the last 8 years of my career I have dedicated my life to the development of people through education and workforce development programs. It is my belief that a person can change their life through pursuing education opportunities and leveraging that into a career that can change their life and the life of their family. In 2007, I started a business that helped individuals with development disabilities develop their socialization skills in order to increase the quality of life and employability of these individuals with multiple barriers to employment, during my tenure I was able to place over 100 individuals in careers and also prepare 15 youth with disabilities gain entrance into the local community college.

In 2009, I left that role to manage a UW funded program for financial literacy that serviced over 1,000 unbanked individuals through the financial stability collaborative. In 2013 I joined the Columbus Urban League as a Program Manager and was able to develop innovative programs that included work in education (helping to secure the CUL’s first $1M Summer Youth Works Grant)and Workforce Development. In this role I was able to use my training as an MBA to develop some best practices in finance and program innovation.

Currently I am the relationship marketing manager for McGraw Hill Education where I can have a bigger impact on the life of youth and help in ensuring that young people have access to educational resources. I am responsible for over 30,000 districts across the country with an impact on over 20M students. Color Me Excellent would be an opportunity for young people, specifically African American Males, to witness the possibilities from someone who was exposed to their struggles early in life but was able to turn the corner and have a positive impact not only on his family but on the community as a whole.

As the owner and proprietor of A Cut Above the Rest barber shop in the King/Lincoln District of Columbus, OH.

A longtime resident of Columbus, he is a proud graduate of East High School. Commitment to Service, truly defines Al. He is a United States Army veteran who served in Operation Desert Storm. Al has recently hosted the 1st King/Lincoln Memorial Pride Honoring and Remembering African Americans for their services in the armed forces. When Al first established his business, he purposely chose the community in which he was raised.

During his tenure on 20th & Mt. Vernon Avenue, he has transformed his business into a multi-use facility housing a barbershop and a nonprofit working with families in the community named Making A Difference, Inc. Al’s dedication to service extends directly into the community. Al spearheads local community action committees, is a member of the St. Marks Lodge#7, New Salem Baptist Church, Al also facilitates a men’s’ bible study group on Mondays at his shop, Al has served as a ambassador for the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and Life Line of Ohio. Oyauma M. Garrison AVP, Nationwide Insurance Oyauma M. Garrison is Associate Vice President, Non-Std Insurance Sales & Marketing at Nationwide Insurance. In his role, Oyauma is responsible for leading a sales team to drive Non-Std product profitable growth within the Nationwide Insurance Exclusive Channel of over 3400 Agents.

Oyauma has 18 years of proven leadership experience in the insurance and financial services industry. Named a 2011 Business First 40 under 40 honoree, featured alumni in the Franklin University magazine, delivered keynote for several companies, and has received numerous awards for leadership and community service. Oyauma serves as Immediate Past Chairman of the Board for St. Vincent Family Centers. He currently serves as co-chair of the 2014 United Way Campaign Cabinet corporate development committee.

He is the Co-Chair of the United Way Tocqueville society, a Key Club steering committee member, and member of the Young Leadership Group. ROY HALLA Cleveland native, Roy Hall attended Charles F. Brush High School where he was a football and basketball standout. He attended The Ohio State University on a full athletic scholarship. He was member of the 2002 National Championship Team.

While maintaining a 3.2 GPA, Roy obtained a degree in marketing and was also a five time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete Award winner. The Indianapolis Colts selected Roy in the 5th round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Hall spent 4 seasons playing for the Colts and Detroit Lions.

In 2008, Roy established the Driven Foundation with a goal of impacting the world, one life at a time through outreach events, mentorship programs and inspirational speaking. Since 2008 Roy Hall and Driven have proudly distributed more than 450,000 pounds of FREE food to Central Ohio families.

Nikki Jones has 10+ years of experience in Supply Chain Management and is currently a Supply Chain Manager at Abbott Nutrition. She received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration (Integrated Supply Matrix Management) from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

CORNELL LEWISCornell Lewis serves as the Executive Director of The Cornell Lewis serves as the Executive Director of The Expanding Visions Foundation; a grass roots non-profit mentoring organization that he started over 15 years ago. He is a native of Columbus, OH and upon graduating from Columbus South High School; he spent eight years in the United States Army. During his time in the military, he actively served in Desert Storm/Desert Shield, Korea and he was a Sergeant/E-5 in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC.

From 1993 to 1994, he worked for the Defense Investigative Security Clearance Office. From 1994 through 1998, he worked for the United States Postal Service. In 1998, he entered the City of Columbus Fire Academy where he is currently a firefighter and paramedic with the City of Columbus Division of Fire.

Mr. Lewis earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology from Ohio Dominican University and a Master’s degree from Capella University with a major in Human Services and Community Development. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Human Behavior from Capella University.

Mr. Lewis is the recipient of the 2010 Outstanding Mentor of the year from The Mentoring Center of Central Ohio presented by The Honorable Joyce Beatty, 2001 Humanitarian Award from the American Legion and the 1998 Humanitarian Award from the Lighthouse Project (all of Columbus, OH). In 1995, he facilitated a program titled G.Y.M. (Guiding Young Men) at Southmoor Middle School in which he personally mentored 37 young males each school year on a weekly basis by teaching life skills. Several of the young men from the program have gone on to obtain college degrees, maintain the values that they were taught and are now giving back to EVF by sharing their stories and experiences.

Mr. Lewis is married and he is the father of four children. He is a member of the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church where he serves faithfully as the “Bread of Life” Food Pantry Servant Leader. He is also an ordained deacon. He spends much of his time mentoring men and young men and building programs for schools and organizations who desire his services.

SHELLY LEWISShelly Lewis is the Senior Director, of Volunteer and Resource Development at HandsOn Central Ohio. Ms. Lewis is responsible for leading the Volunteer Center that includes corporate volunteer programs and federally funded programs.

Before joining HandsOn Central Ohio, Shelly was the Manager, Corporate Volunteer Programs with The Columbus Foundation where she assisted corporations and their employees with their community involvement.

Before that, Shelly was the Manager of Giving Programs and Volunteerism for L Brands where she oversaw all aspects of volunteerism and associate giving programs which included United Way and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure for all home office locations for eight years. Prior to this, she worked for Nationwide Insurance in various roles that included project manager and business systems analyst for nearly 17 years.

In 2006, she obtained a certification in Corporate Citizenship from The Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College. Shelly is on the board of trustees for New Salem Missionary Baptist Church and also co-leads the Bread of Life Food Pantry. My job as the Medical Director and Assistant Health Commissioner for Columbus Public Health is to help keep the over 1 million residents and visitors to the City of Columbus healthy and safe. We do this every day by providing clinical services to diagnosis and treat sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis and putting immunizations in peoples arms. We also license swimming pools, restaurants and body art studios.

In addition we monitor infectious disease activity and look for outbreaks and monitor air, hospital visits, disease activity and store purchases to help with early detection of potential bioterrorism activities and outbreaks.

Our work also includes helping the very young with our WIC program, home visiting program for new babies and a nutrition program for young children. PARIS SHAWMy name is Paris Shaw and I am a senior at Gahanna Lincoln High School. I have maintained a 4.02 GPA throughout high school and have also been on the honor roll for six years straight. My academic performance has allowed me to be involved in a prestigious marketing education program called DECA.

Besides my academic involvement, I am very involved with my church. At New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, I am a youth leader who endeavors to uplift other youth through the word of God as we address issues that plague our generation such as self-esteem and identity.

After high school, I plan to major in biology and pursue a career in Medicine. With medicine, I plan to go into pediatrics because I want to promote and help maintain the health of the next generation by applying my skills to a career in pediatrics.

As a future African-American woman in medicine, I know I can help mitigate health disparities faced by underserved populations with my involvement and advocacy for disadvantaged populations.

Stefanie Steward-Young is Senior Vice President / Regional Director of Community and Economic Development for Fifth Third Bank. In this role, she oversees the banks Community Reinvestment Act and Community Affairs efforts for Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Missouri, and Ashland Kentucky. Stefanie has 18 years of financial industry experience including Community Reinvestment Act Management, Corporate Philanthropy, Branch Management, Commercial Credit, and Retail Training.

Stefanie received a Master of Business Administration degree in 1998 from Franklin University and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Management and Marketing in 1993 from the University of Cincinnati.

Stefanie was a recipient of the Business First Forty under 40 Award in 2004. Stefanie has been a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. since 1992. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Homeport, Ohio CDC Association, Community Development Collaborative of Greater Columbus, and Economic & Community Development Institute. Stephanie is a Sr. Special Technical Project Manager with AT&T for over 20 years. Stephanie is a community leader. She has sat as the Regional Director for 2 yrs and currently sits as VP over Public Relations with Community NETwork.

Stephanie holds many volunteer positions in the community, but spends most of her time as a Teen Mentor with Center for Healthy Family and a Guardian At Liteum with CASA of Franklin County. Stephanie enjoys working in the community and volunteers throughout the year with various organizations such as, Children’s Hunger Alliance and Pioneers, to name a few.
