MISSION Our mission is to inspire students to strive for academic excellence, and to nurture their aspirations in a caring, family-oriented community to become people of depth, strength, integrity and character.
Chair’s Report PROFESSOR JAYASHRI KULKARNI Chair, Kilvington Grammar School Board of Directors
2015 was another great year of growth and expansion for Kilvington. We saw an increase in student numbers and development of our capital works program. A total of 681 students were enrolled in 2015 - the greatest number of students in our 92-year history. As a result, an extra Year 3 and two Year 11 classes were added. The gender mix of students is now almost equal, which is remarkable considering that Kilvington became a co-educational school only five years ago.
In 2015, we completed and launched a state-of-the-art extension to the VCE ‘treehouse’ that includes a kitchen and lounge area for our senior students, plus study and tutorial rooms. Further capital works included a refurbished Junior School Art space, refurbishment of Science Lab 2 and makeovers to a number of Senior School classrooms and offices.
Our capital works program is designed to provide students with excellent facilities and we are very excited about our plans to build the Kilvington Sports Centre in 2017. Sports is an important part of education for all our students and the proposed new Centre is designed to meet many sporting needs. The Junior School play areas will also be redeveloped in 2017.
The Kilvington Early Learning Centre (ELC) was assessed for the quality of its program and level of care against the National Quality Standard and Regulations. Kilvington received an overall rating of ‘Exceeding the National
Quality Standard‘. This is an outstanding result for the ELC staff and the many children in their care.
During the year, Board Directors, the Executive of the School, staff, parents and students were involved in developing the School’s education vision and the Strategic Plan for 2016 – 2020. Four key themes emerged from these discussions that inform the direction for the School over the next five years. The themes are: Academic Excellence, Character, Community and Care.
I thank all Board Directors and members of the School Executive for their hard work in 2015 and look forward to continuing our work of further developing and building Kilvington.

Principal’s Report JON CHARLTONPrincipal
In 2015, Kilvington Grammar School’s reputation as a smaller coeducational school of excellence continued to grow and exceed all expectations. This growth has and will continue to enable us to increase our academic and cocurricular offerings, and build new facilities.
The year produced some significant highlights of which we can all be proud. Our 2015 VCE and NAPLAN results reinforced our commitment to academic excellence. 18% of our students were in the top 5% of the state, achieving an ATAR of 95 plus; 33% were in the top 10% of the state, achieving an ATAR of 90 plus; and, 75% were in the top 25% of the state, achieving an ATAR of 75 plus.
Our Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students performed well above the state average in all areas of Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and Numeracy in NAPLAN.
In March, we held our major biennual community event – the Kilvington World Fair and Open Day. It was a stunning success with hundreds of people visiting the School and enjoying the festivities. It showcased what is at the heart of Kilvington Grammar; a community that respectfully embraces diversity and is caring and giving. I couldn’t be more proud.
There were study tours to Japan and New Caledonia, three incredible music productions – The Wiz, Under the Gum Trees and Shrek, and our sports program continued to ‘kick goals’ with our swimming team winning the EISM Swimming Division 2 Carnival and being promoted to Division 1 in 2016.
Importantly, we maintained our focus on Character Education with an emphasis on the character traits of diligence, positivity and persistence. With research revealing that character traits such as these positively impact on academic achievement, we continued to see Character Education further embedded across the curriculum and into school life along with Growth Mindset and Visible Thinking.
The success of the year is due to the contributions of many groups and individuals in the School. I thank the PFA for coordinating a number of outstanding community events, and their President, Mrs Kirsten Brooks, for her generous efforts. I also acknowledge the support of the Alumni and its President Lauren Matthews.
I thank the Kilvington Executive team for their outstanding leadership, and the staff for their excellence in teaching, learning, operations and care.
Sincere thanks to the Chair of the Board of Governors, Prof. Jayashri Kulkarni, and Board members, for their vision, leadership and dedication to the School.
2015 has been an exceptional year, and we can all look positively to the next phase of Kilvington’s development and growth.
