hoshi Talesnick and Rabbi Barry Dov Katz first came to Camp Ramah in the Berkshires in 2001 with their three children, Avital, Shai and Ariel, and returned nearly every summer thereafter. Barry hails from Philadelphia and Shoshi from Kingston, Ontario. Both treasure friendships made at Camp. They are grateful for having had the opportunity to watch as their children, their children's friends, and the many campers of the Conservative Synagogue Adath Israel of Riverdale (CSAIR) matured and learned to love Judaism at Camp.

Shoshi serves as the CRB summer office manager, bringing a sense of calm to the Camp office while developing strong relationships with the administration, facilities and office staff. She is a valued resource for all tzevet (staff) and often reads Torah at minyanim throughout camp. For many summers, Barry served as an educator on CRB's tzevet hinuch (education staff) and in the summer of 2014 served as Rosh Mishlachat (Head of Israeli staff) and Rosh Ivrit (Head of the Hebrew educators). Barry seamlessly integrated the Israeli staff with campers and American staff members and initiated a program placing mishlachat in CRB mishpacha host homes on their days off.

Professionally, Shoshi is a pharmacist  at CVS/Pharmacy and volunteers at the library of SAR High School.  Since 1998, Barry has served as the rabbi of the Conservative Synagogue Adath Israel of Riverdale. Over the past 18 years, Barry substantially increased camper enrollment from his congregation with the support of a strong CRB presence on CSAIR’s Board of Trustees. Last year, CSAIR piloted an innovative incentive scholarship program for Camp and other Jewish educational programs with the hope of exposing more children to the magic of CRB.

Barry and Shoshi’s children entered Camp as pre-campers in

CRB’s Gan and Haverim. Avital and Shai returned as staff members and Ariel

is looking forward to participating in Ramah Seminar 2016. The Katz family

owns more Camp t-shirts than they can count!

S

arah and Eric built their lives with Camp Ramah in the Berkshires

spanning five decades. Eric, a Tzerimcamper in 1976 became Rosh

Mayim in 1986. Sarah started as a second-year Nitzi in 1979 , worked on

theagam (waterfront) in 1987 and was a Shorashimcounselor in 1988. Their

relationship, rooted in Ramah, led to Eric’s romantic proposal while on a

swim to the rock on Lake Ellis, in the summer of 1994.

Sarah, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, continued to summer at CRB with

their young children, as a yoetzetin 2003-04 and then

as Rosh Gan/Chaverim in 2012-13, all while consulting with Ramah staff on

mental-health issues. No mere weekend spouse, Eric was both an old-school

waterfront helper and a Board member, with a Facilities portfolio. He now

serves on Camp’s Executive Committee and co-chairs the new Art Opens

Doors Capital Campaign.

Eric is an attorney specializing in commercial litigation. Sarah is the Medical

Director at Four Winds Hospital in Katonah, a private psychiatric hospital. They

are proud members of Congregation Or Zarua on the Upper East Side of

Manhattan. Their children, Eliana, Benji and Ari have all attended Schechter

Manhattan and love Camp Ramah

eidi has dedicated much of her life to the Jewish community. She serves on the boards of trustees of Camp Ramah in the Berkshires, the Community Alliance for Jewish-Affiliated Cemeteries and Park Avenue Synagogue, where she is also on the executive committee. She has encouraged numerous families to send their children to CRB and was the first chair of her synagogue’s Jewish camping committee. Heidi has hosted an array of CRB programs in her home, including prospective camper parlor meetings, a Poland/Seminar orientation, and an alumni networking event. Her energetic ardor allowed her to co-chair the Gesher 2010 committee, CRB 50th Anniversary and the 2013 and 2014 Annual Fund Dinners.

Professionally, Heidi works for EurAupair Intercultural Child Care Programs. She spent two summers at Camp Ramah in the Berkshires, in 1978 and 1979, and went on the Ramah Poland Journey for Adults in 2015. Heidi is married to Rob Silverstone and they reside in Manhattan. Together, they are devoted parents to Michael (Gesher 2010) and Max (Gesher 2013). Heidi and Rob enrolled their sons in CRB at young ages, prompting Michael and Max to return to camp to serve on staff. Both children are enthusiastic alumni.

The Teitelbaum's are a true Ramah family, as Jeffrey and his four younger siblings spent the last 20 summers at CRB as campers and staff members. Jeffrey, a camper from 1995-2000, also attended Ramah Seminar in 2001. He was a Berkshires staff member from 2002-2005, in various capacities, including Sgan Rosh Shorashim, Sport and Breira and Rosh Golf. Serving as co-chair of the Ramah Golf Outing for three years, Jeffrey has become actively involved on the Ramah Berkshires Alumni Association Board over the last five years. Currently, he serves on Camp's Board of Trustees, working on the Development and Camp Growth committees. Jeffrey's volunteerism extends to his alma mater where he has been a member of Hillel at Binghamton's Board of Directors for 12 years. Professionally, he is an Executive Director at J.P. Morgan serving as a Client Executive within the Corporate Investment Bank. Jeffrey met his wife, Ayelet Rabinowitz Teitelbaum (Gesher '96), in Camp and they now reside in White Plains with their two children, Jeremy and Lyla.

Camp Ramah and family are really one and the same for Steven. Starting out as a camper in Bogrim in 1995, spending 3 summers as a camper, 1 summer on Ramah Seminar and then 6 summers on CRB staff, all of his Ramah connections intermingle. While on staff, Steven was a counselor, Rosh Sport and worked in the office. Camp set the stage for Aviva Queen and Steven Seiden, who met and eventually wed, creating even stronger ties to Camp. Between siblings, cousins, siblings-in-law and a very large camp family that encompasses other Ramah camps, not a day passes without Steven spending time with a Ramahnik. Steven, together with Jeffrey Teitelbaum, chaired the Golf Outing for three summers, developing it into the second largest fundraiser for Camp. Steven is a current Board of Trustees member, serving on the Development, Facilities and Growth committees.

Steven is an electrical engineer at Robert Derector Associates; a consulting firm in NYC that designs commercial office space for clients in the finance, technology and media sectors. Steven and Aviva reside in White Plains with their three children, Jordan, Jeremy and Nathan.

worst parental instincts Eric has ever seen.

Eric – I’ve witnessed your leadership first hand for 20 years – first with the Alumni Association and now on

the Board. You’ve always made thoughtful suggestions on ways Camp can improve and your passion has certainly made a huge impact. Most

importantly, we cherish the way our friendship, and now our children, have grown in Camp.

Steve's connection to Camp Ramah in the Berkshires runs deep and strong.

As a camper he played his heart out on chug basketball and returned on staff, first as a bunk counselor, and then

as rosh sport. He met Aviva, his true love, at Ramah.

Together they are teaching their love of Judaism, social justice, and gemilut chesed

to their children Jordan, Jeremy and Nathan, and serve as a dugma to others in the Ramah community

and beyond.
