The Amarillo College Foundation Mission:The Amarillo College Foundation, Inc. exists to solicit and

administer gifts and grants for the benefit of Amarillo College, its students, faculty and staff, its programs and facilities.

• Amarillo College has a higher student success rate than its peers with 88.5% of AC graduates employed and/or enrolled in a four year institution the following fall.

• Amarillo College trains more than 95% of the area’s Dental Hygienists.

• Over 50% of area Mortuary Science majors get their start at AC.

• Over 90% of the area’s Medical Laboratory Technologists receive their training at AC.

• More than 2,000 area high school students are enrolled in Amarillo College’s Dual Credit program each semester.

• 100% of area EMTs receive their training from Amarillo College.

Dear Friends of the Foundation:

I am proud to report that the Amarillo College Foundation year from September 1, 2015 to August 31, 2016 was extremely successful and finds us in a healthy and strong position to continue in our mission. Our assets grew to over $35 Million, and with some wonderfully generous gifts we were able to provide over $3 Million in program support and scholarships to Amarillo College and its students.

During my first year as Foundation Chair, the college hired attorney Mark White as the new Amarillo College Vice-President of Institutional Advancement and Legal Counsel. Mark’s work coordinating the school’s Advancement needs and objectives compliments the fundraising efforts of AC Foundation Co-Executive Directors, Kathy Dowdy and Tracy Dougherty. Their unified front put us on track for even greater support for AC’s students and programs moving in to the future. The Foundation hired Mia Forrester August 1st, 2016 who along with Kay Campbell, has things running smoothly in the Foundation front offices.

The 2015-2016 fiscal year has been both successful and productive. We received several large gifts that enabled us to make improvements to our Washington Street Campus:

• The Ware Student Commons was unveiled at the Foundation’s 52nd annual meeting. The Amarillo National Bank gave $1 million to establish the Center. The components of the center include The Natalie Buckthal Advocacy and Resource Center which houses the No Excuses Program, The AC Food Pantry and Coat Closet and the Billie Bee Flesher Technical Support Center.

• W.P (Paul) Buckthal donated $240,000 to establish The Natalie Buckthal Advocacy and Resource Center in the Ware Student Commons. Natalie Buckthal was a longtime member of the AC Faculty and served both on the AC Foundation board as well as the Amarillo Museum of Art. The Natalie Buckthal Tutoring Center will offer on-on-one tutoring and attention to students.

• The Billie Bee Flesher Trust, with the guidance of Bill Countiss, distributed over $270,000 to establish the Billie Bee Flesher Technical Support Center in the Ware Student Commons. The Center fulfills a critical need to assist students moving into the workforce.

• The Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation awarded $1.5m to AC’s East Campus for both capital and program expansion in our Industrial Technology programs.

I am enthusiastic over what is in store for the Foundation in the year ahead. Our Board of Directors has been simply fantastic to work with and I can assure all that your generosity in supporting the Amarillo College Foundation is in good hands.

Lifetime Philanthropists

The Amarillo College Board of Regents in 1961 believed a foundation would benefit the college, its students, faculty and programs. On January 23, 1962, Regents adopted the Articles of Incorporation of the Amarillo College Foundation, Inc. President A. B. Martin announced the first gift of $2,500 from Scott Lumber Company to be used as a faculty emergency loan fund. Those who have made cumulative gifts of $2,500 or more become Lifetime philanthropists, one of the highest forms of recognition Amarillo College and The Amarillo College Foundation can bestow. Donors are recognized in this report for cumulative gifts. We acknowledge our donors both living and deceased.

Dr. Bud Joyner became the 10th president of Amarillo College in 1992 and served in that capacity until 1999. He returned as interim president in 2002-2003.

Amarillo College grew and prospered under Joyner’s leadership, and the Bud Joyner Fellows Program originated as a means of honoring his past service. At the same time, it will enhance student-assistance funding at the College.
