this is a rare opportunity to purchase one of the area’s most premier and substantial oceanfront homes. Three years went into lot selection alone – as it is the prime street in the heart of the island, only steps away from the local scene and yet on a quiet section of the beach. Those who prefer discretion will appreciate that the property is very private and the appearance from the street is somewhat unassuming- the least of which can be said for the rest of the home. No expense was spared and every detail was considered in creating this elegant and sophisticated island retreat. The interior is absolutely stunning and the expansive views are a focal point from nearly every room. The indoor / outdoor fl ow and layout is ideal for grand entertaining and island living alike. For the buyer who has been patiently searching for something rare and unique from which to experience the best of Charleston and Sullivans, this property will captivate you.

Historic Mellon Auctions Total $218 MillionBY SOTHEBY’S | 24 NOV 2014
NEW YORK - Th e third and fi nal of Sotheby’s auctions of Property from the Collection of Mrs. Paul Mellon brought the series total to an outstanding $218.1 million. Th e three-day Interiors auction – off ering fi ne art, fur-niture, porcelain, silver, glassware, decoration and more from Mrs. Mellon’s residences in the United States and abroad – fi nished the series, more than doubling expecta-tions to achieve $14.3 million.
In total an exceptional 98.1% of lots from Mrs. Paul Mellon’s collection found buyers, helping the sale series more than double its $100 million presale estimate. Proceeds from the sales will benefi t Th e Gerard B. Lambert Foundation, a charitable entity established by Mrs. Mellon in memory of her father. Th e Foundation supports horticultural and educational endeavors.
Th e fi rst auction of Property from the Collection of Mrs. Paul Mellon – Masterworks – was held on 10 November and achieved $158.7 million. Th e auction was led by two paintings by Mark Rothko that both exceeded expectations: Untitled from 1970, which achieved $39,925,000 (est. $15/20 million), and Untitled (Yellow, Orange, Yellow, Light Orange) from 1955, which fetched $36,565,000 (est. $20/30 million). Both works had remained in the Mellons’ collection for more than four decades.
Collectors eagerly vied for Jewelry and Objects of Vertu from Mrs. Mellon’s collection on 20 and 21 November, including the Magnifi cent and Rare Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond which set a new record price for both any blue diamond and for price-per-carat, when it sold for $32.6 million.
