Potentate’s MessageHello Nobles and LadiesIt is once again a pleasure to be able to address

through the Fez Magazine, I will endeavour togive you all an update on what has happen sincemy last report.

As you may recall one of the Pillars of my“Vision for Philae Temple” is “Visibility andAwareness” and I believe we are well on the wayto making this happen. Ill Sir John Philips andmyself have just completed a wonderful “OdysseyTrip” in a vehicle dressed up to represent aShriners FEZ . The 6 day event took us aroundNova Scotia and PEI, the main purpose of theevent was to promote awareness of the ShrineOrganization to the general public and to let themknow are mandates, and to inform them of thewonderful new hospital that we are building forour Canadian children.

I would on behalf of Philae Temple like to con-gratulate Ill Sir John Philips and his committeesfor arranging and coordinating this event.

The Spring Banquet was held in May at theRamada Hotel, and Lady Nora and I would tothank each and every one of the nobles and theirladies who attend and participated in making it thesuccess it was.

Lady Nora and I had our first Potentates officialdinner on the 2 June with the DDSC/HFXSC host-ing a beautiful evening, and we are looking for-

ward to our official visits to all the Clubs in Philaethroughout the year.

The months ahead will be a very busy time forall Shriners as we have a myriad of events takingplace such as NSA, Imperial Session, PotentatesCounterparts Visitations, Potentates and CivicParade etc. further information on these events arelisted elsewhere in this edition of the Philae News.

The construction of the new hospital is on timeand on budget and should be opening its doors lateAugust or early September 2015 and I believe weshould start planning for trip off all Shriners andtheirs Ladies to attend the official opening.

I have spoken with the staff at Montreal whoare in charge of the Capital Fund RaisingCampaign and they are extremely pleased withPhilae Temples donations so far in the amount of$218,310.00 towards our commitment of $ 30000. 00 so please keep up the good work and Iknow with every ones help we will soon meet orsurpass our target.

In closing I would like to thank the Divan,Executive, Clubs Presidents, Units Heads, and allNobles and their Ladies for the support that youhave given to me so far and I would ask that youcontinue with you support for the remainder of theyear and together we will continue to makeprogress in all Shrine matters.

Greetings Nobles:As I sit down to write this report, it has only been a few

short weeks since our last stated Meeting, and there is not agreat deal of new items on which to report.

The week of May 21 to May 25 saw the arrival of and tourof the Shriner’s Odyssey in support of the new Canada ShrineHospital in Montreal. Thanks to all the nobles who turned outto show the fez during the car’s trek through Nova Scotia andPrince Edward Island.

On May 31, I had the pleasure to attend the CumberlandCounty Shrine Club annual lobster dinner and auction inSpringhill, Nova Scotia. The hospitality shown by theCumberland County Shriner’s was A-1, and I can highly rec-ommend this event to al Shriners and their ladies. This year, the Fezeroo draw was held just prior to the dinner and it wasgreat to see that the first prize winner, Bea Spence, was fromthe Town of Springhill, and was able to be on hand to be rec-ognized. Thanks to Fezeroo Chair Noble Geoff Mondoux for

all of your efforts this year. For upcoming events, Philae Nobles should strongly con-

sider attending the Northeast Shrine Association Fall FieldDays to be hosted by Melha Shriners and held in Springfield,Massachusetts during August 21-24, 2014. Please check outthe improved website at www.nsa2014.org and see the addi-tional information posted in this edition of the Shriner’sNews.

I also look forward to representing Philae Shriners at theupcoming Imperial Shrine Sessions being held inMinneapolis, Minnesota, from July 6-10, 2014.

If any noble has any questions or concerns, please feel freeto contact me any time at the contact information as posted inthe Philae Directory.

Nobles mark the date, it is the scheduled date for the ded-

ication of the new Shriners’ Hospital regardless of the actual

move in date. The completion of the hospital is scheduled for

later in 2015. At present, construction is 35% complete and

on budget.

On the Capital Campaign 89% of the 130 million objec-

tive has been raised and Philae has attained more than 70% of

its commitment. With continued effort on the part of the clubs

and units we can certainly exceed our pledge so keep up the

good work.

By now the Cross Canada Odyssey has completed its trek

throughout the Atlantic Provinces with positive media cover-

age. Remember Nobles you can follow the progress at

www.exceptional care4kids.com. Hopefully, this will give

increasing awareness of the Shrine and its efforts in helping

children.

The annual hospital seminar was held May 13-15 with the

presence of Imperial Sir Jerry Gantt. The seminar proved to

be very informative with many visitors from the U.S. and

Canadian Shrine centers.

To date this year, the hospital has had an increase in day

treatments, clinic encounters and operations at SHC, as well

as increases in referrals. I anticipate a visit to the construction

site on my next Board Meeting in Montreal on June 19.
