Dear Adhesive and Sealant Industry Professional,

This April 28-30, the Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) invites you to participate in the first of its two annual conventions designed to connect you to educational tracks, innovative suppliers and community knowledge.

This year’s ASC Spring Convention and EXPO will be held April 28-30 at the Hyatt Grand Cypress in Orlando, FL, and I hope you will join us, especially after the winter most of us have experienced!

The ASC Spring Convention will include four Keynote speakers to include Jeff Dietrich (of Institute for Trend Research) who will present Forward Thinking: 2014 & Beyond, Dwight Tozer (of ExxonMobil) who will present how Abundant U.S. Shale Gas Supplier are Revitalizing the Petrochemical Industry and Martin Sweeney (of Celanese) who will present Health Product Declaration: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

We will include focused educational tracks featuring topics ranging from how medical adhesives and sealants are advancing our industry, the market opportunities found in China, Europe and Central and South America, as well as PSA in North America.

We have expanded our Advanced Technology Link Track of Speakers and will have between 8-10 sessions focused on where the industry’s research community is heading as it relates to commercializing new technologies.

Finally, our EXPO will grow to include 75 companies that are providing innovative solutions to your formulation strategies.

I hope to see you down in Orlando as you learn from your peers, leading suppliers and the advanced research community.

ASC is all about connecting you to innovation, knowledge and education ... this meeting will be one of its largest ever, and I hope you come down to learn more about how ASC is supporting your efforts to advance your company and your ability to meet the needs of your customers.

Best regards,

Rusty Thompson President & CEO, Evans Adhesive Corporation, Ltd. ASC Chairman (2013-2014)

TUESDAy OPENING GENERAL SESSION BREAKFAST & KEyNOTEForward Thinking: 2014 & BeyondJeff Dietrich, Senior Analyst, Institute for Trend ResearchLet’s be honest. Washington is the worst “reality show” on TV. The acting is terrible. The dialogue and pace are mind numbing. And nothing happens. Sadly, the show has been renewed for another season. Meanwhile, the US economy is in its 63rd month of growth. The stock market is setting records daily. Consumer spending is at record highs. Housing prices rose at double-digit rates the last two years. The Federal Reserve Board reiterated their intention to keep interest rates low at least through 2014. Europe is slowing emerging from its second recession in four years and Japan is recovering from its third recession in five years. The Middle East is a powder keg. Okay, the rollout of Affordable Health Care is making everyone sick. yet

by almost every key metrics the US economy is gaining momentum. For business’ sake, let’s look forward. On April 29, 2014, Dr. Jeff Dietrich, colleague of Alan Beaulieu, and Sr. Analyst with ITReconomics™, will break down what is behind the current macro-economic trends. Jeff will tell us where the US and global economies are headed in 2014 and 2015 and what will be the impact for ASC members. We will look at the good and the not-so-good sectors that impact ASC members and determine a course of action (management objectives) going forward.

Dwight Tozer is Vice President of the Adhesion Industry Business of ExxonMobil Chemical Company in Houston, Texas. Mr. Tozer joined the company in 1991 as a design engineer before working in a series of supervisory, corporate analyst and operations management roles in England, New Jersey, Texas and California. In 2004, Mr. Tozer was appointed technical manager at ExxonMobil’s Joliet Refinery in Illinois. He was named process manager of the Baytown Refinery in Texas in 2006. Mr. Tozer was then appointed Port Jerome Refinery manager in Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon, France in 2008. Mr. Tozer moved to Houston to serve as vice president of the global Adhesion Industry Business unit in July 2012. Mr. Tozer received a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and a master’s of business administration from Columbia University.

Marty Sweeney, CDT, LEED-AP, is the Market Development Manager-Americas, for Celanese Emulsion Polymers - Building Materials Segment. Marty has over 25 years of experience in the building materials industry, including leadership roles in Sales, Marketing and Corporate Sustainability. He has created and led an architectural specification program in a Fortune 500 company and has extensive experience developing successful green/sustainable marketing strategies in the building materials industry.

WEDNESDAy GENERAL BREAKFAST & KEyNOTEAbundant U.S. Shale Gas Supplies are Revitalizing the Petrochemical Industry Dwight Tozer, Vice President Adhesion Industry Business, ExxonMobil Chemical CompanyThe enormous increase in domestic natural gas production is spurring a manufacturing renaissance in the U.S., particularly for energy-intensive industries like the chemical and plastics businesses. ExxonMobil’s Outlook for Energy to 2040 indicates that the chemicals subsector of industrial energy demand will be the fastest-growing area over the next 25 years, with demand growing more than 50 percent, largely due to increased demand for plastics and other advanced products. An abundant, competitive natural gas supply in the U.S. provides a very strong foundation for increasing economic output, opening up new and valuable opportunities in many regions and sectors of the economy, including industrial sectors such as steel, auto manufacturing, and plastics. Expanded natural gas production is allowing chemical and plastics manufacturers to create jobs and increase sales to domestic and global markets. The shale gas advantage comes in the form of lower cost energy, increased supply security, creation of new jobs and enhanced global competiveness.

WEDNESDAy CLOSING SESSION & KEyNOTEHealth Product Declarations: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Martin Sweeney, Market Development Manager, CelaneseOne of the most controversial evolving issues in green/sustainable building & construction is the advent of chemical transparency requirements. Often times, this is driven by new credits being awarded in green building rating systems, such as LEED v.4 and, though these rating systems are often voluntary, products not meeting the requirements for these new credits can be (and often are) excluded from project specifications. Reporting tools, such as the Health Product Declaration (HPD), are sometimes being met with resistance and skepticism because these tools are perceived to only target specific ingredients while ignoring levels of exposure. Further, some manufacturer’s worry that cataloging ingredients will expose proprietary information to competition. Proponents say that chemical transparency is critical to the health and safety of construction workers and the occupants in the built environment. The objective of this presentation is not to advocate(for or against) reporting instruments like Health Product Declarations but, rather, to review the origins of these initiatives, understand how this can affect product specification and begin to consider what (if any) strategy is best for your company.

Pressure Sensitive Adhesives Short Course Program DescriptionThe Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (PSA) Short Course is co-located with ASC’s 2014 Spring Convention and Expo. This two-day short course is led by expert professionals in the field. This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the science behind formulating, testing and converting pressure-sensitive adhesives for specific market applications. All classes of pressure sensitive adhesives; hot melt, water based, solvent based and UV cure are reviewed with specific content on polymer types, additives, rheology, tack and shear characterization as well as release liners and backing support film.

Who Should Attend? This course should not be missed by those new to pressure sensitive adhesives and those wanting a more comprehensive understanding of all aspects of this technology. While a basic chemistry background is helpful, no advanced knowledge is required. This course is also open to technical, sales and marketing personnel employed by manufacturers, suppliers or end user companies. Lab and tech support personnel who formulate or convert pressure sensitive adhesives for specific applications will gain valuable insight into technology. Sales, product managers and marketing professionals would also benefit by increasing technical depth for tailored solutions to product requirements.

Upon completion, participants are invited to attend the ASC EXPO and reception.
